Not necessarily: MS has already rescued Apple from bankrupcy, IIRR. That reminds me of how the United Fruit Co. (now "Chiquita"), the banana MS which actually "created" bananas as a household fruit kept nursing Standard Fruit Co. (now "Dole"), just to prove it (viz.: United) wasn't a monopoly (although Standard's share of the banana market was consistently somewhat bigger than Apple's share of the OS market has ever been).

Naah, and noone even thought of garage sales ... Nor of amazon.com...

However, the one you gave a link to has this warning: Is it still usable, even so?
-
Please feel free to do it.

J@harkaz: Please, just to make it crystal clear and dispel any and all doubt: SP4 installs KB892130 (WGA Validation), but does *NOT* actually install KB905474 (WGA Notifications)... instead, it adds just a registry tweak to make WU/MU stop offering KB905474. Is that right? I did download and read the COMPONENTS_REFERENCE.PDF, but it is too terse, and not clear at all, about this matter.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers

Bump? -
+1. And on IE8, too! But one should append ";C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_72\bin" manually to the PATH environment variable, just like in the case of JRE65/66.

Zipped important files and now Winzip won't unzip them

Well, I can see the 1st poster doesn't actually spam at all, he/she/it is more of a setter, so there's no reason to ban him/her/it... now, no ban == no blacklist so, they get through, all right... -
What part of the quote below did you fail to understand?

I guess this is the best you can do legally. -
Do some websites out-right block connections from IE6 browser?
dencorso replied to Nomen's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I'm baffled: I never had any such issues, nor heard about 'em... My UserAgent, while on IE8 is currently: "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; Trident/4.0)" -
Yes. You know the dance already. And you also know there may be no solution, but the only way to know it is by testing.
-
For intel, not really. No. But you knew that already.

Do some websites out-right block connections from IE6 browser?
dencorso replied to Nomen's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I'm sorry, LoneCrusader, but that spoof fools sites which drop you because of a browser not "new enough", but it ought not to help in the case of programs that depend on parts of IE, for which IE8 is not enough. Moreover, AFAIK, that the exact same spoof should work on x64, just as well as on x86, if you remove the (really unneeded) line on "Platform", were it to work at all (however, I may be wrong in this). -
In principle, no. Now, even if they're just stubs, if all they serve for is enabling to run things from Win 10 on previous Win versions, as claimed by MS, then I do think it becomes the case of hiding, all right! So, in this case, my answer remains: in theory, no, but in fact, yes! Of course, YMMV. I'm trying to keep to the principle of listing all updates that, IMO, smell of mischief. Some are obvious and there's quite a consensus about them. Some are controverse, like this one. Then again, you could duplicate your 10 VM, remove it from the duplicate, and demonstrate whether it actually is benefical or not. AFAICS, they've taken the hint from Xeno86 or BlackWingCat and just released an official bunch of stubs to backport things 10 into previous Win versions, and that, in and of itself, should be harmless... provided one wants things 10 to run on them, and that's where we disagree. I concede you may be right, but then, as I said before, it's just a question of adding the update when and if it proves to be needed, not before. One can keep a copy of it forever on an archive disk, or until said need arises, right?

Then again, by tying newer processors to Win 10, MS may hoist Intel under together with itself, while AMD may balk out any moment and start providing hardware compatible with XP-7-8.1, for those intent on keeping using that. Moreover, just like this quote from another thread well illustrates, those users who use their computers for Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, maybe e-mail and even sometimes getting news (like CNN, etc.), aren't going to keep having desktops nor notebooks anymore, very soon, so Intel will lose customers galore, anyway...

Do you mean Bearwindows' UNIVBE? Which VBE drivers did you use?
-
@Dave-H: You can update 7-zip on XP SP3 by simply susbstituting all files and subdirs by the newer ones, while booted from one of your other OSes. Or you can use the installer. Anyway, I guarantee you v. 15.14 works beautifully on XP SP3.

Just gave them a quick look... did you notice the description of many, if not all, of them is: "ApiSet Stub DLL"?
-
@glnz: Redownload from the link I gave (below, again, for easy reference) and try installing again. Make sure you get the x86 (=32-bit) version, and go for it. It should insatall OK. Don't forget to untick the two optional checkboxes on the installer, BTW.

"Slipstreamable" Intel Chipset INF Drivers
dencorso replied to LoneCrusader's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Well, there actually seems to be a version of UNIATA for 9x, which was created by Xeno86 from Alter's sources from that time, just before Xeno86 gave up 9x/ME. While I've never had a copy of it, it seems Bearwindows either has it or knows who does. It's also possible that Alter himself does have a copy of it. Or maybe you can get it from Xeno86 himself, in case he still is reachable. In any case, it seems there were still some bugs in that version, that being the reason it was never released... then again you might try it, and maybe even get to fix those issues, in case you manage to get a copy of it. I didn't post about it before, because it seems to me to be little more than a legend, but seeing all your other options were already explored, I think it just fair that I make you aware of this story, in case you want to pursue it further. Of course, there's no guarantee whatsoever the driver I'm talking about is anything more than vaporware but, then again, it may even be usable... no way to know it unless you get a copy of it. Good luck! -
Copy just the line you're gonna edit onto the ntamd6.0 section, then edit it and give it a go. Let's see what happens.

While it's preposterous the way MS continues insists in pushing 10, those offerings make sense (one regarding the other), and confirm my initial pairing of them. That said, it remains fundamental to keep eyes wide open at each patch Tuesday, for those of us who haven't yet fully relinquished MS patches.

Your driver is too old! Try this one, albeit I really doubt it'll work, at least this one has Ivy Bridge processors.
