  1. My personal estimates, just to put numbers to things, and using MS own number of 10 users (= 900 million, obtained by telemetry) as a starting point, we should have some 450 million 7 users and (by reading the slope of my regression line above) some 5 million (but maybe twice that, thanks to intense version spoofing) XP users today. Refs.: Netmarketshare, https://www.askwoody.com/2020/win10-market-share-up-a-bit-win7-down-a-smidgen-and-the-browsers-havent-changed-much-at-all/ and https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-versus-windows-7-whose-numbers-do-you-trust/, FTW. One must remember that market share numbers are terribly noisy, undersampled and distorted by spoofing, so it's much easier to mesure the ratio of 10 to 7 users (the two desktop leaders) than the absolute percentage of XP users, because the latter is about the same size (if not smaller) than the average random noise associated with the available measurements (and, hence, it's no wonder at all that the 3 sources reported by Ed Bott mostly agree on the former but not the latter).
  2. 'Nuff said! [image: <http://clipart-library.com/clipart/65111.htm>]
  3. If you're a true supermegaueberultraparanoid person, get yourself a full-body Velostat gimp-suit, 'cause just a cap is not enough. Else, a good hardware firewall, MBAM 3.0 premium and a PEBCAK trap ought to suffice (and if not, just redeploy the latest backup) for you to hang loose.
  4. By the same token, roytam1's Palemoon might perhaps be branded OnMoonshine&Mooning.

  6. So, try "Felix" (= the one who has good luck), instead of Draconis!
  7. Me, too (while logged in)! I've pinged xper about it, already.
  8. I fully agree with @TechnoRelic. And, in case @Mathwiz agrees to orchestrate the process, I think we should cut short the discussion and suggestions stage, agree to a reasonable set of brand-names as fast as possible and get to work on them. There's a saying in my country that goes somewhat like this: "While the sage ponder in a haze... the clueless attack by surprise!!!"... and I do think it applies here quite perfectly.
  9. Ghost is (and always was) able to perform full-drive sector-by-sector (dd like) forensic quality copies. On just has to use the command-line option -ir
  10. What about Jan 01, 1970?
  11. No need for that... instead, I do want to know exactly which motherboard (= Model, Manufacturer) are you using, please.
  12. Gimme a meaningful title and I sure'll oblige.
  13. Now... that's a beauty! A translating adaptive 2-disk docking station! Of course there's electronic "intellligence" built into it! https://de.sharkoon.com/Download/Storage_Solutions/Docking_Stations/SATA_QuickPort_Intern_Multi/datasheet_sata_quickport_intern_multi_en.pdf
  14. What exactly is your "SATA drive enclosure" (= Model, Manufacturer) and how is it connected to the machine, since it's not via USB?
  15. Restore to november state, with the internet disconnected, disable automatic updates, then reconnect the internet and keep the machines like that, for the time being. Or use just one of them to find out which file(s) are the culprit, step by step.
  16. Are you getting a black screen? Like this one? I mean, are you getting the exact same error "Status"?
  17. Sure. But they ask you to solve an old-style text captcha once, instead of those infuriating pic-based re-captchas multiple times. Vive la différence!
  18. What I do, when I'm not in the mood for Google's antics is to move over my search to Yandex.
  19. It's Google being a PITA. It discriminates against browsers not Chrome/Chrome-like (and maybe against XP, too!). I confirm the occurrence of that annoyance, but knoe no solution to avoid it, up to now. I think probably there isn't any solution for that.
  20. Why not: Chilling Howl for the Pale Moon derived browsers and Scary Rattle for the Serpent derived browsers, perhaps followed by a number (viz. "52" or "55") to distinguish the variants? http://web.archive.org/web/19990508123652/http://ftp.sunet.se/ftp/pub/pictures/animals/snakes/burmp.jpg
  21. In the recent past, when we were trying to come up with an interim image for both Serpent 52 & 55 @roytam1 made crystal clear he opposes identifying his builds as "for XP", since they do work OK on later NT-family OSes. This is the one thing about branding we know precisely how he feels about. +1. Yet, I do still prefer Jörmungandr to any other name for Serpent 52. By the same token, it could be RoyFox Jörmungandr, of course! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jörmungandr#/media/File:Jormungandr.jpg
  22. Of course... but, then, what isn't?
  23. Of course I do. In the unforgettable words of Lord Acton: Yet, I do feel here some Realpolitik is in order... just that. I agree.
