  1. They seem to have lost all touch with reality: Who knows, maybe that's all they can see with their hololenses: Perhaps if all this was not a facade to bring about their evil global data mining and spying scheme, it'd be funny how pathetic all those guys look...
  2. Curl and rtmpdump (for media streams) also support resuming partial downloads so all three are suitable candidates I guess. You'd need too kill them with your script as a substitute to pause however.
  3. Washing machines have got wifi nowadays. Hopefully they don't run on Windows 10 otherwise Microsoft will surely know that I don't wash my socks and underwear often enough.
  4. On my Win7 Home Premium x64 laptop I found files and registry entries related/belonging to Microsoft Security Essentials, which I wanted to wipe off completely, I could not take ownership of, no matter what but perhaps I did something wrong/uncompletely, only PC Hunter, which appears to be able to bypass any privilege level, finally allowed me to clean all traces of it completely.
  5. There is also STDUViewer, Sigil and FBReader for those that I can use on Win ME and see no reason why they couldn't work on Win 10, perhaps your epub file is corrupted or actually another file type.
  6. There is no mystery I think, this is how media streaming seems to work on many sites now, you get an initial burst at high speed which gives you a small buffer of data and then you get just about enough to maintain that buffer and most of the file is downloaded at not much more speed than the streaming media playback data rate. And I guess things may get worst with downloader s if they are identified as such. I am however using happily and almost exclusively youtube-dl (and helper programs rtmpdump and fribidi it uses automatically if it needs) those days for downloading media streams from a large variety of sites, it doesn't speed things up but if it starts it always completes for me.
  7. It's probably Intel's Anti-Theft technology built into i3, i5 and i7 CPUs you've read about..
  8. I use FileBox eXtender mostly for its stay on top button but it does what you want too I think. Not sure if the current version still support 98/Me though .
  9. Digging in my dll dump, it seems there are two versions of ctl3d32.dll 2.31.0.0, one is for 9x and the other is for NT. Try using the right one. 9x version has size of 26,624 bytes. NT version has size of 27,136 bytes.
  10. I happily use HFS (HTTP File Server) and web browsers to exchange files between machines (ME & 7) on my home network.
  11. Every system file has two hard links, one of which is in the sxs folder. If you manually replace a system file in the system dirs, you'll have two different files instead of two hard links for that file. If you run repair/sfc, Windows will restore the original in the sys dirs by recreating a hard link to the original in sxs. In fact, if I am not mistaken, Windows 7 is installed from the sxs folder in the second phase of install, first everything is copied from the install media to the sxs folder and then every file is projected (official terminology) as hard link to its location in the relevant system folder. And when you install official updates, again correct me if i am wrong, files are first copied to sxs and then projected to their locations in the system dirs as hard links, eg, delete hard link to original file and then create hard link to new one, so that the sxs folder is both an install and backup folder.
  12. Why restricting yourself to Award BIOS? If you wouldn't I'd recommend the A8V Deluxe I am using for Athlon 64 CPU. It's got full 98-ME driver support and plays nice with 512MB 7xxx nVidia cards (at least XFX 7800 GS and XFX 7950 GT). Only caveat is that with RAM above 3GB you get (sometimes, often or always, depending on BIOS version) "USB undercurrent" issues preventing it from booting. And capacitors tends to blow after a while but this is a plague that affects all mobos of that era I guess.
  13. Comparing the adoption rate of an OS that is offered as a free in-place automated update with OSes that required purchase + install or purchase of a new system is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, don't you think? Might be an unprecedented fist month adoption but considering that nearly everybody that has 7 or 8 could have 10 now by just clicking yes on a dialog, it's really abysmally poor IMO.
  14. You need to buy (and install with option /M if I remember correctly) rloew's RAM patch for using a 512MB graphic card, it won't work without it. After that you need to set an adequate amount of AGP aperture in BIOS otherwise it won't boot either. 64 or 128MB should do. In my experience 256MB or above don't work. As I understand it (perhaps wrongly) AGP aperture is a RAM substitute for video memory so the more memory there is on the graphic card the less aperture should be needed..
  15. 16B1E0 55 -> C3 means go to address 16B1E0 and replace 55 by C3.
  16. Free EnTech tools: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm http://www.entechtaiwan.com/lib/softmccs.shtm
  17. Dunno which version of imagehlp.dll you have in Win98, but Dolphin 3 and 3.5 load fine for me with stock imagehlp.dll on WinME (v5.0.2178.1).
  18. The kind of data gathering and individual profiling of the world online population the tech giants are able to pull is the dream of a dictatorship military/intelligence apparatus. That is why what is happening in this respect is so incredibly dangerous . Those who merely complain indignantly about their personal data being sold for commercial purpose such as targeted ad delivery are completely missing the point of what is really at stake IMO. And I think there are no good or bad hands for holding such data. The fact that such data is being harvested and stored is bad per se, no matter who holds it.
  19. I currently use: ZoomPlayer 10 (current latest version) + LavFilter 0.65.0.47-git (current latest nighthly build) PotPlayer 1.6.55857.0 (current latest beta) KMPlayer 3.9.1.138 with bundled LavFilter 0.65 (current latest version) QMPlay2 15.08.12 (current latest version), very nice for searching and playing youtube videos without the huge flash cpu overhead. All current builds of console players FFPlay and MPlayer also work here. Apart from ZoomPlayer, all require at least KernelEx, some won't run without the KernelEx update by jumper and/or KexStub with appropriate definitions also by jumper.
  20. Well of course my friend, that's how the game is played. Did you really expect otherwise come to this point? Yes, IMO especially because even if you manage to block every spyware feature, your IP will then be recorded in the worst category, the category of those who have got "something to hide"... potential criminal or terrorist...
  21. The option button becomes grayed out and unusable if I want to save as another format on Win Me with KernelEx enabled. Not that I care too much about FSViewer however as I am an XnView user and fanboy. XnView also requires Kernelex since a little while but no features are broken apparently.
  22. Looks like the Windows 10 uptake is not fast enough, (or a complete flop), so they now bring the best (newspeak) of 10 to 7 and 8: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3068708 Looks to me like all they wanted with 10 is putting those tracking services in people's computers.
  23. And which Unicode font is it going to choose? It would need to parse all installed fonts to select one that has got a corresponding unicode plane. AFAIK (I might be wrong) no text editor does this regardless of OS. The closest to this is probably Babelpad adequately configured in composite font mode. I would not know anything about the rest as i don't use IME but I suspect that if you select the right codepage (or some UTF flavor) in Akelpad it might work OK.
  24. Akelpad supports UTF-7, UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-32 as well as a large variety of ANSI encodings. Encoding options in the open/save dialog or by right-clicking the encoding field in the status bar.
