Most popular servers such SMTP, HTTP and POP are blocked by ISPs on standard ports. As for your shareaza problem, are you behind a router?

1) 460Kbps is probably the PHYSICAL connection to your phone's maximum speed, which sounds like the theoretical limit of USB 2.0. 2) You ARE getting your maximum download speed as per your download test. 60Kilobits per second DOES equal 7 Kilobytes per second. (1 Byte = 8 Bits)

Make sure you don't confuse the Pagefile with a browser's Cache. Browser cache serves to keep a copy of recently visited webpages on your computer to speed up browsing. A good size for browser cache is about 25MB. The pagefile serves to give extra memory to programs when your computer runs out.

Make sure the storage harddrive that has the new windows on it is Master if it's IDE, or on the SATA1 port if it's SATA. The problem you are having IS because of the BIOS boot order, and nothing more. How do I know that? Simple... with only the new drive, which you installed a fresh copy of window on, plugged in, everything is okay. As soon as you plug in the second hard drive, bam, NTLDR error. If the BIOS tries to boot a NTFS partition that does not have a windows on it, you will receive an NTLDR error. By plugging in the second drive, the BIOS boot order automatically moves around because there's a new drive to account for. So when the computer boots, the BIOS checks the first drive it finds, finds an active partition which happens to be on the second drive, and tries to boot it. Being an NTFS partition but no having a windows on it, the NTLDR error is thrown. The way to fix it is to move around the physical order of the drive connections on the motherboard. Swap Master/Slave relationships, change IDE port orders or SATA ports orders... OR ... go into your bios, set your hard drives to boot first, but here's the important part: Change the boot order of the HARD DRIVES themselves. Most modern bioses have TWO boot sections. One of the order of the boot devices by type (FLOPPY -> CDROM -> HDD) and a second section to change the boot order of the devices of a certain type (LG -> PIONEER ... OR ... WESTERN 250 -> WESTERN 320). And think with this information in hand and a bit of toying around, you should be able to get things back in order.

How to make Windows Server 2003 Genuine ?
jcarle replied to duy007vn's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I think cluberti already covered that, thanks. -
That was never a router's original purpose. And personally, I think router incorporated firewalls are junk. That goes without mentioning that I think firewalls are useless in general.
-
Don't all modern routers support NAT? Or at least routing?

I always get the Sony tubes confused with the Mitsubishi ones. Both are very very nice screens.
-
Mitsubishi tubes, no?

Now c'mon ripken, there ain't anyone is this thread who's stubborn enough to argue, now is there? -

source for PC toolbox/repair case/technician's case?
jcarle replied to Alpaca Portrait's topic in General Discussion
I don't have one but I don't think it would work. I'm looking for something where everything has its specific place inside the case. In the briefcase example the tools would be inside the lid all held in place, and the bottom would be sectioned off into different compartments. The rubbermaid toolbox... you mean something like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/20-Rubbermaid-Toolbox_...VQQcmdZViewItem Yep. Mine's a tad different, but I bought mine almost 10 years ago. The plastic is perfect for a computer related setting. -
Best thing to do, don't log in to your console session. AFAIK, you cannot login to the console session and prevent it from locking because the "screen" can only be shown to one user at a time, locally or remotely. Instead, I think you should try to find a way to control windows media player remotely.

It's an interesting idea, but I refuse to support blu-ray unless one day i absolutely have to. Why? Because it's Sony, and Sony decided to be stubborn with their format, just like they did with BetaMax. Look at the stupid DVD-R / DVD+R mess we have now, Sony just made it worse.

Looking for feedback on Windows Media Player 11 Integrator
jcarle replied to jcarle's topic in jcarle's Utilities
Are you integrating a beta version of WMP11? -
Then why is it that every single processor completes in the exact same time as their single cored equivalent? Not to mention that the quad core processor completes in the exact same time as the dual core version? That's not what I call multi-threaded. LAME Benchmarks
-
I think the bigger problem at the moment, as has been demonstrated by many benchmarks, is that there is a serious lack of true multi-threaded software. The worse part is that the software that could benefit the most from the extra crunching power is solely single threaded. Best examples I can think of are LAME MP3 encoding and XviD Video encoding.

You need to use a router or make a computer a router.

I'll take a look.

In quebec, anything is possible. Flood, snow cave-in, rabid dogs, who knows... That's why I want to bring the back up somewhere like a storage facility, or lock box, or something similar away for safekeeping. By the way, I thought I should mention, if it helps with ideas, the data back up will be incremental. So if 1TB has already been backed up and 3TB remain, that 1TB does not need to be backed up again. (Except maybe for a duplicate of the backup.) Something else I'm wondering about is how sensitive the backup media is, what kind of life expenctancy there is. Example, optical media is sensitive to heat and last about 7 years. Floppy discs are sensitive to heat and (electro)magnetism and last varying time frames depending on the quality. What's the scenario with tape backup? Or other kinds of data backup?

Windows Update takes forever to load the update list
jcarle replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Windows XP
Is your hard drive running full tilt while waiting? If it is, I suggest you try running a defrag. I've seen fragmentation be the cause of a slow windows update at times. -
Wouldn't be much of a backup in case of a neighbourhood flood, eh?

What has been modified in the setup? Just the images? Does this occur with any other setup?
