Ever heard of circumstantial evidence? That's exactly what all of those "canvas" are. Whereas the Unique ID is used to build a case. No judge will ever get that much into such side technical aspects. But he will take the dog tag as the main proof, don't be delusional.3 points

Well , I've finally found some time to test and compare , thanks for the programme , it's quite interesting . The results are : with XP the bandwith is approx. 25-30% lower than with Vista. It's strange because it actually tells that gen. 2.0 is used , but not to the maximum (with XP64).3 points

1 - Do not build high hopes for those newly developed custom made drivers , I just think it won't happen . Or they will be glitchy as hell . It would be much better to buy something from 700 (or 900 series, if you're okay with the absence of AA) and put it on the shelf for the future use . 2- Yeah , I got you the first time , about your Titan. BTW , I tried Titan Black , and I didn't like it , even though it's from the same series . The chip is different , the picture is not as good as the original. Also , it had troubles with idle mode with any drivers starting from 350.xx. Have you ever tried your Titan with Vista ? I tried mine with XP , the picture quality is good , chrystal clear and sharp . With windows 7 it's ugly . (Obviously not the Titans, but Windows 7's fault).3 points

@S75, @reboot12 : Most evil/satanic Google have got the upper hand now, it appears; you can read about it here ; "potoken" is the name of their latest anti-downloader measure ; the WEB client fully enforces it now, so youtube-dl from back in August now gets the door ... As far as a more up-to-date version of uBO is concerned, I'm with you although uBlock Origin Legacy still works fine. And a more up-to-date script manager would also be great. YouTube works great with VORAPIS V3. And you don't have to open every piece of crap with the UXP browsers. That's what tablets and smartphones are for.2 points

Legacy extensions and the mighty but underestimated custom buttons for UXP browsers are able to do many things that webextensions are not allowed to do. That's why I love them. I see them as a way of customising the browser to the user's preferences. Their tasks are many and varied, and accessing web content is just one of them, albeit an important one. But they can do much more. And new ones are still being developed. There are so many of them that you can always find something useful that still works. Or you try to bring them back to life. That's why I created this thread.2 points

In real life scenario it looks bad to my eyes. I just love CSAA and how it performs. I had to return GTX 1080 to the store since I didn't like the picture quality (overall , not only the absence of CSAA) and I felt scammed by Nvidia , they just removed CSAA for no apparent reason, without notifying. I don't and shan't buy any new Nvidia products if they are going to continue producing GPUs without CSAA and without support for Windows Vista. They've lost a good , loyal customer . I supported them with almost every new release since the early 2000s. And had bought top tier cards . Like 8800 GTX , 9800 GTX ++ , GTX Titan , GTX780Ti , etc . I compared my original GTX Titan with GTX 1080 and and Titans just wins . It's simply more beautiful. Someone here wrote that 1000 series cards are rubbish , I agree.2 points

The site is down until they can redo security and no data was lost. It was posted on x but I can't find the official posting. It doesn't help that one of archive's main admins blocks so many people on there.1 point

Just use DOSBox for DOS games, it's much more reliable (audiolag is a know problem in NT cmd). In Win2000 times there was DOSBox ancestor named VDMSound...1 point

Another two standalone reasons for this unique dog tag advocating could be: 1 - you're somehow affiliated with the police. 2 - simply don't know how to get rid of it.1 point

That puts hard evidence on you. My mom's a criminal defence lawyer. In the meantime, an empty string may or may not be received due to a technical malfunction - that puts nothing on you. Telling a "unique ID is better" - giving bad advice to people. Enjoy my expensive but free advice. And yes, as I suspected, @Dave-H doesn't get "human" verification, just like me. This tells your location is already marked as "un-secure" by a spammers' database*, which are plenty these days, and the sites use their services to filter out spammers. *along with that MSFN member from Russia, the one we discussed before, with the same error.1 point

Read your statement, and you will see it does not make sense! Intentionally or not. Anyway! I used 7-Zip but in a different way. I opened omni.ja with 7-Zip and copied all files in a subfolder which I named omni. Then I repacked all files with 7-Zip, too. Works great here. So it doesn't matter whether you use WinRAR or 7-Zip. The file cannot simply change location by itself P.S.: Don't forger I am not only a mathematician, but also a philologist! That means I am a friend of the word.1 point

@roytam1 Now we know that after this New Moon 28 release from the end of July 2024 the issue started to occur. So, it actually must have been a custom code change made by you as @UCyborg reported that the issue does not occur in Pale Moon. I am sure you will find the culprit and revert or fix it. Thanks in advance! P.S.: I will later check from which release exactly this issue occurred for the first time.1 point
-
tried older build date july, and yet-to-be-released new build. That's exactly what I reported before. In older releases of New Moon 28, this issue didn't occur. I have just tested New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) with the build ID 20240718150512 (palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20240720-d849524bd-uxp-8fbf81bb8a-xpmod.7z), and the issue does not occur. That means there must have been a recent code change which makes this issue happen in New Moon 28.10.7a1 (32-bit) with the build ID 20240922132822 (palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20240928-d849524bd-uxp-716b990183-xpmod.7z).1 point

Microsoft are enforcing mandatory OAuth2 authorisation on their e-mail systems. Basic password logins will no longer work, even with 'app specific' passwords. I'm surprised that the mechanism for that is even still there, I suspect that it won't be for long. Gmail will go the same way soon, I'm afraid, as will all the other major mass e-mail providers eventually, I suspect. The writing is on the wall now for any e-mail client which doesn't support OAuth2, I'm afraid. I use a proxy to work around the problem, but that's no help on Windows XP, where the proxy will not work.1 point

@user57 This '64 bit' conversation is completely off-topic for this thread. Please start a new thread with an appropriate title, and I will move the relevant posts into it. Thank you.1 point

Looks like support for ESR 115 has been extended until March 2025 with possibility for an additional extension. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support https://groups.google.com/a/mozilla.org/g/dev-platform/c/ffRCWVVHvAQ/m/PCVKYNnnAAAJ1 point

I mean... even if they don't extend the "official" support, we have plenty of options for 7/8.1 As stated in many different posts, the latest Firefox (128 ESR!) works on both 7 and 8.1 with some modifications. Back in the days of XP/Vista this would have been great news, as there weren't any Extended Kernels for them in 2017/2018 but now that we have some projects that extend software support, I really do not care anymore about official EOLs. XP : OneCore API Vista: Extended Kernel 7: VxkEx 8.1: Mostly some tweaks to installers1 point

Oh, don't worry - it's fine, I appreciate your reply! About the likes, it had been said in the site news, Tripredacus had drastically reduced the number of likes you can give, I think it's now only 9 per day, I don't remember exactly. And I'm not sure I follow the reason.1 point

1- I'm pretty familiar with 90's style , no . 2 - I didn't change any settings at all . I think it happened after I reinstalled Nvidia drivers. And the nice bug happened when I was using RTM. I can't replicate this. Got some time to test again , I'm pretty convinced SP1 (RTM) runs faster , overall better . I can clearly see the desktop is crystal clear . SP2 looks more like Win-7 , washed out , not clean , it is still better than win-7 , of course. I think I'll have a dual boot with Vista x64 SP1 and XP64 (RTM) with GTX980/Siemens.1 point

Thanks for the explanation . The absence of DWM is a big downside , that's for sure . I don't know what I did , it was so many attempts and testing procedures (trying various drivers , reinstalling again and again , etc) , but somehow I've managed to switch to "cartoonishly moving mode" instead of tearing . I do not know how to name it properly . It's like when I move a folder , it draws a new one (where I place it) , while keeping the folder in the previous position intact . In this "mode" the games that I run in windowed mode ran without any tearing , still slow , but without tearing . And now it's gone (the "mode"), after reboot . And I do not know how to get it back . Funny.1 point

Got some time to test on my other system with Haswell : Nvidia CPL still says "PCI-e" with XP and "PCI-e gen 3.0" with Vista (3.0 because this is a newer mobo). The games still feel much slower on XP. Also , there is a terrible screen tearing when I move any folder across the screen , the same with all of the games that I try to run in windowed mode. Is it supposed to be like that on XP ? V-sync and tripple buffering aren't any help. The same is with Win7 when aero is turned off . By the way , quality wise Win7 is on the same level with XP. The picture is flat and washed out . Games are cut off by several mm when launched in windowed mode , but this is not the case when running them on Vista. This is my first experience with XP . I skipped XP and went from 2000 to Vista in 2007.1 point

Where did you see such config ? Anyway , I'm not familiar with modern laptops , sorry. And my notebook from 2013 already had PCI-e 2.0. On one of my desktops (where I test XP64 dual-boot with Vista) I can observe some games can easily reach and stay at 86% for some time on PCI-e 2.0 with Vista and GTX 980, but with XP64 it's like around 30% only. For my precise config just scroll back and replace GTX Titan with 980 . I still think that even if GPU-z detects PCI-e 2.0 with XP64 , it seems like Nvidia drivers just can't take any advantage of it on XP. Otherwise why would Nvidia CPL say "PCI-e" with XP and "PCI-e gen2.0" with Vista ?1 point
-
Wolfenstein: The New Order has rather simple demands . The recommended graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 with VRAM 1GB , so there's no way it can saturate PCI-e 3.0 or even 2.0. I'm guessing this is the reason it feels smooth on XP. OK , GPU-Z shows , but nVidia CPL not , why ? Seems quite strange , the same result with several different people on absolutely different hardware. Yet again , if I reboot to Vista the CPL will show the highest version of PCI-e. This is on the same drivers version . I've tested with almost all known drivers . By the way , 368.81 is the weakest among them , asdf2345 uses 347.25 for his XP and it's the wise choice , I would also recommend 347.09 and 344.60 for 900-series. But yet again , you've just confirmed my discoveries . XP is slower even with DX9 games. Why do I need this ? It's just out of curiosity , I've never used XP and decided to try it. I went from Windows 2000 to Vista in 2007 (skipped XP completely).1 point

Yes , I know , thanks cap. My GTX 980 is 4GB , yours is shown as 8GB. And the dude is talking about 600-series ancient cards in the wrong topic.1 point
-
Excuse me , that's not entirely true . I really didn't like what Nvidia had done to AA , they are being punished by me , so I boycott them . But top tier 900 series do work with XP and officialy supported . I had tried this driver (a long time ago) and it worked without any modding with GTX980. I don't have the card anymore , so I can't provide the screens , sorry. But please check for yourself. https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-GeForce-Graphics-Driver-34411-for-XP.shtml1 point
