  1. Updated to latest version 27/10/2009 Rev.3119 by clsid
  2. Problem solved. This what you shouldn't do (N.B. I did all of these things at once, so I'm not sure which one REALLY did the trick): 1. Do not remove System Restore; 2. Do not use the same Username as computer name or registered name 3. Do not add recent updates for Windows Media Player; I think -X- is on to something very big HERE Just made a new install on my PC and am using it to write this.
  3. OK, I take it back. I've been doing a few more experiments and I think I'm very near to the goal. Things are looking nice so far. I will post the results in the next few days.
  4. Hi, I stumbled across an old PC which had XP Pro SP1 installed, and in the log files I found a file stating that SP1 was installed from D:\BuNcHofNuMbErSandLeTtErS\update.exe -q /Z -ER I'm interested in these switches; I suppose q can only mean one thing, I found /Z to be the same as /x, but additionally restarts the computer. What does -ER stand for? Google search did not help at all. Thank you in advance.
  5. If you run IE8 from Command Prompt with /? switch, you will see the following screen. Choose the switches you need. Cheers
  6. I've attached the necessary files with my last experiment: I thought I'd manage to trick the install by adding Autologon to my user name, so everything would go in order. The result was a 1 second error "The system could not log you in" and then the "Applying your personal settings" screen. This screen hangs and nothing else happens. So, I've discovered the solution to this problem (read closely): I'm dropping my user name and will install using the built-in Administrator account, which offers loads of possibilities, including the COPY option from RunOnce.
  7. I use KB952069v2 and KB968816 and they integrate just fine. I think the reason why it's working is that I also integrate wmfdist11.exe (Windows Media Format Runtime 11) on top of WMP9 (present on the XP CD) PRIOR to these 2 updates. The result is a Windows Media Player 9 that plays .wmv and .wma files encoded with WMP11 codecs including VC-1. Try it and see if it also works for you.
  8. 5eraph, I only have three letters for you: W O W !!!
  9. Two options: 1. either the burning of the files was bad (speed or virus in the .exe) 2. or DVD is damaged and not readable
  10. Well, if you go to its official webpage, you will see that a new version is being released every few days, since the are 3-4 people working on newer and more advanced builds; however, I only release the ones by clsid, and I try to have new versions of the add-on at least twice a month. Surely you will understand that I can't devote my time completely to this forum; everything we do here is on voluntary basis. Additionally, I'm out of town and cannot use the files and programs needed to create the add-on, so... until Monday. If you really need the latest version right now, there are ways to make it yourself; just use search. Cheers
  11. Look at THIS, post #6.
  12. I've decided not to let this post die slowly, as I think it needs all the attention it can get, considering the fact a different nLite users report it. I'll post some results later today of what I've been trying (unsuccessfully) so not everybody goes through the same procedure every time. Edit: here they are: 1: .NET Framework-switched from 1.1SP1 to 2.0SP2. I used 2 add-on versions which I made with Silent .NET Maker: the first also included KB958481, and the second KB958481 and the latest KB974417. Didn't make any changes; mind you, it worked well up to a week ago. .NET Framework was removed from the Windows CD. 2: the latest updates and hotfixes from MS (October 2009): KB975467, KB974571, KB975254, KB974112, KB975025, KB969059, KB958869, KB971486. No changes with or without them.
  13. OK, meanwhile I installed Windows Desktop Search 4.0 and restored some of the functions, but not the search companion option. It's, I'm afraid, the same nuisance as before, with endless indexing and sucking RAM and CPU time with 4-5 processes. Can anybody tell me the basic files the old Windows search uses so I can look them up, add them or simply check versions? Thank you
  14. Well, if you say so... it's just a number like that has never appeared in any of my files produced by nLite. This is my last one, from 2 days ago: [Main] Env = 1.4.9.1 - 2.0.50727.3603.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - English (United States)
  15. I agree with ccl0; if they are easier to read, you will get more suggestion and help. My suggestion is about SATA drivers: try to use only the ones you need; integrate them last in the order of drivers in nLite and do it in textmode. Can't fail! And a question for you: at the beginning of post #2, I see this: "Env = 1.4.9.1 - 2.0.50727.1433.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3, v.5755"; how did v.5755 get there?
  16. NO, no!!! nothing to be sorry about; I added it after your request
  17. You're right, and there it is in the first post.
  18. OK, the same thing just happened to me. The Administrator account shows up on the screen with the password I provided, but my username does not show up anywhere. I haven't included KB973540 at all. Check out my Last_Session.ini. This is what I tried: -The original XPSP1 CD with SP3 slipstreamed, and then run on nLite; -The original XPSP1 CD with SP3 slipstreamed through nLite; -used VirtualPC 2007 SP1 and VirtualBox for testing; -used LastSession.ini from my previous successful nLited CD (I'm using the install right now); Another thing which happens is Windows Tour, which I have excluded with nLite; it didn't show previously, but now it does. Another thing I remembered: we discussed what happens if you give the same name to you computer and your user (HERE); what happens if you give it the same username and registered owner name (properties menu from My Computer)? It's the same on this computer, so it's probably nothing, but it's worth asking. As to Csimbi's digging through nLite.inf, I'll try it, but I'm also open to other suggestions as well. Thank you Edit: csimbi was right, I expanded nlite.inf and found the lines pertinent to this issue. nLite processes them, but for some reason unknown to me, they don't get processed. Is there another way to force the creation of a new user and get it to activate at first boot?
  19. And how did you run Windows Update through Firefox? I use Firefox 3.5.3 and this is what I get: Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site. To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. To upgrade to the latest version of the browser, go to the Internet Explorer Downloads website. As for Outlook 2003, the Junk Filter update is released and updated monthly, and updates for Outlook can also be filed under Security Update for Office 2003, for example. It takes some reading to find out which of the sub-products in Office they refer to. If you want both Windows and Office updates, then you must be using Microsoft Update, or Office Update just for your Office product. Of course, you can always manually search for specific updates in the Microsoft download section on their website. Cheers
  20. Download Service Pack 3 HERE and only here
  21. Hi, I'm still not sure what I could have done to provoke this, but a few days ago I wanted to perform a search using the built-in search engine in XP and... nothing. The only thing that appeared is the helper dog; no combo boxes to choose your criteria from. There is even no text on the blue bar at the top of the window if you choose search from the Start menu, press F3 anywhere or right-click any folder or hard disk to choose it. I'm not using Windows Desktop Search (if that helps). Internet search for this issue has, I'm afraid, not been very successful. If there is a solution to this, like a .reg file or something, I would be much grateful. I'd really hate it if I had to do another install just for this.
  22. She wants to recover her account password from outlook 2003; she's using the same account on another computer as well, so she wants to use it to recover her password from the other computer.
  23. Yes; for one thing, if it's made with nLite, it will contain files Last Session.ini and Last Session_u.ini in the root. There are other ways to check as well.
  24. You know, the best way to get what you want inside is to do it yourself, so try THIS. Enjoy
