Supermium 126.0.6478.261 R7 is now out, apparently the last 126 version. A 132 version is due in February. I don't think I will bother to update again until the 132 version is released.2 points

Many thanks again @j7n (and @nicolaasjan too!), indeed, that update (KB2533623 for kernel32.dll) fixed the specific problem of yt-dlp_win7.exe here (and probably some other issues that i hadn't discovered yet ). So, in case that Python 3.9 support of yt-dlp really would be dropped in october (god beware!), i'd be prepared ...2 points

I just tried that, TikTok doesn't allow to login from a VPN, only browsing, and only from a good VPN. So it's not a solution for many users. It's a trend, they all fight VPN to mine your data even more. Instagram does the same, and they don't allow to make an account from VPN, just like Tiktok.2 points

Dude, pls don't read and don't reply to my posts, if you think they're "BS". I was under the impression it's considered "Antagonistic and irrelevant". Not to mention, this comment of yours has zero value to the readers, China's political system is a fact, it doesn't require your agreement. Oh, and weren't you along with @Vistapocalypse, @legacyfan going to block me for the 263891369193 time?2 points

Good news! As already reported here, the patch + proxy method for accessing MU is still working. Checked in January 2025. And the Legacy Update service is also working. Checked in August 2024 which I reported in this post. Is anyone here using other methods? Referring to the list of all known methods for accessing MU, please report here if your favoured method is still working in today! This would be very interesting for all users of Windows XP. Thanks in advance! Cheers, AstroSkipper2 points

How's this relevant to the TikTik closure? I kinda suspect they will perform the ban through the IP.2 points

Just tested it in a Virtual Machine and manually installing the Server 2012 Updates up until October 2023 on Windows 8.0 without registry modifications to the Windows edition and without going through Windows Update still works fine ! https://postimg.cc/G965L5LQ1 point

@Joaquim You can use it "outside" of Windows. If you boot Win9x "NOGUI" to Dos only, you can then use Sbemu. If you boot "fully" to Windows Sbemu will not work. Sbemu does "not" provide audio for Windows. It can provide audio for Dos "before" Windows loads. So, you "can" use Sbemu on a machine that has Win9x installed on it (ME needs boot to Dos patch). Sbemu is "compatible" with Win9x "Dos". BUT, you will need to "configure" Dos to use Sbemu. You might need to read though https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=930061 point

After many years using MiniTool Partition Wizard, I recommend not using it. The program does not align the partitions when creating them, so when you press the align button, what it does is redesign the partitions, leaving gaps between them. On the other hand, I will comment that versions 11 and 12 (latest XP) do not work well and can cause data corruption. I recommend using Eassos DiskGenius. The last one I have tried is 5.5.0.1488 from 2023 and it works well with MBR on Windows XP. I use quite a few Seagate +2TiB disks with physical sector 4096 and the program reports it. Eassos DiskGenius allows you to choose the alignment when creating the partitions. You can choose 2048 or any other. I wonder what the problem is with choosing the 256 alignment. It doesn't seem to cause any problems with Windows XP's disk manager, unlike 2048. Always allow time for operations to finish in Eassos DiskGenius, it's not clear when they finish. Same when starting the program, wait for it to start properly before touching anything. The program also allows you to make a copy of the partition table to restore in case of failure.1 point

From what I'm reading the NTFS file system is limited to 32 bits, so the above limits cannot be exceeded in any case. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/ntfs-overview In theory the difference between MBR and GPT is that GPT is capable of redirecting 64 bytes of physical sectors. So it is possible to exceed 2 TiB by formatting with a cluster size of 4 kIB on a disk with 512 byte physical sectors. Which would also be possible on an MBR with 4096 byte physical sectors. I'm going to test my Toshiba 6 TB with 512 byte physical sectors in MBR.1 point

On the other hand, I have been testing the capabilities of the NTFS file system in Windows Seven x64 and I have found several important peculiarities. With any of these characteristics or perhaps the combination of both, the NTFS file system is limited to 32 bits with GPT hard disks. -BIOS legacy -IDE mode. -All Windows operating system 32 bits. I have tried to format a partition with cluster 512 bytes over 2 TiB from Windows Seven x64 and it results in an error "Windows cannot finish formatting". In theory GPT hard drives work with 64 bits unlike MBR. But the reality is that if you format it in UEFI systems over the cluster limits that I am going to point out the hard disk will work corrupting the data if it is set to: -BIOS legacy -IDE mode. -All Windows operating system 32 bits. I do not have a computer with UEFI system to verify that it is possible to format GPT with 64 bits. In any case I recommend not exceeding these cluster sizes in NTFS to maximize the compatibility of the GPT hard disk. If you have a computer with UEFI, please check if MiniTool Partition Wizard allows you to choose the format over these limits on Windows x64. The limit in the indicated systems is 32 bytes minus a few bytes. If you format a GPT or MBR partition with 2 TiB and cluster 512 bytes to NTFS the data will be corrupted. NTFS PARTITION LIMITS Cluster 0.5 KiB = 1.99 TiB / 2047.99 GiB / 2097151.99 MiB Cluster 1 KiB = 3.99 TiB / 4095.99 GiB / 4194303.99 MiB Cluster 2 KiB = 7.99 TiB / 8191.99 GiB / 8388607.99 MiB Cluster 4 KiB = 15.99 TiB / 16384.99 GiB / 16777215.99 MiB Cluster 8 KiB = 31.99 TiB / 32767.99 GiB / 33554431.99 MiB Cluster 16 KiB = 63.99 TiB / 65535.99 GiB / 67108863.98 MiB Cluster 32 KiB = 127.99 TiB / 131071.99 GiB / 134217727.96 MiB Cluster 64 KiB = 255.99 TiB / 262143.99 GiB / 268435455.93 MiB Cluster 128 KiB = 511.99 TiB / 524287.99 GiB / 536870911.87 MiB Cluster 256 KiB = 1023.99 TiB / 1048575.99 GiB / 1073741823.75 MiB ...and so on to cluster 32768 KiB = 131040.00 TiB *Values from cluster 2/4/8/16/32/64/128/256 KiB have been calculated by the previous amounts and I have not verified their correct operation. I have installed the patch to get +4 GiB RAM. I recommend my method B which has several renamed hals and allows alternatively to boot with the original XP hal in boot.ini. That is, the system is not modified, except for updating several drivers so that they are compatible with +4 GiB RAM as @Dibya points out. 1-After booting with the hal modified the first thing I found is that the PCI Express video card with chip Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE no longer limits the system to 2 GiB RAM, now I can use all the RAM available in Windows XP. 2-Acronis Disk Director has stopped working, I know they have a special system called "Extended Capacity" to handle +2TiB hard drives in Windows XP, but I don't know if it is present in this version or was discontinued in 2015. https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-home-forum-older-versions/cleanup-utility-and-extended-capacity?ckattempt=1 In any case Acronis installs a driver in Windows XP and the program has stopped working. I have to check if it also works on another computer, since even if I boot XP with the original hal it still doesn't work. 3- I'm testing the Toshiba 6Tb drive that has a 512-byte physical sector and the data is wrong after 1.4 TiB. I don't know what the problem is with this limit that several programs have already pointed out. Thank goodness @Andalu that you pointed them out, otherwise sooner or later I would have corrupted my data. The test has not finished yet. DO NOT USE GPT DRIVES WITH MODIFIED HALS TO GET +4 GiB RAM ON XP. The problem may also exist with any type of PAE or maybe the problem is with the drivers modified to work with +4 GiB RAM @Dibya1 point

Since you replied to @ItCoder, I assume that you are using his proxy server method for restoring MU/AU. Your image shows the error code 0x8024400A which is listed as SUS_E_PT_SOAPCLIENT_PARSE - failed in parsing response. This error can also be found in your uploaded WindowsUpdate.log. A very short research led to the following: The error 0x8024400A often occurs in connection with a Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). The reason for this may be that the WSUS configuration was not carried out correctly or the settings were not distributed correctly via the global group policy. Check the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate Additionally, you can use the WSUSClientDiagTool tool for checking your WSUS settings. BTW, I personally have never been using @ItCoder's proxy server method. Therefore, I can't say more about it. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

Which method are you referring to? The patch + proxy method uses the TLS 1.2 or TLS 1.3 ProxHTTPSProxy which is needed to connect to MU via Internet Explorer. The service Legacy Update provides their own client software which means no additional proxy is needed. Here is my report from August 2024 when testing the Legacy Update service: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183498-general-and-specific-solutions-for-problems-regarding-auwumu-in-windows-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1270925 One thing is clear. Today, most connections require at least the TLS 1.2 protocol. Please, first read about the methods before asking! All is described in detail.1 point

No problems here to access Microsoft Update under Windows XP from Germany when using the patch + proxy method. Maybe, your location is the problem due to any restrictions. If you need to check for system updates, try Legacy Update as it is easy to install.1 point

The latest versions of FF are not easily moddable anymore. They are now hardcoded to require internal Windows files only present on W10+ The last version that could easily be modded was 132. And there's also 128 ESR still. Alternatively there's also Redfox, which has released a modded 133 but 134 might need a little bit more time. https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/v133.0e1 point

China is much different because of its political system, which is forbidden to talk about here. The most out-rightly insulting crap is that they shove their "way of living" onto us. with the help of TikTok as their cyber weapon. I'm very sorry you don't understand. Why they forbid Google, for example? Tell me. And why we need their crap, if they forbid our stations?1 point

A quite legitimate question, which I have also asked myself time and again, is why you should still use MU/WU under Windows XP at all. There are no longer any new updates anyway. The answer is very simple. If you make any changes or retrofit components from Microsoft, it can happen that updates are available for these, which logically could not be installed before. I installed the Windows Media Encoder 9 a few days ago. After a search via MU, an update was actually found. In addition, MU also found a further missing update that was previously installed but is no longer available for whatever reason. It is therefore worth running a search via MU/WU from time to time.1 point

Today, I have installed Legacy Update 1.9 on my Windows XP Professional SP3 installation where POSReady updates have never been applied. It's just a pure Windows XP 32-bit. Due to the lack of POSReady updates, I decided to test Legacy Update in this XP installation. It was installed in seconds and calling up this service worked without any problems. It even offered to install root certificates and POSReady updates, which I didn't want and had to untick during the install process, though. The Windows Update search was performed in the Internet Explorer without any settings or actions by the user, and only few minutes later, it was done. Great service! I can definitely recommend it, especially to those who haven't use the POSReady hack. BTW, the result was the same I got in 2014 as all WU/MU updates have been installed at that time. I just wanted to be sure that no updates are missing.1 point

Big thanks to @daniel_k for discovering this method. Tools you'll need: A copy of Windows 8 Embedded Standard (MS is gracious enough to provide us with a download link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=37019) 7-Zip to make it easier to copy files from inside the install.wim This tutorial applies to both AMD64 and X86. Download all 3 parts of Standard_8_64Bit_Bootable_IBW if using 64 bit, or all 2 parts if using 32 bits, and open part 1 to extract the ISO. After this you should have Standard_8_64Bit_Bootable_IBW.iso or Standard_8_32Bit_Bootable_IBW.iso Open the ISO with 7-Zip and navigate to "sources/install.wim". Right click on the install.wim and select "Open inside". Inside the install.wim, go to "Windows/servicing/Packages" Here's where it differs for both architectures. For 64 bit copy the following files into a folder in your computer: For 32 bit copy the following files: Next go to "Windows/winsxs/Manifests" and... For 64 bit copy these files into the same folder you extracted the previous ones: For 32 bit copy these files: Now here's the interesting part. Open command prompt with Admin privileges and run: If using 64 bit: dism /online /add-package /packagepath:<path to folder>\Microsoft-Windows-Embedded-SKU-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.2.9200.16384.mum If using 32 bit: dism /online /add-package /packagepath:<path to folder>\Microsoft-Windows-Embedded-SKU-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.2.9200.16384.mum Reboot and install IE11 like you normally would. This time it will finish the installation and prompt you to reboot. After that, IE11 will be fully operational on your machine! Here's some pics of the results:1 point
