  1. Generally you use the latest version of the kernel extension and core extension, as of 9/14/2012, v2.2b is the latest kernel extension and v11a is the latest core extension. Google Translate can also be useful as well. It doesn't do a perfect job but it's enough for you to get the gist of it. The English versions are listed as ENU. Hope that helps! But this is the link you always want to use: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1299806.html Another tip is he dates the releases so the rule of them also is to look for the latest date on there, that indicates it's the newer version.
  2. I noticed it was smaller but I wasn't sure what he removed, but I thought that he had added stuff to advapi32.dll and kernel32.dll.
  3. Chrome is now working with the new kernel extension v2.2b, whatever you did to it is making it work properly again, even the version I had installed works. I know you mentioned before that problems would occur if you added some of the Vista functions into your kernel extension, but since you've been doing it lately and we haven't seem to run into issues, would it be possible to add SHGetFolderPathEx to shell32.dll and ordinal 345 (0x0159) to comctl32.dll and see what happens?
  4. I'm using Chrome version 23.0.1243.2. I just checked Iron which is version 20.0.1150.1, that doesn't work either. Neither versions worked since I installed extended kernel 2.2/2.2a. By the way, I think it's ntdll.dll which is causing the Japanese text to appear, as it's language is marked Japanese.
  5. I just installed the new kernel extension v2.2a, however we're getting the Japanese text in dialogs again. In Chrome, it seems to be coming up with a different error now but since I can't read Japanese, I'm thinking it says the instruction at 0x01cc66d5 referenced memory at 0x01587000, the memory couldn't be read. I'm not sure but I'm assuming that's what it is saying.
  6. @blackwingcat It should be en-US, I don't know exactly why it wouldn't be. Is there a way I can check for sure?
  7. Thanks tomasz86!!!! However, there is a slight problem with this kernel extension that didn't exist in v2.1b. When launching Chrome, I get an application error stating that the instruction at 0x7c5c54c3 referenced memory at 0x00000000, the memory couldn't be written. Dunno if that's fixable or not. I know Tomasz86 stated he had problems with Iron before so if I have to use just firefox, then I can. But if it's something simple, then I hope this info comes in handy for fixing the problem. Once again, I truly appreciate all your hard work, both blackwingcat and tomasz86!! You're both saviors to the true Windows 2000 fans!
  8. If you're looking for the English version, I think this is it: http://w2k.flxsrv.org/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?file=Windows2000-KB935839-v22-x86-ENU.exe Good luck.
  9. I do in a sense but it's a total migraine for me because I have to use a proxy to begin with because none of the ISPs around here like that site because they all get bad gateways but even the proxies that will go through, the download stops before it barely even gets off the ground. I always prefered the downloads to be on the blog because the proxy I used for it was always reliable. But, if you click on Windows Legacy Catalog, set it to WIndows 2000 and your language, then just use your browser's find tool and just type in 2.2, it should be the only one on the list.
  10. Where is the kernel extension available for download? I checked your blog but I don't see anything new except for v2.1b. Was there a problem with the newest release that it's not up there or is it on a separate download page?
  11. Oh right, now I remember! Stupid work really has me stressed out. Anyway, I haven't seen any old kernel32.dll/kernelXP.dll on my drive. However, since I've updated the extended kernel, the errors seem to have stopped. I haven't received them in a few days. I checked the assembly like you said and I didn't see anything in there either so maybe the problem took care of itself. Windows Media Center update: It seems to rely on MS .NET Framework v1.0.3705. I think I've gotten through just about all the hoops except it has an error saying it requires Windows XP Media Center Edition to run so now I'm trying to work around that. However, using fcwin and compatibility mode isn't working so I will be looking for other alternatives and see what I can come up with.
  12. I must've missed it then, I apologize. I will look back on previous posts. And wait, what DLLs am I looking for? I do use Dependency Walker quite a bit and that's how I usually come up with what I'm looking for. Is there anyway to start getting a few Vista programs working on Windows 2000, such as Vista's MSPaint? I imagine 7's will be a little more difficult but I didn't think Vista's version was much different than 2000/XP's.
  13. I would like to say that the updated v2.1b kernel extension works properly now, thank you @blackwingcat! Incidentally, I remember you said that adding NT6 kernel functions might/will cause problems. Can you give us an insight as to why this is?
  14. The new v2.1b kernel extension does NOT work, I install it but upon reboot, I get a c00021a stop error. I had to uninstall via recovery console to get back up and running.
  15. That's what I thought as it was brought up before, but why would it be popping up on my Win2k workstation randomly? It doesn't seem to have a program or anything that causes it to pop up, it just pops up, even when I would shut down. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms683146%28v=vs.85%29.aspx Normally the API is present in Windows 2003 Server and newer only.
  16. I will try that later on and see what happens! However, I've been getting another error that bugging me. I'm using the new v2.1a kernel extension with the NT6 msvcrt.dll, and I'm getting a critical stop error popping up randomly it seems. mscorsvw.exe - Entry Point Not Found The Procedure entry point FlsSetValue could not be located in dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. It did this with version 2.0o as well. I'm not sure if this is related to using the NT6 version of msvcrt or not but I thought I'd report it.
  17. @blackwingcat I meant that if you have WinZIP or WinRAR installed, you can open up the archive. For example, if I download the trial version of Office 2010, it's just a single file archive. If you right click on it, you can open it up with WinRAR and extract it to a directory of your choice. However, doing that makes the installation run into problems on Win2k. In the case of Office 2010, the usual error the pops up when launching setup.exe is "The Language of this installation package is not supported by your system."
  18. I can vouch that with v2.1 kernel extension that Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2007 will install and it seems to run fine as long as you set the the setup file and also setup.exe to Windows XP Service Pack 3 mode. Extracting it and then trying to install doesn't work, at least for me. I don't know if this was ever reported or not so I figured I'd bring it up now.
  19. This was never answered, so I will answer it. IF you can manage to get a later kernel extension for your language of Windows 2000, it will be possible to run these games. My mom is a spider solitaire freak and loves the new Vista version over the XP version. I've been running these games on my Windows 2000 system for a very long time now thanks to blc's kernel extension but since I have an English system and it usually has priority, that's probably why I'm able to run it and you're not. Hopefully you'll be able to get your version out if you haven't already since the post is a few months old. But I will say these games do run under Windows 2000 with the proper kernel extension.
  20. I think I know what the problem is, maybe. If nothing has changed and especially if you're not using the extended kernel, you need to at least Ez Install the KDW's Shell32.dll (use the latest 96m version to be safe). There's an ordinal 747 that it relies on that doesn't seem to have made it into the extended kernel's shell32.dll file. That's what I do though and MM2.6 works just fine. Edit: I guess I'm wrong because I don't have the KDW shell32.dll in there and it works just fine. But then @AlleyOop987 failed to mention whether the kernel extension is installed or not so we don't know the specs of his/her current operating environment. @blackwingcat What's the plan with KDW at the moment? Are you going to keep developing it or are you just going to put future edits into a kernel extension? It seems kind of silly to have two different things that pretty much do the same thing but then maybe there's a reason that I don't know about for doing it that way.
  21. I found the problem on this forum, seems using msiexec /regserver from a command prompt fixes this problem. Why this happened in the first place, I have no idea. The only patches I've been using is the kernel extension updates. It almost seems that Office 2010 is almost installable however it fails when trying to register some kind of service, seems like it was software protection or the like. I have no idea why this happened but the steps I took to make this partially work was setting the actual trial download from Microsoft to XP SP3 compatibility and then also setting setup.exe to XP SP3 compatibility. It almost completes but then that error shows up and the whole thing rolls back to the beginning. Just thought I'd report that as we're getting closer to Office 2010.
  22. I'm having an issue with the Windows Installer Service. It seems to have started when I upgraded kernel extension v2.0n3 to v2.0o. Now I can't use the service, it just produces the standard cannot access Windows Installer Service. When I go into the services panel and try starting it manually, I get an error saying "Could not start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer. Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress."
  23. Has anyone else noticed that when companies run out of new ideas, they just make their new product 'shiner' and possibly add a small feature and yet people have to quickly run out and buy it because it's 'new'? Do I need Windows 8? Absolutely not. Windows 2000, with the help of blackwingcat and tomasz86, still serves my computing needs perfectly. I do not need to pay an extra $100+ for stupid looking menus and a new ribbon interface. Seriously?? You call Windows 8 new...

They add some features and in case of Windows 8, they remove just as many useful features. BASTARDS.

The one that truly gets me is the fact that they removed the start menu and in it's place, they put a stupid full screen menu. Can anyone say....home screen? It's trying to look like a cell phone which I despise to begin with. They could leave Windows looking like Windows 98 for all I care, just as long as it was useful, stable, and did what you needed to do.

  24. So, I got a good deal on this remote and decided to buy it. However, the minimum requirements are a computer with Windows XP and up. So, I plug it in via USB and the drivers are installed successfully. However, Logitech goes so far to make sure you can't use this with an older version of Windows that it makes you install a program, which does seem to install just fine with extended kernel and all updates. (Haven't tried it on anything else). But now it goes so far that when you go to http://www.myharmony.com and login, it checks to make sure your browser and OS are at the minimum requirements. Furthermore it requires Silverlight 4.0 or higher. The only thing I was able to use to bypass this was Firefox 11 and set it to XP compatible mode. It seems to go through silverlight just fine...but as soon as it gets to 100%, the browser seems to freeze and that's it. You're forced to close Firefox. Now, this might be a coincidence but I haven't tried it yet, but I upgraded to silverlight 5.0 since BWC said it worked with the latest kernel extension, I also went to play something in wmp11, when I right clicked, I got a BSoD with a 0x0000001E code and the file seems to concern win32k.sys. So basically, is there a way to get this remote programmed on a non-Windows XP computer or will I have to find some other computer to use this with? It needs to be programmed using their web application and it seems that's the only way to do it.
  25. @tomasz86 I see! Well, my method would take care of the problem as well since XP's setup automatically takes care of that issue, at least if it has SP2 integrated into it, not sure about the earlier versions. Luckily I haven't had to reinstall my system lately but there were times I'd do it once a month. I use my entire hard drive partition for Windows so that would be 160GB but I have an external hard drive that I keep all my important data on and saved to so if I break my system, I'm not too worried because all my important stuff is in a safe location anyway.
