  1. Because in my opinion, Jody, it was one of the reasons win32 doesn't respond here anymore. I want to stick forks in my eyes each time I read numerous references glorifying 360 in Supermium's thread. It's no comparison by any means (no one can compare version 86 to 121), and even if it is (in your opinion), it's simply not needed for this young project. Would you like me to come to any of Firefox's threads and start telling how I like Chrome? Or "comparing" it in a way "We've ALWAYS done things like that here"? Or simply mention they can't work with somewhat modern sites? Think about it. I can't tell for D.D, we'd have to wait what he thinks about it.

  2. Hey Jody, many thanks for the time taken! I run x64 Vista SP2 with a very old nvidia card Titan 6gb (January 2013)/ Driver version 382.16 (the last one that works good with it), thanks to @D.Draker for porting it! Supermium is terribly bright for me. I tried other drivers, all the same. Here I attach screens from chrome://gpu Supermium is terribly bright with thick and heavy fonts. While the usual Chrome is fine. Edit: I retried on another computer, all the same, it's brighter.

  3. And a special thanks to @nicolaasjan for providing objective and real facts in that inofficial Pale Moon thread! I really appreciate your objectivity and practicality. As you probably know, I haven't posted on the Pale Moon forum for a long time. And I always feel vindicated in this decision when I read such comments. Thanks again!

  4. And again, only half-truths and falsehoods in the Pale Moon forum by our "friend" athenian200, in a thread that is not the official support thread of my mod uBlock Origin Legacy: Source: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30787&sid=feea3eb912a653ba49c1fb3c2bc447f3&start=60#p248309 Why does someone who spreads so many untruths and half-knowledge think he can give advice, especially when he has discredited himself so much with an inadequate examination and disastrous conclusions? Unbelievable! He shouldn't gloss over mistakes he has made, but rather apologise to his readers for the nonsense which he spread there. Read here: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30787&sid=feea3eb912a653ba49c1fb3c2bc447f3&start=60#p248292 The only thing that is really true in his stories is that he has no idea about extensions. Here is a quotation from the linked post above: Anyway! If one had read the changelogs I provided, one would have realised that not only filter lists were changed. Please, ignore what this guy is saying there! Form your own independent and uninfluenced opinion! Therefore, I advise everyone to read here or ask questions here to get factually correct answers or information when it comes to my mod uBlock Origin Legacy. Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  5. ... When upstream (Moonchild Productions) forked UXP from a Mozilla ESR 52.6.0 code snapshot (which had FULL support for ALL Vista SP2 features, including Aero Glass in its default theme ), the first task they undertook was to completely excise ALL code features pertaining to Windows XP and Vista support from their future application platform, as they targeted ONLY Win7+; this hunt for XP/Vista code was a relentless one, spearheaded by then lead dev Matt A. Tobin, a sworn enemy of these OSes ... When current maintainer (roytam1) of these UXP forks attempted to restore the removed support by upstream, his main focus was on the Windows XP OS, as it's the one he's using too and the one the overwhelming majority of his targeted "audience" uses... It would appear that while most of the XP stuff got re-introduced into the tree successfully, the same wasn't true for Vista , at least where St52's visual aspects (on that OS) are concerned; St52 sports the Australis GUI, OTOH NM28 inherits visual code from a pre-Australis era, and I can confirm that Aero Glass works as intended in NM28 under Vista... A similar issue exists for Serpent 55 under Vista ; initial ports of the ill-fated upstream application Basilisk55/moebius would be fully compatible with Vista's Aero, but at later stage (when St55 became a roytam1 "exclusive"), porting code from forked-UXP and other, XP-exclusive, third party repos BROKE Aero (and Widevine CDM, for that matter) on St55/Vista ... It's worth noting that Aero Glass works fine for both St52/55 on Win7, so it's only the Vista side of it that's currently broken on these browsers... I, and several other, Vista users had reported at the time (and, on occasion, at later instances ) the visual shortcomings of St52/55 under Vista, but, as time went by, these remained without being addressed ; I grew to live with them ; after all, what can one do when one isn't a Mozilla browser coder ? These threads were living previously on an XP-specific MSFN subforum, mentioning Vista there always made me feel like walking on thin ice ... TL:DR: Roy Tam doesn't have a Vista OS (VM?) to debug this; given Vista's low popularity/user base, especially among the forked-UXP apps crowd, this "issue" (non-existent under XP, which doesn't support Aero, ofc) has silently become a WONTFIX for us, Vista luddites ... FWIW, I'm using a self-patched version of the "upstream" Photonic complete theme on Serpent 52 (the theme ONLY supports official Basilisk/PM on Win7+), that gives me a good approximation of Aero under Vista: Greetings ...

  6. @VistaLover Do you have any more in-depth information on the startup cache in Firefox-based browsers or links to corresponding documents? I can't seem to find anything like that. You know your way around the Mozilla pages better.

  8. I'm not planning to create a discord account, at least for now. But thanks for letting me know. I lost hope, it won't happen. Though, a small glimpse of hope still exists. At least with the new filtering system software that seem to have been finally implemented on MSFN against bots/fake posters/spammers. You mean, like this specimen, for example? https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/issues/215#issuecomment-1918460518

  9. The only solution for now is to run with dark theme flags. Besides, Supermium supports Aero, so what else is needed? Though, I wonder if there will be a customisation UI in the future. Like the one on Cent Browser. --force-dark-mode --enable-features=WebContentsForceDark Without quotes or spaces!

  10. Yep, I was thinking the same, looks like win32 don't respond here anymore, seems like he moved to github completely. Could be due to the reason of not so warm and unfriendly posts we can all observe here. Generally, the atmosphere is not very welcoming, to say the least. All those unneeded comparisons and endless talks about chinese knock-offs...

  11. Then it's advisable to articulate what is it exactly you want the developer to do. Write only the technical details, without additional, emotional soap, then tag win32 so he could check the request. Obviously, tag only when it's really needed. Thanks. Don't forget to include pics of how you want it to be. The same is when reporting issues. Example. https://msfn.org/board/topic/185045-supermium/?do=findComment&comment=1259636

  13. I was joking, but not much. Seriously, I don't think that such a bracket actually exist as "standard", but essentially it is a small piece of metal sheet that can be fabricated easily with a minimum amount of tools at home, AFAIK half-height brackets are just the sane, the bottom part (and holes for ports) are in the same position, it is the top that is shorter, i.e. - reversed - this non-existing adapter from half height to full: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1108047-low-profile-bracket-adapters/ exemplifies the point. The tricky part is making the holes for the square/rectangular (e-sata in your case) ports, what I do when doing any of my half-@§§ed mods is to cut away the bent part at the top of the original bracket, drill a couple of holes and bolt the bracket to a suitable hand made bracket, with larger (and not-so-accurate) holes for the ports/connectors. Now, only for the fun of it, would you believe that a site: http://www.bracket.com/ exists? jaclaz

  16. For those who may think this thread is visited regularly by win32, I just want to remind them that this thread was created and owned by Dibya, and that the first and only time win32 participated in it was in september 2023 (first page), about right before an apparently very sensitive to brightness participant complained about "excessive brightness", something only one other participant in this thread has complained about. For them: try dark mode/dark ui flags, they work flawlessly and, as the whole supermium package, for free.

  18. Hello AstroSkipper, I didn't try to imply it's related to a specific browser. In one of my posts regarding this never existed for me issue, I merely pointed out to what it was posted from. roytam1 reported the issue again, on Sunday, (Monday?) Not sure about his local time. https://msfn.org/board/topic/185994-cant-edit-my-first-post-in-thread/?do=findComment&comment=1259650

  19. Yes, it's indeed the card I bought in 2018 (but it was even cheaper), I think it's the cheapest option, as of now. The only difference, in mine they got the usual caps replaced with ceramics.

  23. Not totally, you can still come across him on Discord from time to time. The atmosphere is healthier there, and after all, well... sorry guys, but someone have to opens it (and nobody wants to, so I'll take the job and wear the hat of "the bad one" that ruins the mood) and seriously say it: some conflicts we can read on that forum are more similar to quarrels between schoolchildren than real dialogs between responsible adults, so I think that win32 is somewhat right to avoid such places, focus on his work and dialoging with others on more peaceful/serious-looking* places. We're mature people (at least, I hope), so I think we all can discuss in a better atmosphere, and express their disagreements as adults with adult-like wordings. Nevertheless, on a in-topic and more positive note: A message he posted on Discord a few hours ago mentions the beginning of early experiments with Windows 2000 while he's waiting for people to try to replicate the remaining freezes in Windows 7 in order to fix them. * DISCLAIMER: I do not put in cause the serious of some people here, don't make me say what I didn't say. I respect the work some may have and will done here. Also I don't focus anyone, after all we're all responsible about what we say on the Internet.

  29. @win32 Supermium error "The data area passed to a system call is too small", this happens each time when I add my usual amount of flags. The message comes from Supermium's executable. Sometimes it simply won't start, unless I reduce the flags amount. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/explorerexe-error-the-data-area-passed-to-a-system/aed7b89e-0fc3-4f2b-b354-2c3898e93eeb

  32. The reason why I investigated the restart behaviour of these browsers is that I have created various restart custom buttons (JavaScript) for Firefox-based browsers in the past and currently have made one that performed a normal restart when left-clicked and additionally deletes the startup cache when middle-clicked. I also extracted the restart code, which is used by New Moon 28, from its source code and had a look at it. But somehow I get the feeling that manually deleting the startup cache is not really necessary any longer, as the browser seems to do this on its own in most cases when restarting it.
    1 point
  33. @roytam1 I have investigated the restart behaviour of New Moon 28 (and Serpent 52, too). I have started the browser many times and observed the startup cache. I noticed that very often or in most cases the startup cache was cleared automatically without any additional commands. Do you have more information about this? Is this normal? I thought that this cache is only deleted in special cases or triggered by the user, manually or by the command line option -purgecaches, for example.

  40. Windows 95, 98, and probably ME (CD-ROM versions) come with a program called "Poledit (policy editor)". You could look into that, and see if it does what you need. Warning, do not run it on "your" user account. Run in on the account you wish to restrict. If you run it on your account, you could end up restricting access that you need. Here is a link describing use of the Policy Editor.
