  1. Checkout EVE online? free download of the game and a weeks trial, not that you will get very far or do anything amazing in a weeks play. Its a very steep hill to climb up at first, but join a corp.. they will help you out a lot. Im the CEO of one of the first corps in game, and im the third person ever to sell anything on the market according to a recent post by the devs in their dev blog. My corps name is Critical Mass Enterprises. www.eve-online.com
  2. Check this out: Here If you check the comments, the chap that bought it later posted... THIS
  3. Welcome! thanks for the props
  4. Actually, as Lindows is a modified version of Debian, you can use apt get. And install debian packages on it, no need to use Lindows click n run [with your cash] Almost all of the programs on click n run (or ones very similar) can be downloaded and used FREE using apt.
  5. err.. sounds freaky, gotta read this! cheers utln
  6. If you had a server running active directory you could download the patches to the server and enforce installation using group policy, create a new Group Policy Object and presto, any machines logging onto the network without the patches would auto install them. I would run active directory on a network of the size you have. a company that i wont name (but a large financial one) recently had to shut one of its offices machines down and close its office for 3 days due to sasser. I laughed my head off at that because their sys admin was doing just the same as you (keep in mind this is on a larger network than yours), installing patches on each machine one by one and had all his machines running on the same router (your ok doing that really with just 52 machines).. one machine got sasser and BOOM whole network had it within minutes. He was then re-installing windows on each machine, setting it up, installing software, and patching it. going round the office doing each machine in turn, all 200 or so, like a n00b. This guy gets paid more than i do too, i should go talk to his boss and steal his job! i can explain GPO in more detail if you need me to.
  7. yeah, check your cards fan. they always suck (err not literaly!) and have a very short life. i fthe fan isnt spinning or is spinning slowly or erratically buy a proper fan, for about £20 you could get a very good VGA cooler, thermaltake have a nice range too.
  8. 3rd june i go paintballing, ill post piccies if and when i get them
  9. astromike is your own domain gamehead,
  10. Heh, nice piccies chaosrat, i want a go too! There is a webpage somewhere of a guy firing computer parts out of a trebuchet in the desert, and another site where a guy "fixes" PC's using a 12 gage. Living in the UK theres not much chance of me doing that (well could do the trebuchet i s'pose) Maybe i could just strap some Amonium Peroxide to some monitors or something and see what happens...
  11. Do you have a router? if not ... get one! cheap bit of hardware that will do what you are wanting and protect you against attacks and unwanted traffic, it will also stop internet spreading worms such as blaster and sasser, and any similar worms that start to appear in future. you can pick a router up brand new for under £50, or even get a proper rack mountable one for next to nothing on ebay.
  12. hmm odd quirk you found there Jet. glad you solved it though
  13. ahh but did it still boot?! heh only kiddin. looks like its been rammed by a fork truck, not run over by one. Soon as i saw it thats what i thought before reading other posts. Thats definately a "crashed" PC, id send an error report to ms lol
  14. Thats just the forums, theres often many times that figure reading the news pages.
  15. Buy a Router. i never got bothered by MS Blast and havent been bothered by sasser either. you can get a router for pretty cheap these days too, even pick up a proper rack mount job from ebay for £30 if you look. Or a brand new "home" model from netgear for around £40.
  16. i use debian. but i will say one thing... try play games on Linux. you will soon be running back to windows for that. Also i cant do without fireworks, and no i arent using GiMP i dont like it. Last but not least, try install debian, then thank god for unattended windows CD's! Its good, its powerfull, it looks nice. But it hasnt the industry built around it that windows has, so it lacks REALLY powerfull software to match, i dont care what anyone says, GiMP is no match for Photoshop 8, and GiMP is the best image editor on Linux. Linux is awesome, but the programs for it often suck and let it down. And yes there are viruses for linux, just that most viruses get targeted at windows because it is more wide spread and therefore viruses will get more notoriety being written for the platform because they spread further and wider.
  17. Conatct your OEM system builder and ask for your Windows XP CD, they should provide you with it if you have a valid reason for wanting to not use their "oh so amazing" hidden drive partition and recovery CD's. the amount of people whos hard disk must die and then they are stuck without an operating system CD to install on a replacement drive is amazing...
  18. do you have SP1 installed? if so you will need to make a slipstreamed XP cd, its not hard.. see our guides pages. if not (why not??) then you can use your normal XP CD. Pop the XP CD in the drive and go to Start > Run Type in sfc /scannow and then follow the prompts, it should replace the files that are damaged or missing and hopefully fix your problem.
  19. O+O without a doubt. defrag all your disks at the same time if you like, run various methods of defragging, a brilliant package. with other defrag software you only have the one method of defragging a disk, so if theres some fragged files on there and it cant shift it you are stuck. With O+O another defrag method might just do the trick and move the problem files.
  20. Welcome to the community Anthony
  21. Happy birthday m'lady do anything good?
