    XP drivers

Roxio is quite good, i used to use it a lot. but that version really does blow! and as you found out.. V5 and below tends to cause a lot of problems with XP, stops it shutting down properly and other things.
  2. its done both ways all over the place, many credible sources use mai lai, i would guess mai lai is correct but obviously its pronounced "my" it was only a rural village so i expect its not some "official" name anyhoo and would explain the spellings. twas only just before my time piaqt, not a thousand years ago. Anyways.. tell me some more stories about mamoths...
  3. use Spybot S+D in conjunction with Adaware. Adware misses some things and spybot misses others, but what one seems to fail at.. the other will prevail. also dont forget to download updates for them! http://www.safer-networking.org/
  4. look up the mai lai masacre and read some soldiers acounts of it...
  5. Again? been on lots of times.. :S
  6. wow! impressive, saved that to show folks at work
  7. self replicating, and its in run and runonce.. definately a virus or Spyware. you tried removing all references to it in registry? also in Adaware or zonealarm set the regsitry to locked so that it cant continue to add itself to run on system startup. Tried scanning in safemode? also tried Virus scan?
  8. yeah they are talking about solid state/RAM drives. But yeah, i agree... lot of jargonated BS there to try and throw you. $667 for a whole 2gb drive... jeez id fill that up in under a day. Mind.. if you just use that for the OS and then use normal SATA array for the rest then yeah .. very fast pc. Please.. no.. tempted now.. grr
  9. in other words hes finished school and is at college. 6th form is optional at school after your initial education which ends at 16. from there you can go to college or stay and do a 6th year at a high school rather than a full blown college, its classed as college though.
  10. Im a sys admin and work for the Government.
  11. There is a way to do this with the command line, im sure i posted it on the forums someplace but cant find it. you can set which users cant access the internet and also between what times its blocked. You can do the same with group policy or your router anyway.
  12. Ring Dell and demand a proper Windows XP cd. If you bought your PC a long time ago odds on you wont get it though. Still, you paid for it, you should have it right?
  13. find the url of the ad server that the scum advert comes from, and block it with your router or a hosts file. Ta daaa! no more stupid ad. EDIT: just went to tech connect, went all over the site and couldnt get those ads. So either i already blocked the adserver they are on using my router, OR you are infected with some spyware. one or two pages said "done, but with errors on page" so i guess i blocked the ad server. Check your system still tho.
  14. Hope you find the site usefull swerver
  15. Remember you told me you dont want a new printer recently, and you want a seperate CD printer... Bet your kicking yourself now arent ya? an extra few bux and you would have had an Epson R300, been able to print on CD's and wouldnt care bout your lexmark warranty. lol I got to meet a few guys from Lexmark recently for work reasons. i got talking to them.. know what? they mostly owned Epsons - i found it pretty funny.
  16. er.. i have a 320GB RAID array thats internal and dumps all over some slow external drive. Dont see the point,... Maybe for moving data from machine to machine yeah.. but then 40gb isnt a lot of stuff really is it.
  17. err.. either you got the wrong site, or wrong forum. Still, ill move this to right place and maybe someone has an answer for you! Good luck
  18. ill stick to BF:v online instead... and Teamspeak is free! Score table
  19. How to hide hard drives and restrict access to them using the Regsitry. Dont confuse this as unhiding a drive thats hidden in the MBR, this is in windows only. So you will still need to use something such as PM8 or another disk manager to unhide that as its nothing to do with the OS. Log in as the user you want to limit access with. go: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer Create a Dword value called NoDrives - its value will corespond to which drive(s) need to be hidden. A: 1, B: 2, C: 4, D: 8, E: 16, F: 32, G: 64, H: 128, I: 256, J: 512, K: 1024, L: 2048, M: 4096, N: 8192, O: 16384, P: 32768, Q: 65536, R: 131072, S: 262144, T: 524288, U: 1048576, V: 2097152, W: 4194304, X: 8388608, Y: 16777216, Z: 33554432 With these same decimal values you can also do a different tweak, you can leave the drive letter visible, but make it so the user cant view the content of the drive and also stop them using - Run, Map Network Drive, or DIR. Create a new Dword value called NoViewOnDrive and use the appropriate decimal value from above.
  20. Ok, here we go. Dont confuse this as unhiding a drive thats hidden in the MBR, this is in windows only. 21. and today they announce that they are going to drop the price again. Why i wont ever buy another money drain, sorry "games console." I might go buy one myself tho in about a year when they are £30 on the second hand market.
  22. Argh... my notes on this are all at work, its something i havent messed with in a long time. Tell you what, i will email them to Aaron from work tomorrow and hopefully he can post it on my behalf, as i will be at work till late i expect - systems cabinet getting rebuilt, and i need to get my normal work done too. Far as i remember though, you can only hide or unhide the drive if you know its letter. Then again this can always be guessed, you can hide and lock drives too ( i think) so if you have some drive you want to protect from being accessed or edited its handy. i had a bit of a crazy day today and forgot to bring my ring binder home, sorry guys.
  23. you can do it in the registry, i have to go to work though now and havent had enough coffee for my brain to function. I will post how when i get back (and have had chance to look it up in my notes!)
  24. The US charges a huge levvy on bannanas (an illegal one too) to try and drive the former UK colonies out of business. Not all the levvys they charge have a sensible, or valid reason. Many are illegal too, and if it was some company using some of the kinds of tactics our governments use, they would be in court faster than you can say "anti-trust"
