  2. Oh ... lMAO!! This is too funny, either way, all in good fun. Good grief, I'm really out of touch, it seems. Had never even heard of that dating site. I was on a dating site back around 2006 (I think) and left and never even considered such, very reclusive and private nowadays. Besides nobody wants to date a poor old dude, lots of gold diggers out there. Hahahaha......;) Gosh, while I feel a tad embarrassed that I didn't know that, this whole things cracked me up this morning, was/is needed, actually to lift mood. Thanks guys

  4. Please STOP referring to 360Chrome as "outdated". It is intended for an audience that DOES NOT CARE about having up-to-the-second "updated" web browser or even OS for that matter. There are a thousand reasons that I could list as to why I remain on XP. This thread was NEVER intended to be a "debate" on what hardware or OS we run! If your level of "required updates" requires you to run Win11, then go out and get Win11 and STOP expecting TOO MUCH from an "NT-Family OS / Browser". If your threshold for "unsecure" and "outdated" hardware is the same as MOST readers of this thread, then 360Chrome will solve 90% of your browser-related issues. But to think that ANY of the browsers here at MSFN will work on 100% of "modern" web sites is UNREALISTIC and that "debate" is not the intent of this thread - ie, "Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes".

  6. Hello @D.Draker! It's not really a torture to use my old computer. Yes, this machine is slow and low on system resources, but very stable and reliable. A computer that has grown older with me and has never let me down despite unbelievable disasters. It would be difficult for me to send it to retirement. Every screw, modification or repair was done by me personally. I know this machine inside out. Now do you understand what the problem is? And, of course, your machine you descibed above is time-period correct for running Windows XP!

  18. Compared to the browsers of @roytam1 or Mypal 68, the 360Chrome browsers are unfortunately very slow and sluggish. In my system, I can only open three pages in the version v11 at the most, and then nothing works anymore. Only endless loading and waiting is the order of the day. And not to mention v13 and v13.5! Sorry, no fun at all! Using only one page in v11 is still bearable and works if it is not programmed too "modern" and too Googlized. I use 360Chrome v11 only for comparison if there are problem with Googlized websites.

  20. Glad to be of help ! I'm not rich either. These days everything is so expensive and salaries aren't good. I wish it was 80's or 90's now. Anyways, golddiggers are actually good ! You could use them and throw out . You don't have to be rich to date a golddigger . Many are stupid , btw. But the opportunities are quite good , esp. when you want to date someone 20-30 years younger. I don't even remember when I dated someone my age . And I really miss the times when dating sites were popular ! It was much easier to find someone much younger from another (less expensive provincial) rural city . And they were very happy to come to me ! Like very-very happy .

  22. And, I really need some computer glasses. In the next weeks, I will build a more recent desktop machine, but presumably, without Windows XP. Much more recent hardware means more recent OS. And, you know, I am a Windows XP fan or enthusiast. Do you understand my next problem? And, on this more recent machine with an actually not wanted, but needed, more recent OS, there will be only browsers I can trust, i.e., no Chinese or Russian one. PS: There is one advantage of my old machine to more recent ones. It is easy to identify software that consumes an incredible amount of system resources. For me, this kind of stuff is just bad programming!

  24. roytam1, you once changed the 4k texture limit to 2k. This enabled hardware acceleration on the radeon X700-X1250. Please tell me again where is this place in the browser code, Feodor2 in MyPal68 seems to have lost it. And could you experimentally reduce the value to 1k ? The driver Chell 1.7b (or 1.8b for Win7) for GMA 950 - 3150 adds support 2.0b shaders, but browser acceleration is still not work.

  25. Unfortunately, I really had a little "either" problem. Your example is absolutely correct. But I forgot an important rule. The word "either" is only used in your example sentence if it is preceded by a negative. In non-negative sentences, the adverbs "too" or "also" are used. The position of this adverb was not the subject of our little grammatical excursus. Here is an example for my grammatical error:
    1 point
  26. I don't know what they told you , but you didn't have "a problem with either". It can be used at the end of a sentence . Look at oxford international. "This is a good restaurant, it’s not expensive either." Just like I told you . https://www.oxfordinternationalenglish.com/neither-or-either-whats-the-difference/

  27. You'll probably want to make sure that the Blackscreen is actually a 2GB ram issue. Otherwise, you could end up with the problem returning later. Though, it might be the problem. If it isn't, the problem may not show up again, possibly relating only to setup. If for the install you cannot "Physically" or thru "Bios" reduce the memory to 512MB of ram, you can place the harddrive in a different PC. Then finish the setup, configure or patch WinME with boot to dos option, unzip Rloew's Patchmem somewhere, boot to dos, and then run the patch. At that point you can return the harddrive to the 2GB machine. Allow it to boot and configure itself to the new hardware . If the memory patch is overwritten, during some update, boot to dos and run the patch again. You can also use Virtualbox, but then you need to decide how to transfer the system to the physical harddrive. With one method, you could zip the entire drive, preserving file attributes and ensuring hidden files copy. Make a pendrive WinME Dos bootable, copy the zipped system and a unzipping program to the same pendrive, boot the 2GB machine with the pendrive, unzip the system to the harddrive, and then run "sys c:" (C: will actually probably need to be D:). You would have to decide how you would get the file from the VirtualBox disk image. Maybe mount the disk image and copy the file, FTP transfer, http upload, install VirtualBox Guest Extentions(mapped network drive), or over VirtualBox usb -> Pendrive. I think some decompression programs extract ISO's and certian disk images. I don't know if I would recommend setting up any drivers, while in virtual box. USB could be pesky, when transferring to another system. If you use "vboxmanage" you can convert the disk image to other formats. You could then use a system clone/rescue boot CD/USB and clone/restore the image to the physical harddrive. You just have to make sure the image is converted to a type supported by the restore system. Depending on the restore method used, you might have to use some kind of partition tool (Live Gparted maybe?) so that you can expand the partition to the actual size of the harddrive. I have never tried this, but there are dos programs to create a ramdrive. Maybe you could make a 1.5GB ramdrive from Autoexec.bat. There are also programs that just fill the ram. Maybe then Windows would let you continue, since it can only make use of 512MB. This method would require that you install a prior Windows Dos, then copy the WinME setup files, and run them from the harddrive. There are more ways. Maybe easier ways. These are just some of the ones I've more recently used, over the last six months. However, not for WinME. I haven't installed that, since the first time I ever installed it. And that was back when it's stock IE stilled worked fine, for everything.

  29. A PC made in, let's say, 2006-07 would also be a valid/legit/correct for XP, no ? I still have a Siemens PC made in Feb. 2007 and it has a sticker with XP serial number on it . It was sold like that with XP factory pre-installed. It has Nvidia 8800 GTS card , 4GB DDR2 RAM , G31 board with a Q6600 CPU and 500GB HDD, all original. Was an expensive son of a gun, lol . 2000 Euro or even more , I don't remember exactly now. So if I was an XP fan, I wouldn't torture myself with that Pentium, but that's just me , and again , it's none of my business. I understand it could have a nostalgic value.

  30. Plenty of Fish was (still is ? Don't know , I left it in 2010 or so) a popular Canadian social network and dating service, initially designed primarily for the English users from Canada, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and United States. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia operated since 2003. Later they added Germany, France and some unwanted countries, but one could easily choose the options to block out certain areas/countries completely ! Cool ! I'd really like to have this option here too ! EDIT: I think lately they went to *dating service only* , and mostly paid . Though one could still select "friendship" , "pen-pal" , etc. I mean, besides one-night-stand with no strings attached and marriage or dating.

  39. Description of of a time-period correct computer running Windows XP owned by an infamous Frisian (I also have others but not running Windows XP). My Windows XP computer is equipped with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Northwood single core CPU and only 1.5 GB SD-RAM. and can't be upgraded anymore due to the motherbord's layout. No SSD, no SATA but IDE hard disks, and the graphic card is NVIDIA 6200 AGP 4x. A more recent desktop computer will be built by me in the next weeks. At the moment, no time to do that! Anyway, presumably, no hardware for running MiniBrowser without getting more grey hair than I already have! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  40. Well Portuguese literature (among many actual masterpieces) originated the immortal "English as she is spoke": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_as_She_Is_Spoke and - though not proved - we might have been deprived of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Hungarian_Phrasebook particularly, the very common and useful sentence "My hovercraft is full of eels." would probably have never been coined, and "Please fondle my buttocks" would have been far less used. jaclaz
