Some of us don't need or want the protection. Same reason why I don't run an anti-virus, nor a firewall, nor an anti-spyware, nor any other software or hardware that's meant to "protect me".

Well, I'm not quite sure if there's much of a need or a demand for integrating only IE 7 since nLite does a good job of doing so. I do appreciate all your support and I've got some new things planned for 2007.

I believe the ALC800 and the ALC880 are essentially the same. As for a dedicated sound card, if that's what it really takes to solve the problem, then so be it. I have no qualms with doing so. Either way, I'd still like to drill down to the core issue and figure out exactly WHY this happens.

Well, consider it more like "stretching" the topic since the problems he has could be related to his router.

I put my router and modem under heavy use daily, I seed multi-GB torrents and I'm constantly downloading multi-GB torrents. I easily hit double digit GB download bandwidth usage, usually downloading up to 25 torrents simultaneously with uTorrent set to a 100 connections per torrent and 1000 total connection limit. Not to mention that I have the half-open connections patch applied to my windows set to unlimited. So I'm fairly certain that my router is under heavy use... oh and lest I forget, my wife also runs through the router under heavy use through the wireless since she likes to leave her laptop on for days on end to download a multitude of things through Shareaza. Perhaps it's the other way around, maybe I got lucky.

Right-click in a blank area (the white part) of the window and choose View -> Tiles or View -> Icons.

I think you've just been unlucky. The most stable router I have seen to date (in the consumer ones) is indeed the WRT54G using the Thibor modified firmware. I personally have a WRT54GS which is even more stable. Version 5 of the WRT54G was a complete disaster. From what I hear, the WRT54GL, a re-launch of the pre-V5 WRT54G is actually quite good as well since they went back to a linux based OS (hence the L).

Obviously, the people who've come to know me on this forum know that I am quite the hardware enthusiast and I well proficient both with hardware and software. So please, spare me the grief of responses such as "On-board audio sux!" or "Update your drivers!". Those kinds of answers are not quite what I'm looking for. First, let me describe some contextual information. Power is clean and filthered through a Voltage Regulator before arriving to my Antec SP-350 which is very very stable and cool. The rest of my computer is cool as well. My cpu features a Zalman CNPS9500 and Arctic Silver 5. My video card also features a Zalman VF900-Cu with Arctic Silver 5. My P180 case has a 120mm intake fan, a 80mm intake fan and three 120mm exhaust fans. So there are no voltage or heat related problems whatsoever. With my Pentium D 930, 2GB of OCZ ram and my dual raptors in RAID 0 for Windows, it's clear that I don't have a performance issue. The problem. Anything that is active audio (meaning more then the windows ding) such as playing music, watching a movie or playing a game will have stuttering audio at random intervals (less then 60 seconds apart) for the duration of a quarter of a second and ONLY (this is the crucial part) WHILE simultaneously having a high volume of network traffic. High volume of network traffic being anything from downloading a single file at high speed to multiple simultaneous torrent downloads. Also, during the stuttering, everything stops. Meaning, the screen will stop updating itself (GUIs freeze, video freezes), the mouse will freeze and the keyboard will stop responding. As soon as the stuttering stops, everything goes back to normal. My motherboard is a Foxconn 945G7MA-8EKRS2. My audio is an on-board Realtek ALC800. My network card is a dedicated 3Com 3C905C-TX, the on-board network card is disabled. The network card is on IRQ 17. The on-board audio is on IRQ 16. IRQ 17 is not shared (according to device manager). IRQ 16 is shared between the audio, the ICH7 SMBus controller, a ICH7 USB Host Controller, the PCI-Express port and the video card. Audio hardware acceleration is set to Full. I'd like to identify what the REAL and ROOT cause of the issue is. Is it a IRQ conflict? Is there a race condition in the PCI bus? Is it simply too much demand for the on-board audio controller? Thanks.

If you want to build a serious computer (seeing as you're spend top dollar) you'll want to build it on a serious motherboard. I highly recommend the Asus Striker Extreme. You won't find a better motherboard on the current market then this one.

****. Some of you have incredible upload speeds.

I think a better option would be something along the lines: "Consistently apply the following font across the Windows UI:" [font list] So that way, if people like the idea of having a single font across Vista but don't like Segoe UI could still use the tweak to apply another font.
-
The Windows UI of WinRAR will allow you to set the temporary path.
-
That will install only the client. To allow connections to the XP Home machines, you'd have to modify the terminal services DLL. It would involve something similar to the "hack" that replaces the XP Pro terminal services DLL with the one from Server 2003 to allow simultaneous console and remote desktop sessions.

I'm surprised no one has asked this yet. What make and model is your router?
-
UAC. Enough said.
-
Looks like you guys aren't the only ones with problems: http://www.virtualtravelog.net/entries/200..._tolerance.html I think you should change your routers to a newer WRT54G.
-
Yup, that's exactly it.
-
Use NetPing.
-
Nah, WAY too slow for an OC3. Looks like FiOS or such.Well, it could be SHARED OC3.
-
Yea, 20Mbit is indeed the fastest Videotron offers BUT beware, 20Mbit does not offer unlimited bandwidth, there is a bandwidth cap and NO limit as to how much they can charge per extra GB. That's why I'm staying with Extreme 10Mbit, unlimited bandwidth. Wow. OC3?

And since .NET 3.0 is really new stuff (WPF/WCF, etc) on top of the old v2.0 framework, you really have both. So one only needs to install v1.1 if one has old .NET apps that require it. Can someone tell me how interoperable are .NET frameworks with .NET applications? ie: 3.0 framework supports 3.0 & 2.0 apps, 2.0 supports 2.0 only, etc...

What kind of motherboard? Is an ATX or microATX motherboard?

In case you didn't notice, this is a community forum, not a You-paid-for-support forum. I think you should reconsider the method you're approaching the issue if you want some of the more senior and skilled members in the community to help you.
