  1. A new topic by AstroSkipper that begins with a list might be an excellent idea! There has been some good discussion in this thread, but let’s face it: Nobody is going to read 48 pages. The download link for Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2 in the list for Vista still works, and that version also supported XP. Edit: Discussion below demonstrates that 7.4.2 did not support XP, and only an old database is available for Vista.

  3. ... Still, someone on XP will have to verify whether v7.4.2 does launch there (and was hoping you'd be the one ...) ; and just because it did download the 2022-10-10.1 (cloud) database in my Vista SP2 32-bit machine, it doesn't necessarily mean it will do so under XP; AFAICT, the app uses Windows' native APIs to connect to its (cloud) server; my Vista OS has WS2008 updates installed, which gave it TLS v1.1+v1.2 support, plus associated cipher suites that are not present even in a POSReady updated XP machine... As always, "the proof is in the pudding" ...

  4. Found the name for the popular JavaScript class functionality, one of the UXP killers, as seems to be the definition of the common MSFNer. Now, I forgot how common MCP developer refers to it, but we could call this one C++ism. Public class fields

  5. This article below by MB: https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039579393-Windows-XP-and-Vista-compatibility-with-Malwarebytes-AdwCleaner hints that "Versions before 8.0 may still work on a Windows XP", emphasis (mine ) put on "may"... FWIW, I have local records kept that indicate that the XP_EoS version of Malwarebytes AdwCleaner is/was v6.047 : There doesn't exist a GUI button to update the "database", only an "option" to use the "local" or the "server" one: I did perform a quick scan with the default setting of "server"; I had to open the log file to, sadly, find out that only the extremely outdated "local" database was used for the scan: # AdwCleaner v6.047 - Logfile created 26/04/2023 at 00:25:03 # Updated on 19/05/2017 by Malwarebytes # Database : 2017-05-19.1 [Local] # Operating System : Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Service Pack 2 (X86) # Username : (redacted) # Running from : (redacted)\adwcleaner_6.047[XPEOL].exe # Mode: Scan # Support : https://www.malwarebytes.com/support I don't have an XP machine available currently to check whether v7.4.2 does, indeed, launch there ; that version does launch under Vista SP2 x86 - incidentally, it offers to update the app to v8.4.0, but that offer should be declined, as (consistent with the article I linked above) that one doesn't launch under Vista (so why offer it in the first place? ) ... Like its predecessor, v7.4.2 has a default setting of "Automatically using the cloud database if available": I performed a second scan with v7.4.2, its log file now reads that it used a "database" from Oct 10th 2022, i.e. a stale one from 6 1/2 months ago (!) : # ------------------------------- # Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 # ------------------------------- # Build: 10-21-2019 # Database: 2022-10-10.1 (Cloud) # Support: https://www.malwarebytes.com/support # # ------------------------------- # Mode: Scan # ------------------------------- # Start: 04-26-2023 # Duration: 00:00:35 # OS: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium # Scanned: 32074 So, I don't know what to make of that , certainly can't answer whether that is considered as "definitions still provided for it" ; "use at your own risk" would be my advice ...

  6. ok, I delete the list and leave the link. My interest was to get a list by editing that one.

  7. This thread is about antivirus programs targeting Windows XP SP3 only. Posting a list of antivirus programs targeting Windows Vista is not really helpful and rather misleading. There are a lot of versions inside this list which won't work under Windows XP SP3. Anyway!I know this list but it doesn't belong here. At least, you should change the headline to "AntiVirus & Security Software for Windows Vista". To answer your question, Malwarebytes Free v3.5.1 should serve perfectly your needs. I use Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 under Windows XP. It is the last version for Windows XP but still receives definition updates. Its detection rate is very good. Only the premium version has a background guard.

  8. I am looking for an antispyware type "adwcleaner", do you recommend any? I have downloaded Zemana which claims to be compatible with XP but it really doesn't seem to be. https://zemana.com/us/antimalware.html There is a list for Windows Vista, maybe for XP it will be similar

  11. WinNTSetup - a simple but powerful universal Windows Installer Features: Install (unattend) Windows 2k/XP/20??/Vista/7/8.x/10/11 x86/x64/arm64 Practically runs even on the most minimalistic WinPE selectable drive letter for the new Windows installation Fully automated with save/load setting in ini file and various command line options Install Windows also if nlite/vlite has remove winnt32.exe/setup.exe Integrate Drivers: normal PNP and Textmode Drivers Patch uxtheme to allow unsigned Themes Some common registry tweaks and *.reg file import DISM APPX removal, feature enable/disable Simple VHD creation and Installation Support "Windows to Go" for Windows 7 and later installs Supports WimBoot and CompactOS option for Windows 7 and later Supports all current WIM files: WIM/SWM/ESD and ISO files WinCapture - capture a Windows installation to WIM or ESD file MinWin - simple trimming WIM in memory before apply WinCopy - copy an existing Windows installation to another partition Offline Hotfix uninstall Offline password reset Not Supported: - No Windows embedded version (this includes WinFLP) - No upgrades of existing installations About driver installation: Every driver added in NT6.x windows will be added to the driver store. So it's not recommended to add countless driver, but rather more really required ones. NT5.x massstorage driver integration is possible thanks to Mr dUSHA powerful MSSTMake.exe tool To the Unattend option: It's possible to use an unattend.xml to run the Setup unattended. But as the actual WinPE Setup Phase isn't effective in that way of install, all Winpe related settings inside the unattend.xml won't be applied. Ini config file It's possible to save all GUI-settings to a ini file: push Ctrl + S to save all settings to an ini. push Ctrl + L to load all settings from an ini. A WinNTSetup.ini file in the same dir as the app itself will be loaded automatically at startup. It also can be selected via command line: WinNTSetup.exe /cfg:"C:\mysettings.ini" Command line: - Press F1 to get list of all options To install Windows in a VHD file: - requires Windows 7 as OS and Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise or Server 2008 R2 as Source - create a partitioned VHD and assign a drive letter (push Ctrl + Shift + V to use build in diskpart wrapper for this) - select the VHD drive as installation drive (make sure you boot drive ist a active primary partition on a physical disk) If you get an Antivirus warning from your AV software, please report it to them as a false positive and let them check it. 12. Yep, you're right! The proof is in the pudding. When I wrote my comment, I was on my couch using an Android tablet. Now, I am back at my Windows XP desktop computer. Although stated as XP-compatible on their website, Malwarebytes AdwCleaner 7.4.2.0 is unfortunately not compatible with Windows XP anymore. It can't be installed.

  13. Ah, read as to "why" it's deleted. I say yeah, delete Firefox's also. Perhaps "delete" isn't the correct word - edit it for release dates but axe the "changelog". Changelogs should be a developer's website, not taking up space on a public resource. Just my two cents.

  14. AFAIAA, unfortunately not. But the last months, I have presented some different antivirus or antimalware programs here in the thread and disseminated information about them, all still working under Windows XP.

  15. Ghetto fix that works for XP is to download the games on an external drive, and then hook that drive up to an old version of Steam running on XP. This will probably happen with 7 if Steam changes the way their CDN works again. Alternatively, you can try Steam emulators from certain forums that are made to support XP (this leans into the territory of warez, which NoCD patches are certainly a thing and are responsible for things like Elden Ring on Windows 7/8 but I won't share any links). I'll try both when I get the chance. I really want to play Sven Co-op on my XP gaming machine.

  16. "Not my problem", lol. Like I have to tell my brother each and every time he sends me a Twitter, Facebook, or Tik-Tok link - they are blocked on my system "without prejudice". But blocking "Google Trends" is like blocking MSN's "news feed", IMO. Point is, don't all search engines have a "trends" page?

  17. https://aka.ms/AAkad6m (Insider users only) Why is this important? Microsoft does have a first-party solution for customizing the UI of Microsoft Windows: .msstyles (patent no. US7565611). Most of the .msstyles files found on the internet are created using third-party tools such as msstyleEditor by nptr. Unfortunately though, these themes are usually unsigned or not signed properly and require a third-party patcher to work. Microsoft's Theme Packager is the only software that can generate proper .msstyles files that are signed. It can even sign existing .msstyles files which is a nice relief for the .msstyles community. However, Microsoft kept this tool a secret for over 15 years, nowhere to be found on Microsoft's website. If Microsoft were to release this tool now, that would be a massive improvement for the .msstyles community.

  19. Someone might want to test Slimjet 39.0 Beta based on Chromium 110. Either it still supports Windows 7 or they need to revise documentation.

  20. Alder Lake works perfect on Windows 7, you need a processor with F (no integrated graphics), a dedicated graphics card (preferably 10 series and below), a ps2 mouse, and a dedicated wifi/ethernet card. I am doing the test on an Asus B660-M A Prime. I think even Windows Vista SP2 is possible.
