From Google Cache, as it was on 7 Jan 2016 18:40:43 GMT. BTW, hmuellers is henceforward banned because of having destroyed forum content (whatever one posts becomes part of MSFN).

Then again, the GPU-Z screenshot on post #24 did already give 0A16 for DEV, that's whence I took it.
-
With all due respect: They are not used by IE8, but they are used by Explorer.exe (the windows explorer)... and, on inspection, they have small differences only, from version to version, but they sure aren't just upped in version number. Nor just that and different checksums and PE Timestamps, of course, either...

I don't know which files are those you've got. Get the x64 drivers pointed to on post #16. Extract them. The IGDLH64.INF must have this section: [IntelGfx.NTamd64.6.0]%iSNBGM1% = iSNBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0106%iSNBGD1% = iSNBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102%iSNBGM2% = iSNBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116%iSNBGD2% = iSNBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0112%iSNBGM2P% = iSNBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0126%iSNBGD2P% = iSNBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0122%iSNBGD3% = iSNBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_010A%iIVBGD0% = iIVBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0162%iIVBGM0% = iIVBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166%iIVBGD0SRV% = iIVBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_016A%iIVBGD0GT1% = iIVBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0152%iIVBGM0GT1% = iIVBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0156%iIVBGD0SRVGT1% = iIVBD0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_015AIf so, then replace either 0162, 0166 or 016A, but only one of those each time, by 0A16, and see what happens.The driver you posted is even older, it appears to have only Sandy Bridge...
-
That seems to be the best bet, iIVBGM0 should mean Ivy Bridge Mobile. But how in the world could I be sure? This is just trial and error! You can try the DEVs 162 and 16A... But do change one at a time. The others should be even older models. Now, it's perfectly possible that neither one will work. As I said before, there's no guarantee whatsoever.
-
Of course there are .INF files. The Universal Extractor can unpack that installer. The inf you should chage is IGDLH.INF Delete the line "CatalogFile=igdlh.cat", then change the line "%iIVBGM0% = iIVBM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166", so that the DEV number maches your graphics chip. Then save, cross your fingers and go for it! However, as always, here the standard disclaimer applies: I can guarantee nothing whatsoever about this procedure, and about the use one makes of it. So, by deciding to apply it you fully accept that anything you do is of YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY... Hence, if after performing this mod your pc morphs into a purple mushroom and explodes, causing a 10-day worldwide blackout in the process, followed by a tsunami of purple marshmellow, you know you can't blame me for it! You have been warned.

Got offered KB2976978 yet again today on an 8.1 machine I'm servicing! Won't MS ever tire?
-
A new Silverlight (v. 5.1.41212.0) is available! Also the IE6 version of KB3124275 is availble at the MS Update Catalog, and it has inside the latest (and presumably also last) versions of browseui.dll and shdocvw.dll (v. 6.0.2900.6985)... true, IE8 doesn't need those, but explorer.exe uses them.

No, sorry... I managed fully skip Vista systems, up to now. While most machines I have are on XP, I have two on 7SP1, and that's all. Maybe JorgeA can help you.
-
Do try the reverse hack, as compared to the one you already attempted: Get the last driver known to work with Vista (say, for the 4000), and add VEN & DEV from the 4400, and point that to install the same things the .INF would install for the 4000. Then cross your fingers and test it. I don't bet it'll work but, then again, you don't have anything to lose, at this point, right?
-
I don't think we have anyone here able to do it. Let's see whether someone else chimes in with more promising info. Meanwhile, do try also asking on the Vista Forums. Maybe there you can find someone with better news. But do please remember to also keep us posted.

What's it: Alienware, maybe? Just curious... But the answer remains the same: not officially supported by Intel. Maybe you can coax a Win 7 driver to install... or you can go 7SP1, and avoid headaches galore! Bear in mind I'm a XPSP3 user to this day... then again, I select the hardware I buy on the basis of what'll run XP with full support, which means stopping at Ivy Bridge and Z68. There's plenty of that at eBay, you know.
-
I think (s/)he means an "Intel® HD Graphics 4400" graphics adapter, which means a "Haswell-MB or -ULT", most probably a "Core i3 4xxxU". If so, the answer is: there is none. Intel dropped support of Vista, too, not just XP.
-
Isn't there any know simple hardware firewall, one that might be inserted between the modem and the router (be it wireless or not)? Something based on a RaspberryPi or Arduino, or whatever? Not an expensive thing, one intended to be used by discerning home users... Nothing like that at all, that might be usable and easy to set up?

And, when you do report in this thread, please do state if it's on Windows Defender, or on which anti-virus is the machine you're reporting on. -
Sure! Then again, Dibya seems to like some archeology... BTW, do you think there may be an Emerald Pill? Since there's a Red Pill and a Blue Pill...
-
What is "Emerald", if I may be so bold as to as ask?
-
No idea. But, then again, there's no need. As always, the worst security issue remains PEBCAK, of course. BTW, do you mind if I split your latest post and this one into a new topic?
-
Well, most probably you asked in the wrong place. I agree: you must have asked in the wrong place, no doubt about it! XP remains alive and kicking !!! I'm posting this from a XP SP3 machine right now!

Not necessarily, and absolutely not always: Thanks are due to jaclaz for bringing the above study to my attention. MS is becoming very adept at doing just that...
