  1. Just running the proxy in the background doesn't mean it is also used by a programme. What I meant is whether you're running ProxHTTPSProxy system-wide or not. In any case, Panda Dome has to use the proxy. Thats why I had to configure Panda Dome to use it, however, for activation only.

As for the installer of version 14.29.30139.0 referenced in the "community.pcgamingwiki.com" site, this has the direct link below (courtesy of abbodi1406): https://download.visualstudio.microsoft.com/download/pr/b929b7fe-5c89-4553-9abe-6324631dcc3a/4C6C420CF4CBF2C9C9ED476E96580AE92A97B2822C21329A2E49E8439AC5AD30/VC_redist.x86.exe but it is only SHA256-signed, so I'm not sure if its signature can be verified under XP SP3 : Just my 2c ...

  3. As far as I noticed, Panda seems to automatically update the programme only if it is too old. The version 21.01.00 wasn't updated on my system. OTH, the version 18.07.04 was updated to 20.02.01 which, however, isn't the most recent.

  4. I asked that as the most recent version of Panda Dome is actually 23.00.00.

  5. Are you running ProxHTTPSProxy in the background by default? And if so, in which mode? I had to configure Panda Dome to use the proxy. Which version is your Panda Dome Essential of?
    2 points
  6. Of course, I know. Did you also have to use ProxHTTPSProxy for the activation of Panda Dome?

  7. @nicolaasjan I have attempted to make compatible 64-bit OpenSSL shared libraries using MSYS2. If you would like to test them.

  8. Well I certainly didn't have to do anything special, it just worked, but I guess it wouldn't have done without the proxy being there. I've now upgraded to Panda Dome Essential, and finally uninstalled Malwarebytes! I was almost sad to see it go, but as it hadn't been receiving any updates for more than a year, I guess it was time. All looking good so far.

  9. Well I don't need a firewall or VPN either, but I would like to have website malware scanning, as Malwarebytes has always provided. I will try the Essentials version I think, it's not expensive. I do have ProxHTTPSProxy of course BTW, as you well know!

  10. I think for a free version Panda Dome is ok. If it is running correctly, the impact is low on RAM and CPU compared with Avast or other security suites in the past. And once again, it is free of charge in the basic version. BTW, I do not need a firewall or VPN. I have already been using the best firewall, Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP. And I have several paid VPN services.

  12. Getting back to Panda Dome, I was slightly disappointed to find that it's an online cloud scanner, not something with works locally. However, for something which is supposedly lightweight, it seems to have installed a lot of things on the machine! When I ran the installer, I was offered to tick an 'offline installation' option. This I did, thinking it would be a good idea. When I checked after installation, there seemed to be three new services added 'Panda Cloud Antivirus Service', 'Panda Devices Agent', and 'Panda Product Services'. So far, so good. What I then found though was that there were now no less than 19 (!) new .sys driver files in the System32\Drivers folder. All relating to Panda Dome. What they all do, I do not know. I'm now wondering if they are something to do with the 'offline installation' option, and they're something to do with keeping the protection working if the machine is offline. The other thing which disappointed me is that there seems to be no automatic scheduled scanning option, which I've always used on Malwarebytes. Perhaps it's in one of the paid versions, I will have to investigate.

  13. I recently came across: Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2015-2019 for Windows XP. I posted about it with a link in the 'OpenSSL for Windows XP' thread. I don't fully understand the 'OpenSSL' idea but doing a search I came across this version of Microsoft Visual C++. Is this version of any use here? It did install on my Windows XP setup. Everything below is from the link. Microsoft Visual C++ Redist 2015-2019 for Windows XP Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 v16.7 Redistributable v14.27.29114 XP https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2883-microsoft-visual-c-redist-2015-2019-for-windows-xp/ About This File: This is the official installer for Visual C++ Redist 2015-2019 downloaded directly from Microsoft's website. This version is the last one to support Windows XP, even though Microsoft links to an older version. There was never a 2015-2022 redistributable installer for Windows XP. This is intended for Windows XP since that Operating System is good for older games and EAX support. This will ensure the latest redistributable is installed on the system for those games to use. Zip file contains installers for x86, x64, and arm64 systems. Just run the one you need. For x64 systems install both x86 and x64. What's New in Version 14.29.30139 Released March 22, 2024 Provided a newer version than what the Microsoft website linked to by default, I have confirmed it installable on Windows XP. Previous version can still be downloaded just in case. ...

  15. First of all, thanks for uploading the files! I was surprised to learn that there is supposed to be a .NET Framework version 4.0.30320 for Windows XP. I couldn't find anything about it in any official source. In any case, your installer "Microsoft .NET 4.0.30320 Full" is the same one I have, and it has the number 4.0.30319.1. Presumably, at least for Windows XP, there is no version 4.0.30320. You can find out your current version installed with the following command: reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full" /v Version The MS Visual C++ 2010 SP1 (10.0.40219.473) installer is indeed the last one you can still get from Microsoft or from abbodi1406. I will try later. In any case, thanks again!

  16. Hey everyone, happy new year. I just tested the latest beta version of Microsoft 365 on Windows 8.1 (v2602) and it still works although EOL was 2301! v2602 will be the last "official" version for Windows Server 2016/LTSB 2016 imgur.com/a/ZFUPSUH

  17. Admins don't care. The numbers are meaningless so there is no need for them to care. That doesn't mean we are not allowed to discuss them. And think about it. We have members that are no longer here FOR A REASON. None of us know that reason. None of us need to know. The problem arises because we have members that "believe" in the numbers, BRAG about them PUBLICLY, and cite them CONSTANTLY as if they "do" mean something, as if they are "real". THAT is the real problem. Bottom line is this, this thread is here to discuss "numbers" being shown on this web site. We have done that. The smart people here can believe what they want. The not-as-smart can believe what they want. To be honest, no skin off my back either way. Reality is this, the *fake* numbers are a result of people with nothing better to do logging in daily, tracking down EVERY post by three different members, and hitting the "like" button. THEY RAN OUT OF POSTS TO CLICK "LIKE". THAT IS WHY D.DRAKER FELL OFF THE LEADERBOARD. Again, believe what you want, be blind to what you want, makes no difference to me. I have stated my case, I have *FACTS* to back it up. Our "numbers" are MEANINGLESS, admins admit that, I have informed as to WHY they are MEANINGLESS and HOW they were MANIPULATED. I cannot be banned for speaking the truth. Report me as a "thorn" all you want. I have made my case and I can 'move on' now. Dot Org. Waka waka waka.

  18. Not sure if this will improve the situation or not (maybe you solved it already?), but you could try using other builds of GTK+2. Pidgin does offer a package without GTK. Even if the builds are newer, they may have been built with different build environments and configurations. But, it should be noted that running with a global set of GTK dlls can be irritating (if you need more than one set of Global GTK dll versions). OTOH, building Pidgen and GTK+2 with a different build environment and config could also solve the issue. I think Mingw32 has flags to set the max winver to support during compile (I believe there was two required). I'm guessing an old Mingw32 and Msys would work (still on sourceforge); probably shouldn't need Cgywin's userland). The source documentation may provide a hint. There are times when setting the max winver flags can bork the build, if the code explicitly asks for something. But, GTK is less likely to cause an issue there. And from the looks of this issue, Pidgen probably wouldn't either, or it could be an easy fix. Maybe of interest, this guy tested some different win32 GCC versions, and TDM-GCC may also be an option. You can find userland (msys) included versions of Mingw and TDM-GCC floating around on the net. Its harder to find, but there are fully bundled versions of Cgywin floating around, too (more useful for the usreland). Don't have my old GTK+2 builds around anymore. Kept GTK+1.3 only, it seems. But that doesn't mean someone else's builds couldn't improve the situation. Maybe here or here? You can also check on "mmnt dot ru slash int". Search gtk+ and then within results something like win32.

  19. Somehow it just stopped asking for updates , the issue resolved , thanks again !

  20. It is quite unpredictable . Usually it pops up right at the start of the programme. I do not have this line at all . I only have "UpdateCheckingPeriod" with only one digit available, so it seems they don't want me to disable it completely , only to change the period . This is with 7.3.1 , yes , as I told earlier I made a frankensteined version with the main .exe being 7.3.1 . I searched all lines with the word "update" , opened in Hex , nothing even remotely similar.

  21. This is really strange because I trust this experienced user @UCyborg . He just helped me with Riva Tuner on Vista . What is their framework level ?
    1 point
  22. Would also be very good to find a standalone version installer (or portable) of Riva tuner without MSI. I know there's one inside , but I guess not everyone will figure that out. Is there a site with various older versions ? EDIT: Your version works with Vista , thank you lots ! If I don't bother you that much , perhaps you know how to switch OFF this stupid "cannot connect to update server". Of course I blocked it with the firewall , since I can't allow it to update (obviously). Switching off the update checker in the settings doesn't help . EDIT-2 : It really shows fps count only with *some* games , but no crashes like the OP described, so older versions are still needed. EDIT-3 : Quit showing FPS at all . If I look at the main window - it's just stuck at the highest monitor refresh rate. But in the games there is no FPS counter at all. EDIT-4 : Finally got this to work with Vista ! I had to frankenstein the hell outta the both versions . So nevermind , all is OK now. Thanks again for your help.

  23. Thank you , appreciated , will definitely try . And the OP might have a problem with his higher version of framework , like I suggested earlier.

  26. Totally agree with you . Though some time ago I literally saved a slow notebook with 4GB DDR2 667Mhz memory using a fast external HDD connected via eSATA. It was used for huge video files editing.

  27. I told ya it was RAM . You need to remove all and test with only one module inserted. BTW , RAM testing tools are not good in my opinion. I had a funny case when the guy that was checking my faulty RAM at the store had 100% good test results and then he just couldn't boot into windows ! I also remember some similar case when my DDR2 RAM module no. 1 developed a faulty sector after a couple weeks of usage in a brand new PC . As for the second hand items , never use them in a PC where you do something important . People just do not know how to handle such items , just don't . Most never heard of static electricity and UPS.
