There were several things that caused all of this. Cloudflare, proxies, server firewall rules, cached Cloudflare IPs on the DNS servers, my own mistakes, etc. I hope everything is all right now. For now :-)

The 502 Bad Gateway problem is caused by Cloudflare. It can take up to 48 hours for all Name Servers (NS) to fully propagate and revert back to the old NS.

I got a bit carried away playing around with the CSF firewall. I set the WAF rules way too strictly. Without Cloudflare, the server needs to be built like a fortress, which is incredibly hard to pull off without causing some collateral damage.

Due to frequent bot attacks that are simply crashing the server, I am going to have to use Cloudflare. It is the only way to stop them. I know some people won't like this, but there is nothing else I can do about it. Thank you for your understanding.

This is going to be one of those unfortunate things where despite MSFN focusing not only on modern versions of Windows, but also legacy versions of Windows, we cannot always keep the forums accessible to legacy Windows and browsers. Your mileage may vary, but as the web evolves and security holes are found, we need to keep up with those new standards and fixes. This is going to be more of what Invision supports, rather than xper. He can only do so much to keep the forums functional, but also safe. The web is a much different place than when I joined the forum 16 years ago and with attackers becoming more sophisticated, along with the use of AI, it's imperative to keep everything up to date. While Pale Moon is still being developed, it's still legacy enough where the developers will need to make changes to the underlying engine or more sites are just going to start breaking as the years go on. As much as many don't like it, progress doesn't stop, it's just a fact of life unfortunately.

Over the past three days, MSFN has undergone a comprehensive and costly system upgrade. This process involved critical updates to our server environment—including MySQL, MariaDB, and PHP—as well as upgrading the core forum platform to version 5. Immediately following the upgrade, we experienced a critical hard drive failure. This forced us to replace the drive entirely and perform a complete reinstallation of the system from scratch. Due to these unforeseen hardware complications, a substantial financial investment, and a database size of approximately 6 GB, we encountered several major technical challenges. Regrettably, due to these issues, a few recent posts have been lost. Consequently, the forum has been reopened while final adjustments, primarily regarding user interface layout and widgets, remain in progress. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition. Thank you.

I just tested New Moon 28 32-bit 20260815. GitHub Assets opens, but unfortunately, it uses 100% CPU, which doesn't return to normal, and the whole browser is blocked as long as the GitHub page is the current tab without any new error messages in the Browser Console, probably as the tab is dead. That means this version is also useless to me. So for now, I'll stick with the New Moon 28 32-bit 20260627 version.

Everything is sorted out regarding the bots, server configuration, and server security. Bots are blocked on 3 levels—scrapers and malicious bots alike, as well as those attempting SQL injection. Everything is working exactly as it should now. Thanks for the advice anyway.

My stance on CloudFlare has been made known, i.e. it creates several serious issues client-side/user-side for legitimate members not having the most-up-to-date Chromium/(mainline) Firefox code snapshot, NOT using the latest version of Win11, not having a recent, powerful, multi-core CPU to solve challenges or coming from "smaller" countries (like Greece) with IP pools having lower scores by the web powers that be 😠 ... I also understand it's the ultimate counter-measure when the "bots hit the fan" 😜 , so a server owner might really need to deploy it at such occasions... Probably a wise thing to do, too; I'd suggest, if I might, that a disclaimer be posted in the registration page/form, that "0 post accounts" would be routinely purged for security and database performance reasons, so real humans intending to register know beforehand what to expect 😄 ... All in all, during the last two hours or so, things look to have settled down without CloudFlare ON ; the board is responsive, functional in somewhat older browsers too (fx-115esr-based), sign-in works, "502 BR" very rare now; not to jinx it, of course 😜 ...

All of that has already been implemented on the server and within Invision—except for Cloudflare. I don't mean to be rude, but what do you think I've been doing for the past 25 years? I was out of the game for 2 years and some things have changed quite a bit. But as always, I'll sort it out. For now, I have blocked them using Nginx deny rules. It's temporary until the Vultr IP addresses clear up. Cloudflare uses Vultr.

The Name Servers (NS) have still not 100% propagated, especially in North America. You might experience a sporadic 502 Bad Gateway error. Please be patient.

Just to report that Panda Dome is still working perfectly for me on XP SP3. I guess the problems were indeed just a temporary glitch which they identified and fixed. Whether our reports helped with that or not is impossible to say, of course.

Thanks to EAZY BLACK, we officially now have the 359.06 XP driver ported to vanilla Windows 2000, which means we are no longer restricted to the GTX 480 without the extended kernel! In my testing here, I have a 2500K system with a 980 Ti, and although for now there is no control panel, the driver itself seems to be stable! And yes, 3D acceleration seems to work fine as well. @xper AWESOME work in the upgrades! Here is one thing that may need looked into. I bookmark this for MSFN - https://msfn.org/board/discover/ And almost always load as a BACKGROUND TAB that is not active until I activate that tab. So it loads in the background until I am ready to start reading that tab. But... Doing that now has that background tab redirecting itself several times. @AstroSkipper The only solution to make this forum backwards compatible-friendly is to migrate forum software to something like phpBB, but considering this forum started with Invision from the start, the chances of that happening are very slim, because migrating and converting years of data to work with other software isn't a 1 day job, if it's even possible in the first place...

Invision Community Dropped Legacy Engine Support Modern versions of Invision Community (especially Invision 4.x and the newest Invision 5 infrastructure) are heavily built on modern JavaScript frameworks, CSS grid variants, and Progressive Web App (PWA) components. Pale Moon uses the Goanna engine (a legacy fork of Mozilla's older Gecko engine). Because Pale Moon does not natively compute or follow modern JavaScript ECMAScript standards at the same pace as Chromium or standard Firefox, interactive features on your forum will completely shatter. Features like the text editor box, notification drops, AJAX content loading, and login popups will continuously throw errors or appear blank to Pale Moon Running an Invision Community forum while catering to users on legacy or non-standard browsers like Pale Moon creates an impossible web development conflict. You should treat Pale Moon issues as an unfixable, client-side problem rather than something you need to resolve on your server. Turning features off on server to cater to one or two Pale Moon users strips security and optimization benefits away from the 99% of your community navigating via Chrome, Safari, or Firefox. I don't have time for arguing. End of discussion. You don't like it? You have other forums.

I can actually browse GitHub in New Moon 32-bit (latest), but during page load CPU goes to 100% for a while and when that has settled down, clicking on something makes it go to 100% again... Scrolling reacts very slow. (XP SP3 VM; 3.5GB RAM; 1 core assigned)

OS: WinVista SP2 32-bit CPU: Intel Core2 Duo T5250 @1.50GHz (2008 era) I also tested the palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20260815-d849524bd-uxp-e5e0e958e3-xpmod package, actual buildID=20260813020130 Single release GH webpages like https://github.com/violentmonkey/violentmonkey/releases/tag/v2.47.1 open relatively easily/quickly and the page is responsive and scrollable; the relative timestamps and asset toggle previous issues appear fixed; trying to load the full list of Releases page, https://github.com/violentmonkey/violentmonkey/releases is not as smooth/quick; while the page loads, one CPU core is constantly busy, but after the page has been fully rendered, the CPU used by process palemoon.exe soon drops to 0-1%; the page is scrollable, but the scroll itself is NOT smooth... Please could it be possible to add the feature to set the text color of taskbar buttons? Eg. I'm using black Taskbar (set via "custom taskbar coloring") but I have to set the Dark mode of Windows to get the white text for taskbar buttons. I would like to have light theme for Windows, but it turns the taskbar button's texts into black, so it's unreadable, actually. It would be great to have something like the "Use custom taskbar text color" feature in SAB! Thank you very much.

It is difficult to say what (stupid) provision there might be that prevents you from restoring/recovery, Usually it is not very sophisticated (i.,e. it doesn't interrogate the hard disk for make/model as that would be a problem in manufacturing assembling lines when a batch of different make/model disks is provided and of course there would be the need to re-create different Recovery Discs for different batches). So, generally speaking the check is done: 1) on Disk's Signature (on the MBR) 2) on Disk's Signature AND MBR boot code 3) on some values in the MBR partition data 4) on some other "hidden" sector or partition A test that costs little (only some time and patience) would be, since you have the original hard disk AND the recovery disc work fine on it would be to make a forensic (dd-like) clone of the old hard disk on the new hard disk (same size or bigger) and see what happens with it. I wouldn't overdo it, at least for the test, i.e. if the original hard disk is a 250 GB, one, a clone on a 250 or 320 GB disk has more chances to work than a clone on (say) a 1 TB disk.

I implemented in my ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3 package the tool Min2Tray which I therefore have been using for years. So I can minimise any other programme to the systray as well. That was the best I could find.

I'm down to one active computer using Windows 7, the one I am posting from. I do all of my daily driving with it and every site I need to use still works. My old Win7 is still connected but it stays off most of the time. That computer was the one that used to be my daily up until the end of June and was the one that I had posted about in the Uptime and HD Reliability threads.

I have an FM Transmitter that I've modified to "jam" any radio within 50 feet. Overrides a local FM radio station and plays DEAD SILENCE instead. Not sure if I'm breaking any FCC rules or not. BUT it is a GODSEND for my SANITY! Why? Because I do not (and will not!) listen to COUNTRY MUSIC !!! :)
