  1. A Socket7 or a Slot A or 1? Slot7 doesn’t exist, what CPU is it any way? A K6?... but... You could start indeed with that X800 on an nVidia 550 motherboard from ABIT. Soon there will be the Celeron version of the Core2Duo, I’m waiting for that! The 820 from iNTEL also dropped in price but it’s not my favorite choice, exactly non of the P4 core based CPUs are, it was all the way AMD for me when the Athlon came out (Slot A and up).
  2. Well, Ripken isn’t that bad, I have seen worse, and he does well for his age and experience. I’m a hardhead but I know what I’m talking about but some times I’m missing the latest stuff, I’m getting older .
  3. When you buy new RAM then AM2... But what is wrong with the system you have now? It should perform well with 2GB and a 7900GT for example...
  4. A Budget system of 700US$ (incl. 19" TFT) with a 200 US$ VGA card so yes, 900US$ systems. And only the Core2Duo with mobo will cost most likely 400 US$ alone... let me check that, brb EDIT: Core2Duo with a 945 based mobo will start around 300 US$ (400 US$ for a 965P based one) alone while I can get a single core AMD with a 550 based mobo for almost half the price.
  5. "... its just like how u say s939 is dead, when its really not, but in reality it is.... you kinda see what im getting at?..." Yeah, but AMD stopped making S939 (old model, not the AM2 with the same pin count ) for real. AMD also confirmed that, but never did they confirm the single core CPU, neither did iNTEL . azagahl, you are right but for example the Core2Duo that ripken is talking about has a better and faster FPU unit that could benefit for most apps and games. I keep it with single core CPUs my self for the time beeing, and to tell you the truth I like to keep it lowbudged on the CPU with a good VGA card (not the 8800 from nVidia b/c it has to much bugs with the PCI-E and only works well with a better FPU unit like from the Core2Duo) like the 7900 series from nVidia. 2GB of RAM is a "must have" now...
  6. What the... did I miss something? Where did you get that from?
  7. Yup, I was talking about the first cooler you posted, the second one doesn’t fit on his mobo or he has to cut the fins of the Northbridge heat sink. EDIT: Okay, they both don´t fit ... So, here is the only option 3aces has: Swap the Southbridge heat sink with the Northbridge heat sink, then both coolers will fit. Don’t worry about the heat of the Northbridge: Since you don’t use the onboard VGA it will stay cool enough with the little sink also other brands use smaller sinks on the 6100/410 chipsets.
  8. If you don´t use your PCI slots then go for the latest Zalman cooler .
  9. 500W doesn’t say much about a power supply. It’s about the 12Volt lines, better get one with 2 (two) 12Volt lines.
  10. No, they are 5400rpm 100GB drives. I noticed then some USB ports on the frond of a case, mostly the cheaper cases, are just USB1.1 compatible so what I do is to tell my customers to use the ports on the back. Normally it should be the same but my experiences are different...
  11. That´s not to fast, I do that almost on my network, those 10GB in 15 minutes. It should go faster then 16MB/s, I used Toshiba on USB2 and got max. 28MB/s, Avg. 25/26MB/s...
  12. Yeah, it's a great drive! 10GB transfers in about 10-15 minutes @ 5400RPM! Did you connect that on a USB2?
  13. Just found this: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20061229PR203.html Wanted to let you know .
  14. Welcome to the forums andrewwan1980 . You posted in the Hardware forum but there is also a network forum. But here are my 2 cents: Buy a Linksys or a DLink, those brands make good access points that are easy to setup with no restrictions on NAT or firewall settings. Don’t put a router behind a router, which could give you problems with DHCP and other settings.

    RAM

Or just take the RAM out and make a picture or type the information on the label of the RAM. Sometimes shop owners sell what they want to sell .
  16. Those housings are not that expensive, around 15 CAD. The 2.5" drives seem to be okay. The 3.5" drives have problems with there power regulators on the print, they burn out or shortcut your PSU. What I like about the 2.5" external housing is that you don’t need an extra power supply like the 3.5" housings.
  17. Did you see that case in the store or only online? I would leave it as it is and go for a CoolerMaster or Antec case with an Enermax or Antec power supply of 430W or more, that would be enough for the 7900GT and your Celeron CPU.
  18. That site... Looks like a ghost-site to me, with "02. Apple Cinema HD Display (30 flat panel)" as second best sold product Can´t you just find a shop next door or so that sells it?

    A Huge s***

Tjeez man, run there and clean it... you big kid
  20. Well, dead CPU is not likely, but the mobo could be indeed.
  21. You did some research I see . Those cases, way cool, well made 100% aluminum case. A-DATA is one of my favorites for its price and reliability. EDIT: Those Antec Blue-LED case fans are not expensive at all by the way!
  22. A bit late, but all is fixed by my Hoster now, finaly they enabled “register_globals”... Thanx
  23. I would like to know what brand/type that was. I only get 3 meters here or so, and those are from Labtec and Logitech.
  24. Give us the brand and model type please of the PSU, not only that, also your whole setup. Did you try to start up your system without any thing connected to your mobo except RAM and CPU.
  25. Didn´t we see this subject a few months ago? Or am I missing something (and no, it´s not a part of my brain ).
