Remote Desktop vs VPN vs non-MS apps
gamehead200 replied to ardi's topic in Networks and the Internet
Remote Desktop is only available for Windows XP Professional. Use a VNC client like TAiN suggested! -
I don't have this problem and I have the latest version.

where to work for a summer job nest year...
gamehead200 replied to ripken204's topic in General Discussion
Awards you've received, accomplishments, your skills, previous experience, skills, hobbies, objective, etc... You will find mine attached. You can use that as a template if you want. It sort of has to be polished up a bit, but you can get a good idea. MSCV.doc -

This is the only problem with it. It worked ok before. When I first got the dsl from windstream downloads were pretty fast, but now has slown down to a crawl. The router you recommended is it a wired router? How do I use the upgraded firmware, and what does it do? It is wired/wireless. The upgraded firmware adds very useful features to the router.

[Help] Changing Docs/Settings Folder Using Domain Policy
gamehead200 replied to gamehead200's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
No one has logged onto these laptops except for myself and the other admins. The only profiles that have to be on the D:\ drive are those of the students, who have not even touched them yet. So nothing really has to get copied over. -
Welcome! Nice to see more and more teen members like myself!

Converting a UDP port to a TCP port?
gamehead200 replied to MrChris's topic in Networks and the Internet
I'm guessing your trying to use the Magic Option in Hamachi. Have you tried port 80? You could probably get some expert advice by asking the Hamachi creator (Alex Pankrat) or enthusiasts at http://forums.hamachi.cc -
Which Brand USB Flash Drive Do You Use?
gamehead200 replied to spacesurfer's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
I've got a 1GB iPod shuffle (well, it is a flash drive), a 1GB noname brand (which actually works pretty well, has a read-only switch too), a 512MB Memorex drive, and a 512MB PNY Attaché drive which I lend to people on occasion. -
Routers that I've used have actually slightly increased the speed of the connection. That is very unusual. Is it fairly new? Have you had any recent problems with it other than this one? If you had to get a new router, I would go for Linksys' WRT54GL. Slap some Linux firmware on there and you've got yourself a great router!

Price lists, invoices, graphs, organization, inventory, etc. Currently using it to mark down an inventory of laptops using a barcode reader and the service tags on the bottom of the laptops. (Barcode readers are REALLY handy! )

Linux is great and all, but how about if he has no experience with it? XP should run pretty nicely, actually, with a bunch of components removed from it with nLite, it should run pretty well. I used to have it running on a similar machine. It wasn't great for memory-hungry apps, but it was OK for web browsing, word processing, e-mail, etc. The usual simple stuff. Actually, even Apache might run pretty well on there. Like wizardofwindows mentioned, with a few tweaks and removals, it should work pretty well.

where to work for a summer job nest year...
gamehead200 replied to ripken204's topic in General Discussion
Telling me this at lunch just wasn't enough, was it? You had to release your anger to the rest of the world? How about if your disorganized manager, for some reason, is a member here? @ripken204: There are always places looking for employees. At a young age like 17 (I am also 17, by the way), you should be out there handing out your resumé to different stores and such. Does it really matter what kind of work it is? Not really, as long as your not pushing carts around like sven (lol), but the point is, work is work, and whatever you find now is probably your only shot at getting a job for the summer. Don't wait until the last minute like I did. I've been working for my school for the past two weeks now for a little more than minimum wage, and my job actually requires a bit of thinking. Do I enjoy it? Of course! Why? I'm learning something new while I earn some extra cash! Ask around! You never know, your parents or even some of your friends, or anyone for that fact, might know someone that needs some extra help. Post your resumé online at places like Craig's List. I actually did this and got a few e-mails a few days after posting mine there. I turned down the jobs because they weren't exactly things I would enjoy doing, or weren't jobs that required any thinking (like pushing carts [sry sven , just trying to prove a point, and you told me this anyway]). START EARLY!!!!! Look for a job a few months (yes, months) before school ends. This way, you won't have to waste your time looking for one during your time off. Anyways, good luck with your job hunting for next summer! -
Hey everyone, I really have no experience with domain policies... However, I just helped ghost 100+ laptops at my school, all of which have WinXP installed on the C:\ partition and an empty D:\ partition for file storage. One thing we missed before ghosting them is the fact that the entire contents of the Documents and Settings folder (profile folders) had to be placed in the root of the D:\ partition. Now, after missing this, and not wanting to go to each machine and changing it manually, is it possible to have all new users that login to the domain on each laptop have their profile folder stored automatically in the D:\ partition instead of in C:\Documents and Settings\ using a domain policy? If so, how, because as I said, I have no experience creating or managing these policies, and this would probably be a good time to learn how to do so. I believe we are using Windows Server 2000. Thanks.

I'd suggest getting a new flash drive. This exact same thing happened with my iPod shuffle a while back... Turns out my hub fried the thing! The same thing might have happened to you. It really isn't worth getting it fixed. New ones are so cheap these days.

You know who I mean goose, don't make an issue of it.A response iv'e come to expect from the kids on this forum. Kid? I do hope you realize XPerties is no "kid". Maybe a look at his profile would help you understand this. Really.! This topic is the result of This post here.. Which if you can't read, states. Hmmm... Then how was this topic started a full 10 days BEFORE that topic was created? We are, in fact, interested, and are still looking into this matter very seriously. If you would give us a chance, we would be able to help. As you might expect, a forum Administrator gets tens or hundreds of PMs to look into per day. It takes time to do this, and most of us here have a life outside of MSFN. We try our best in answering these PMs. Out...

[Help] Disabling Hardware Using the Registry
gamehead200 replied to gamehead200's topic in Windows XP
Oh well... A little too late now, I suppose... I disabled that reader on over 100 computers today... Manually... -
Hey everyone, I have Ghosted a bunch of Dell D620 laptops for my school. What we didn't realize is that all the laptops have fingerprint readers and we would like to disable them (long reason) without recreating a new Ghost image. Is there a way to do this using the registry or does it have to be done manually (Computer Management -> Device Manager -> Disable Fingerprint Reader)? I tried disabling it, exporting the entire registry, enabling it, exporting the entire registry, and comparing the two 50MB+ registry files to see what was changed, but after finding the changes and creating a registry file to disable the reader, it still did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That was kind of a "feature"... But I've restricted the number of characters you can enter to 95 and the height to 100... So if for some reason the script puts in a line break at character 93, it will create a 7th line, but it will not show.

Hey everyone, Recently, I've been working on something because of some feedback I've been receiving from a few members regarding my previous signature that would list your IP, OS, browser, my Hamachi status, and a random quote. Now, you can generate your own dynamic signature of this sort using my newly created dynamic signature generator: http://siggen.astromike.com/ Give it a try, and let me know what you think of it in this thread! Any suggestions as to what you would like added to it are welcome! If you'd like to make your own signature displaying your Hamachi status, this thread should pretty much start you off: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=47730 You can also check out my Hamachi Status List script that will list all of your computers' Hamachi statuses on a neatly organized page: http://www.astromike.com/scripts/hamachistatus/
