  1. Look in NTOSKRNL.exe, that should contain the stuff you need. Just make sure to always back it up first.
  2. I don't play the games myself, it's my mom who likes to use my computer and since she can't see well, she likes the Vista version the best because it's easier to see the cards. Just stick vista.emulation.dll into your system32 folder and then double click the program for installation and it will launch themselves. http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=19929826855029015287
  3. Try disabling 1394 as well, it's only a hunch but as I said, I've had problems with it and 98SE too.
  4. I have seen issues before when trying to run 98SE on a "prefab" (i.e. Compaq, Dell, HP) system that originally came from the manufacturer with XP installed. I have no explanation for the issues, other than maybe the PC manufacturers make small tweaks to the systems that make them unstable under 9x. These issues can manifest themselves even when all of the necessary drivers can be found for the hardware. A couple of examples; a friend of mine had a similar Compaq that I never was able to get 98SE to run stably on, and I once tried to set up 98SE on a Dell Dimension 2400 that had an Intel 865 Chipset motherboard (a chipset fully supported for 98SE and one that works perfectly under most circumstances) that never seemed to run smoothly. The best thing you can do is choose a motherboard that has 9x drivers and build a system from scratch; but I know in some cases this is not possible... Good luck... My laptop that I mentioned above supports your statement. It doesn't support Windows 98SE as stable as it should. The ACPI is completely unsupported with the laptop and the firewire also causes problems with it. Even though I have no firewire devices, the fact that this board supports it causes problems so I keep the device disabled. The weird this is that Windows 98 right out of the box has a driver for it, but installing it causes the computer to crash. As you said, I think some computers are just tweaked enough so that Windows 98 or any 9x products can be used successfully. All I can say is try what I mentioned above with the setup switches and report back your findings.
  5. This computer should run Windows 98 without much problem. Have you tried installing a less than 137GB hard drive in the computer and installing Windows 98 to see what happens? Some computers when I've ran setup, I had to use to /p i command, this is true for my HP Compaq NX9100 laptop, I believe that was the model number. Either way, it did some wacky things when I didn't. It might not be the solution but at least it's one more thing you could try, especially if you have an extra hard drive laying around.
  6. Also, could you look at the Spider Solitare one as well? It's the XP port of the Vista version and it worked great up until a few kernel updates as well. It's slightly broken at the end when you try to start a new game, it crashes instead. Double Post only because I don't have enough room to upload the file in the same reply.
  7. Sure buddy, here you go. I don't see any problems with it but maybe you can find something I can't see? Also, could you look at the Spider Solitare one as well? It's the XP port of the Vista version and it worked great up until a few kernel updates as well. It's slightly broken at the end when you try to start a new game, it crashes instead.
  8. I just installed Extended Kernel v2.4d6G, works good! No problems with dual monitor support now. Although something that may be related is for a few releases now, AVG 9 Free's resident shield hasn't been working. My laptop isn't quite as updated as my main computer here and it appears to work just fine with the latest AVG updates in place, but on here, the resident scanner and email plugin complain that avgxch32.dll cannot be installed or loaded. Could this be related to the extended kernel at all?
  9. Windows 95/98/Me only utilizes one processor core, sadly enough. Nobody has ever found a way around that to my knowledge. The NT line however does utilize more than one core, even Windows NT 4 I believe does that. But 9x you're limited to just one.
  10. Try www.oldversion.com, they have all that kind of stuff that you need. It should be on there. I know, it's VERY hard to find online now as I've tried myself.
  11. There exists no written documentation on UURollup (especially the daily releases). You can use software like KDiff3 to compare different releases. Just unpack them and compare the two folders. In case of the newest daily release, I just updated all the BlackWingCat's files to the newest versions and disabled the previously added Cryptographic Service (as he did in his kernel), and also updated the HOSTS file and Process Explorer. There's a bit of a problem with it because both your UURollup and Blackwingcat's latest kernel update causes me to lose my dual monitor configuration. Removing the pack restores the capability. I already posted this problem in his thread though so I'm still waiting for his response.
  12. BlackWingCat, after installing your Kernel Extension 2.4da, I lose my dual monitor capabilities. No matter which driver I try, I cannot reenable them until I remove the pack and go back to the last one that was installed which I think was just 2.4d2 or 3. Any reasoning for this? Edit: I use an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT PCIEx16
  13. My Pentium 4 2GHz Windows 98 machine boots and runs a heck of a lot faster than my main Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Windows 2000 machine. Also, the fact Windows 98 does mostly what I need it to do is a good reason for me to use it.
  14. Never run automatic updates after doing unofficial updates, they may break your installation. That's why automatic updates are disabled after installing the unofficial ones. What kind of updates are available that WU is listing?
  15. It appears to require Microsoft Net Framework 4, which Tomasz86 rolled into his all in one package and I currently have installed. However, the program keeps telling me that I need to install Net Framework and it will not allow me to advance past it. I notice I can open it with WinRAR but alas, it just has 'garbage' files contained which are probably similar to disk images. It requires Windows XP and using KDW compatibility allows me to try and install but once it hits the second screen, it just closes itself out. This probably isn't a big issue as the Garmin works without registering it and all that jazz, but in order to have the lifetime map updates, you need to install that program that I can see. Has anyone attempted this on Windows 2000 yet?
  16. I'm almost 98% sure your computer uses AwardBIOS. This screenshot is normal as my main computer shows almost the same exact information except it's relevant to my computer. However, once it says verifying DMI pool data, the computer should hand off control to the operating system, whichever one is on there. If it says to insert a disk, or non-system disk error, or no operating system found, then that means one of two things. Either your hard disk is bad which is unlikely, or there is no operating system presently installed. However, we need a bit more information as to what you're actually asking us. Maybe you're not familiar with Award BIOS so that's why you're not sure why that screen pops up in the first screenshot. I can assure you that it's normal as I'm a bit of an Award enthusiast and prefer to buy PC's or motherboards that use Award over AMI.
  17. Blackwingcat could possibly answer this as that was the firstish thing he found a way around when he created his Kernel Extension (v2) for Windows 2000, and that was to stop the Win32 errors from happening.
  18. Google Chrome is a tad fussy in my experience. Try doing %appdata% in an explorer address bar and removing all things Chrome related, it might have left fragments behind in there which is causing the installer to think a newer version is installed.
  19. Old Version . com is a great site for all sorts of old things, but one thing I noticed is some applications download as a php file for some odd reason. So therefor what I do is I add quotations and add the exe extension. For example, "Chrome.exe" will automatically save it as exe and not the weird php file. I use Windows 98 SE so I use the site on a somewhat daily basis.
  20. Personally, I can't even stand the word 'app' as to me it's not even a word. It bothered me how Windows 8 started using that term a bit more but after seeing screenshots of the start menu in Windows 10, changing the text all programs to all apps just about clinched it for me. I won't buy it if they don't change that. Why? Because app might be okay for the average person to use, but to me it comes off as unprofessional. It's funny because I saw the abbreviation tossed around the boards in posts way before the term became popular and it was even in Windows as an 'appdata' folder. But that didn't bother me so much. But all of a sudden the smartphone and tablet industry became popular and everything on there is an 'app', so why does that make it so on a PC as well? To me it's two different things. If I were to define what I consider an app, it would be a little utility that does something stupid or maybe something that connects to your local news station and gives you weather and news updates. But something like Microsoft Office or even something like a game found on a CD-ROM is a bit more sophisticated than being an 'app', those I consider programs. So to me, app =/= program. Two different things as far as I can see. Anyway, just my two cents.
  21. Microsoft must've known that Windows XP was widely accepted and used by the world as I don't remember Microsoft doing something like this before, as to put a nag popup in their update repertoire, but correct me if I'm wrong. Even Windows 2000 didn't get a popup like that since its support ended July of 2010 and I just kept right along using it up to this day. Microsoft would literally have to force a OS self destruction update to install before I stop using it.
  22. I'm trying to keep an open mind about Windows 9 as Windows 8 closed it completely. However, I'm not expecting myself to like it much if it continues going south from PC land and more towards tablet country. Maybe that's why I still use Windows 98. However, if they don't get rid of those butt-ugly metro blocks from the start menu, that will be enough right then and there to turn me off the OS. MS to me has just been all about focusing on eye candy instead of real functionality. But that's only my two cents.
  23. Blackwingcat, I installed the latest extended kernel update (v24c) and it seems to clash with Outlook 2003 in regards of it never retaining your POP3 email password.
  24. Now I'm being plagued with can't connect errors. This is total BS. Not even 5.5 or even the newer one tomasz86 created 6.3.25??? All it says is can't connect. Now my 3.5 version won't work even though it did last night when my laptop version took a crap. We need to explore ways to make something work out.
  25. My installation is only about a month old, so it's not been that long. I could try it out on my Windows 98 laptop and see what happens with Skype. This whole deal is ridiculous because it's just a ploy to get everyone to upgrade. So many times companies that retire older software says that the newer stuff gives you 'a better experience'. I seldom see that as the truth, more times than not it's just a way to get people to buy new stuff.
