  1. I don't believe that Microsoft officially supports WMP11 on Windows Server 2003.
  2. Update the router's firmware to the latest revision, reset factory defaults, and do a cold-reboot. See how that goes, if you're still having problems, we'll see what we can do to help you identify them.
  3. I just thought it could be interesting if we compared internet connections. If you want to post your speed in this thread, please post using http://www.speedtest.net/ and copy-pasting the forum link. Thanks.
  4. Got a list of the hardware that you're going to be putting inside it?
  5. If you're going to go with an inexpensive case, make sure you swap out any power supply that comes with it. Get yourself a reliable Antec power supply (or another reliable brand). A case is just metal. So it really doesn't matter what you get, it's a question of taste as long as you make sure that if you don't get a case that comes standard with a reliable power supply, you change it for one of a reliable manufacturer.
  6. Well sure, manufacturers can't get everything manufactured from scratch. Some things come pre-built and are assembled. My caution stems from something along this idea: OCZ picks up some chips from Infineon. OCZ takes the best ones as sell them as their Platinum line. The ones that don't qualify but are still good, get packaged up as their Value line. When you buy an OCZ Platinum or an OCZ Value, you know what you're getting. Now let's use company X, let's call them SuperClockers. Say SuperClockers buys OCZ's Value ram at DDR2 533MHz and find it will sustain 667MHz with a bit of a voltage boost. Well SuperClockers takes OCZ's Value ram and rebadges as their SuperClockers SuperRAM 667MHz with new voltages for a new profit. What do you think you'd end up with by buy their SuperRAM? Not all companies are dishonest like that, but it's hard for the average person to know if they are or not. Figuring out what you bought by analyzing each of the individual chips can be complicated and time consuming. Buying from a trusted company, you know you don't have to worry.
  7. Active Undelete works well too.
  8. Quite possibly, but you know, when I buy a Toyota, I like to buy a Toyota from Toyota. Then I'm sure I get a Toyota. If I buy a car under a different brand name which is supposed to be a Toyota under the badge, I still can't prove without doubt or uncertainty that I bought a Toyota. I value quality above all else, including price.
  9. Don't get a recertified drive. Buy a new one.
  10. Yes, that may well be... ... but that is simply not the case. A quick search on google will show just how many different types of IDE cards people have problems with when it comes to DVD writers because ATAPI is not properly supported. The only chip that I have seen repeatidely identified as working without any issues and, by the way, was the only thing that worked with my Pioneers, are IDE controllers based on the ITE 8112. There also a very large thread on cdfreaks which shows in great detail how much of a problem it can be.
  11. You live in the US, why would you order from anywhere else but Newegg? You lucky son of ...
  12. Run a manufacturer's diagnostic on your 120GB Maxtor and let me know how it turns out.
  13. BEWARE! Most IDE expansion cards do NOT properly support ATAPI (needed for optical drives). I even ordered a Promise Ultra133 card at almost $100 (with taxes) and ended up having to return it. Very very few IDE cards properly support optical drives.
  14. If it's not one of the big brands (OCZ, Corsair, Kingston), I don't trust them.
  15. I can't quite put my finger on what causes that. Does anyone have any idea?
  16. actually your WD drive is dying... And it's not the platters wearing out, it's the circuitry. There's no proof of that. @cumminbk: Try changing the IDE cable with a brand new 80-wire IDE cable. Run manufacturer's diagnostics on BOTH drives, one at a time with only one drive plugged in at a time. See what that gives you.
  17. I suppose like all things in the world, things aren't perfect. Same reason you can go into your BIOS and force your USB 2.0 ports to function as USB 1.1. Some manufacturers don't respect standards and ajustments have to be made to increase compatiblity.
  18. Indeed, I'm well versed in C# as well as SQL Server 2005. I'd love to contribute as well if you need the help.
  19. I was thinking of reworking WUD into a distributed model. Instead of downloading directly updates directly from Microsoft, I was considering making each WUD client work with an internal bit torrent client. This could also work with your idea. Each download client is a bittorrent client internally, downloading the updates from all other clients while distributing them simultaneous to all other clients, all via bit torrent protocols.
  20. Do us a favor. Remove all the double, triple and quadruple spacing between each line in your post, as is, it's very hard to read. Personally, I'd say it's worth about $700 CAD.
  21. Source: http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/how...all_tshoot.html Source: http://www.wdc.com/en/library/sata/2779-001006.pdfAgain, you do not need to set a jumper on Serial ATA drives.
  22. That's exactly my point, you don't need to set a jumper. You just plug it in, regardless of what revision of Serial ATA it is. The motherboard and hard drive will automatically adjust to each other. You ever set a jumper on a USB 2.0 device because it was a USB 1.1 port? Nope. Neither do you have to with Serial ATA hard drives. Yes.
  23. I'm curious to what development languages and/or database systems you work with?

    ipx ?

Yes, but if you read more into it: The novell client will support NCP, not IPX.
  25. Where is the commercial viability with WUD, WMP11 Integrator, Compression Bin and XPreview? .NET allows me to code those utilities to share with the community for free taking less of my time so that I can spend more time with my wife and my son. My revenue is generated almost entirely through computer sales, maintenance and repair. Most of the time, I made my wage by doing on-site repairs for residential customers, sometimes I get to sell hardware and often I re-install windows. All of which is uninfluenced by programming. To come back with a statement like that is proof that you simply have no solid evidence to refute with and have giving up with unrelated pseudoslander.
