  1. I would try to see if it holds when you use an other cable or so, or try to separate them; each on it’s own cable.
  2. On the outside it looks like an Antec or Chieftec, but on the inside it looks a bit renewed. Not to bad for 35 US$ .
  3. i agree with the 2 guys above: P-ATA add-on card will be the cheapest, there are some with 2 P-ATA connectors and some with 1 P-ATA and 2 S-ATA connectors, the chip on those cards are most likely from VIA.
  4. @ MGadAllah, In better words, if it’s a Windows swap-file then it’s a page-file. It’s virtual memory that is written / read frequent to/from the drive. If your system RAM is full then it needs a page-file to release some of the system RAM. See the article on Wikipedia for more info .
  5. Is that Elixir RAM? If so it will be the best in your list, the worst one is Spectek, that´s just plain crap.
  6. I´m sure you will be better of with PCI-E, if they already have it there...
  7. Can you pay it? .... If so and if you like it....go for it Are you... ? For 800 CAD he can buy a NEW system, 0 days old .
  8. Late question but why not an AMD X2 or a Core2Duo?
  9. I agree with that, just a bit lower: 600 CAD. For 900 CAD you could get a system that performs the same or even better but NEW, with options to upgrade in DDR2, not with DDR1 and 4 banks full with "just" 1GB for example. The video card is nice but has the same performance of a newer 250 CAD card. And "very new" in computer world is 3 months… Need some help on building a system? Here we are .
  10. Maleko, It’s not that noisy but just a bit more then a case with 12cm fans. Did you see that inside it’s the same as the WaveMaster? Way cool cases and still one of my favorites when you look at quality/price. I remember when I had the first one in my hands, back in 2000; still are the same quality as back then. Prices dropped because at that time the cost was "only" €172 or so .
  11. My 2 cents: A-DATA (V-DATA) makes good RAM and you can OC it with 5-10%, so if you want to OC then get other RAM. You are looking at 2 very different cases: The CoolerMaster case: The good: - Looks, timeless design - Materials, totally build out of Aluminum, AND SURE NOT FLIMSY! 2mm inside, 0.8-1mm outside!! The bad: - Older inner design - just one 8cm fan in the back (it has space for 2 8cm fans in front but it will make the system way more noisy) The Antec case: The good: - Good design, except for the dull looking front - 12cm cooling fan in the back and optional 12cm in front - Comes with a not-to-bad PSU The bad: - Dull looking front What I want to say more: The CoolerMaster is a way different case then the Antec, the CoolerMaster is like 40% more expensive then the Antec so there is no way you really can compare them; mostly because of the materials used. I personally like the CoolerMaster better because of it use of Aluminum, even for the front! On the inside I like the Antec better with it’s 12cm blow holes and a not-to-bad PSU. The questions remain: Do you care about noise? So yes then go for the Antec. Do you like a timeless design and a qualetive better case then go for the CoolerMaster but that one will be 40% more expensive, and yes it’s worth it in my eyes...
  12. I sold Yakumo years ago in Holland. Always they used tubes from Samsung and Daewoo, LCD screens were from Samsung or NEC too. I read that the power supply is internal and I’ve only seen bad TFT/LCD screens with external power supply like GEM. Did you take a look at Hyundai too? They have nice screens for low prices…
  13. My throughput for my raptors in RAID 0 is 140MB/sec... On what did you connect those? Just on the motherboard SATA or is it an add-on card?
  14. Read / Write specs are not the only thing to take a look at... Check the I/O / CPU usage too when it comes to an older system.
  15. No doubt about it: Go for a new HDD.
  16. Modems: Not worth the testing... nVidia 7600 cards: He should make an agreement for the DOAs... Other then that he’s stuck. Business is taking risks .
  17. It is never my attention to troll some one. jaqie, If I made you feel like that then I’m sorry. But when there is a point then please respond to it. I know you did with all the Wikipedia.org links but that wasn’t what I was asking for, although a lot of people would find it informative. I send you a PM, no to bug you but to talk with you without posting here... o well; I didn’t know that you were getting angry... ripken204, No one is fighting here, well at least not me. I know I’m a hardhead but certain not new with computer hardware... jcarle, Look who’s talking , some day I think it’s also better to argue true MSN. I know Zxian is one of your best computer buds and I already have him in my list... NOW ALL HUG AND KISS!!!
  18. That won´t do it, you need to give me some proof now . One thing more: You know you can throw RAM into the PCI-E bus (not directly, but with a circuit)? And what will be the difference then? Why not use the RAM the in the DIMM slots? You know why dedicated video cards have it? They have there own RAM because the system RAM isn’t fast enough...
  19. Nice info, but that I already knew. Now explain me why an onboard VGA chip differs from a PCI-E add-on card. Also the add-on card will have more buffers, any thing on that? I’m not asking you nicely, I just got a bit tempered back there. If you think I’m wrong then proof it this time to me. I know that you know a lot of things but I think you are wrong on this one .
  20. Then why don’t you explain EXACTLY how it works? Take the 6150/430 from nVidia for Example. EDIT: It uses a DEDICATED part of the RAM, a range of addresses, not scrambled or fragmented all over the RAM, it uses complete blocks...
  21. It doesn’t lower performance any more then an add-on VGA card. It’s a standalone circuit that only uses a part of the RAM, ONLY lowering the bandwidth. A 6150 GPU is like a 6200-TC GPU . EDIT: "...think about 5-10% MAX.. ..."
  22. Why not buy a sample? 100pcs first and see how much are bad? And why do business if you don’t trust them? Are they really cheap? Is this the first time you import stuff? If they are cheap then who cares if 20% is defective in one year. Normally 5% is going to be defective with bad hardware, good hardware in the 1 to2% range. It’s not about testing, it’s knowing your business .
  23. PowerDVD enhancements are software isn’t it? Most chipsets have MPEG2 decoding so that part is 100% hardware nowadays. With MEMtest you can see the throughput of cache and RAM.
  24. Strange but true; MEMtest , Everest and well I have to confess Sandra too, and there is more info on this on the net. You know why it doesn’t take up so much bandwidth? Because it uses a part of the RAM dedicated and directly for the onboard VGA-chip.
  25. SATA and jumpers? bonestonne, let me tell you something, you don’t have jumpers with SATA, not even on the add-on cards. But go ahead if you like to spend speed (60MB/s MAX! theoretically) and money on a slower system ...
