Just noticed a small problem, the filename being called in the "Switches:" line refers to a different hotfix. I copied and pasted and couldn't figure out why this one wasn't being installed. Turns out I was installing an older hotfix twice

I believe the add/remove programs just removes the links from the Start Menu. As far as I know you can't uninstall IE6 completely from Windows XP as it is now built into the native windows code.

This isn't an MS Word feature, I'm pretty sure that the mailto: command is treated more like a file extension by the operating system. For instance, to save themselves time the students could probably just go to Start>Run type mailto: and get the same effect. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command] @="" That registry code should clear out the program connected with the mailto: command. However if you are concerned about them accessing hotmail you should really worry about blocking access to the site, rather than blocking methods to access the site such as some of the other users have pointed out.

That code does what you want it to do when I run it.

What are you trying to do? If you put the shortcut into the All Users\Desktop folder it will automatically appear on each profiles desktop, you dont have to copy it to all of them.

If you are starting the Windows XP setup from within one of your Windows XP partitions you wont be able to delete that partition because setup copies files needed for installation onto that partition I believe. If you have a bootable CD-ROM drive and boot from the CD you should be able to delete either partition, and install the operating system again.

Can you post a screenshot of the error?

Are these machines part of an AD. I believe this is a group policy setting that could be pushed out from the server? I'm not positive though.

If your office is anything like mine, you need Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Microsoft Office. EVERY other program belongs on the banned list.

Are the machines already deployed? Or are you just setting them up?

Is there a disk in your floppy drive? If there is, take it out. I know its obvious, but I have it happen a number of times!

I'm not sure about the registry, but I know you can do a shutdown script with Group Policy. Start>Run>gpedit.msc Computer Configuration>Windows Settings>Scripts>Shutdown If you need it to be a registry hack then you're on you're own as to finding where those scripts might be placed.

What part of the control panel are you trying to access? If I remember right when you try to access something such as the user accounts with a standard user, it will just ask you for the username/password for an administrator account?

Why bother even setting a price? Unless your guarentee isn't really a guarentee, you'll be giving them their money back when they get a spam message anyway.

Some of those webcams and other USB devices are very picky about having the software installed before you plug them in and so on. I would unplug all of your USB devices, uninstall all the software that comes with them, go to Device Manager and uninstall all the related drivers, then restart. After you restart I'd install the software as directed in the manual (for example the cam you will probably have to install software, restart, and THEN plug it in). Be sure you restart after uninstalling everything to make sure its completely cleaned out before you try reinstalling.
