  1. No. Windows 10 is a mess. Version 1809 is just the tip of the crapberg.

  2. No, it isn't, or, if you prefer, it only happens on the vast majority of systems, but not necessarily on all of them. The booting PE has been documented to in some cases to detect disks in a different order from BIOS, and of course another number of factors may be involved, like the exact way the disk is partitioned (before or during the install) and the exact way the OS is installed (via normal setup, third party automated tools, dism apply, etc., etc.). Since it costs nothing at install times to disconnect the "other" disks it represent a foolproof way to make sure it doesn't happen. jaclaz

  4. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire CPU warming when you are cold... Windows Update running with the shield and localised updates even for the Eskimos... Everybody knows, .NET Framework and a few patch more help to make the season bright. Tiny patches, with their green check-marks all aglow will be deployed within tonight" (I just got into Christmas Mode xD)

  5. There's the main difference. Every Windows version since 2000 (I think) has 2 main branches of updates: GDR and LDR. If you install an update normally, you default into the GDR branch, meant for general security and feature updates. If you install certain hotfixes, you're bumped into the LDR branch. This is best noted in file versions. If you're on the GDR branch, the updated files will have 6.1.6002.1xxxx version while if you're on the LDR branch the updated files will have 6.1.6002.2xxxx version. In this case, ever since the release of Windows 8.1 MS decided to kill this update approach, and as such, all updates released since around 2016 only come in the LDR flavor. Since you have the post EOL updates installed on your Vista machine, one of those updated Windows Media Player into the LDR version. If you want more info, MS made a few blog posts explaining in greater detail what I've just said: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mrsnrub/2009/05/14/gdr-qfe-ldr-wth/

  6. Wasn't going to really say anything about this reply....just find it hard to believe that some people are so naive to think that Microsoft are actually trying to improve by telemetry updates..... No....perhaps not but Microsoft are more willing to over step the boundaries of what is in the user's best interests.... are we really saving settings...private information....just to improve the user's experience?! Microsoft hide behind contracts that have been written by so called top law firms to protect their stupid arseses when they get caught....What Microsoft do is no better than the American government thinking it is OK to "spy" on everyone in the name of national security.....sorry, just no respect for a company whose employees seem to do what they like and think it is ok? I am of course refering to the so called support rep for Microsoft that was helping me with a customer computer and while connected to it did whatever she thought ok to fix the problem...including surfing dubious sites to get help to fix the problem.....

  7. Yes, flash is excellent in Firefox. I still use Flash for Youtube. But I'm referring to canvas acceleration. That benchmark I posted used to get 60+ FPS on old Firefox versions... They disabled DirectX9 support on some version. Would be great if it could be re-enabled in XP. Surprising no one has brought this up.

  8. You probably cannot do anything about it. I've studied shell32.dll code and there seems to be a bug in AutoColorization feature, so I must create some workaround.

  9. And you want to call this something that is positive....?!! Microsoft couldn't resolve a p***** in a brewery....so us sending them information via telemetry isn't going to improve the situation....God I have seen some crap in my time since this Windows 10 crap came out but the telemetry is just for spying on us and if it resolved issues why are there so many problems.....3rd party software....? a lot of the problems we have now is because Microsoft in its so called wisdom wants you to let them look after drivers for hardware etc....and then the computer just dies....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. @filth - Please set IDA to Win2000 mode or higher. GDI32.DLL:GetCharABCWidthsI is no longer enabled in BASE mode. Testers, remember to check CORE.INI and KTree when a regression appears. @Dibya - Install 98se, then: 1) install Kernelex 4.5.2 choosing Disable by default 2) copy KernelEx folder to K45_2016. (DOS 8.3 name) 3) extract Core Update 4.5.2016. files to K45_2016. folder 4) exit to DOS 5) rename KernelEx folder to K45_0002 6) rename K45_2016. folder to KernelEx 7) reboot

  11. I am unpinning this topic as it should be fixed now in the latest release. Keys are now generated regardless the HyperV flag and both HyperV on and off keys are accepted.
