@lll888 In these days, such programmes like Ports Off or Windows Worms Door Cleaner are no longer really necessary as users are usually protected by a hardware firewall in their routers and a software firewall in Windows. Generally, the user should rather first check which ports are closed or not. This could be done, for example, by the (still maintained) Nirsoft tool CurrPorts.3 points

I would never apply such a batch or reg file, especially if offered in the way you did. For me, they are files from dubious sources. This batch file is meant to disable services in Windows offered from a person nobody knows and who does not provide any detailed information about the reasons for the service selection inside this batch file. This is a no-go. Same applies to your recommended utilities. And then someone should also import these registration keys via reg file, again without any information and explanations. Furthermore, you did not provide any links to the homepages of their origin. Only pictures of two utilities. Sorry but ! And all this logically leads to . And by that I mean no trust in such an offer and no trust in their provider. And that's you. Sorry for the bad news!3 points

Use the X-Chromium loader. There is no version subfolder that way. Or even the PortableApps loader. Also no version subfolder. The version subfolder contents are dropped down a folder and reside in the same folder as chrome.exe and chrome_proxy.exe.2 points

No, you confuse RTM with OEM. The ones that sold with computers are OEM. Look on their stickers. RTM can be freely purchased on a DVD,2 points

Well, dynamic hiding was the first text idea but it's not clear how 'dynamic' and 'automatic' would be different. Meaning of 'dynamic' would be 'aware of adjacent windows'1 point

Quick question. Will I have to disable auto updates via the registry? Or will it be one of those ones that sits in the updates waiting for me to allow it? Also, for Tihiy, will you be trying to put the classic menus that microsoft removes into your mod? Or are we going to have to stay on 23H2 forever?1 point

You misunderstood me, I repair computers, not only their hardware, but also reinstall the OS, virus removal, recovery, and so on. You just don't understand how a restore point works. It restores files and registry entries as they were when it was created, so the OS at the time the restore point was created = the OS after the restore. Of course, if the OS has a lot of bugs, it's easier to reinstall, they accumulate gradually and usually restore points don't last that long. But if something breaks a well working system, a quick rollback is best. For example, the wrong driver can cause a BSOD, safe mode doesn't always work, and rolling back from a point will quickly and correctly remove that driver.1 point

I already guessed where you're from , no need to write further. I'm sorry, I can't take assurances from a random user on the internet, also my preference, especially when Windows itself has that functionality.1 point

From my humble 30 years experience with browsers, one's gotta try several versions released in the timeframe of about 3 months back and forth of the given browser version release.1 point

That's an American "invention", all of my Siemens (later branded as just Fujitsu, made in Germany) computers (desktops and laptops) came with physical media. LOVE THAT! The tradition went on even with Win 7, not sure about 8 and later.1 point

On my system, the 360Chrome 11.0.2031 worked really well. The version 13.5.1030 rebuild 7 worked relatively well but only when the chrome.dll was rebased. The site loading times were much worse than in version 11.0.2031. In contrast, Thorium doesn't need to be re-based by the user and consumes much less RAM than normal Chrome versions. The standard loading behaviour is an other history, unfortunately. However, this browser was never made for my old system, either. But as I already mentioned, I found a convenient way for me to let websites loading much faster. More about this soon!1 point

Thorium actually starts relatively fast compared to other Chrome browsers under Windows XP, even on low-performance hardware like mine. Of course, it has first to be configured well.1 point

Your results? I've tested this flag and NONE of the SEVERAL quantifiable measurements (ie, the only real way to truly eliminate Placebo Effect) shows any "considerable" performance difference. Sorry, you have to be a bit patient. I am testing so much and can't say anything qualified about one single flag. Too much flags here and too much other performance settings to identify the effects of a single flag.1 point

Well, that explains the otherwise odd-seeming upping of the required minimum from 113 to 115, at least, if it's the last Win 7-compatible version. In any event, Chase lowered the boom rather quickly this time. I can no longer sign in using either Serpent or 360EE. There appears to be a JSON parsing error in my Chase-specific StructuredClone polyfill. @UCyborg's more sophisticated polyfill doesn't do the trick either since it doesn't handle self-referential objects (same problem as with the StructuredClone built into UXP). Also not working: Chrome 106 on Android 6.0. Edge 109 (on Win 7) still works (so, I assume, Chrome 109 would too), but for how long? It too now has the ominous "We'll stop supporting this browser soon" nag. FF 115 ESR will presumably have a somewhat longer lifespan, but the end is in sight there too. Looks like it's gonna be Thorium and/or Supermium in my future, whether I like non-unGoogled Chromium derivatives or not. I appreciate your honesty; but I daresay your "not-so-humble" opinion very likely puts you out of step with the vast majority of MSFN members. Yes, I know you "upgraded" to Windows 10 and are currently using Chromium 114, so perhaps you don't care what happens to those of us who still use earlier Windows versions (even 8.1); but there will come a day when your OS/browser will stop working too, at which point I will be overjoyed to remind you of your "not-so-humble" opinion! I just rename the folder; e.g., rename "New Moon" to "Old Moon" (delete the "Old Moon" folder first, if it still exists from the last update) and restore the new version into a new "New Moon" folder. I even wrote a batch file that automates the process. You don't lose any settings (unless you made your New Moon installation portable). Yes, I noticed that too, some time ago. It's a longstanding bug that also affects the pages shown by long-clicking the Back button. I just decided to live with it. I think their discussion was specifically about DNS over HTTPS, which wasn't a thing until long after XP EOS. Unfortunately, not likely, given MCP's position: DoH is a double-edged sword. It can be used to conceal your browsing habits from your ISP (probably a good thing) but it can also be used by apps to thwart ad blockers like Pi-Hole, which most users would consider a bad thing. But as usual, MCP fails to understand that their decision not to support DoH will have exactly zero effect on its "bad" uses coming to fruition; all it does is mean that Pale Moon users can't easily avail themselves of its "good" uses. (The apostrophe - D'OH - was clever though.)1 point

Here is a brief report of my testing so far if someone is interested. Thorium can actually be installed on such an old computer under Windows XP. The browser starts up still quite bearable compared to other browsers on my system. However, as always with Chrome browsers on low-performance computers under Windows, the page loading behaviour is problematic. Although I have configured all conceivable flags to increase performance and selected the settings to suit my hardware, loading web pages takes considerably much longer than with New Moon, Serpent or Mypal. Of course, websites can be loaded that no longer function properly in the already mentioned browsers. Surprisingly, RAM consumption is not a problem, it is rather perfect although Thorium is running in multi-process mode. Interestingly, it seems that I have even found a solution for my installation that considerably speeds up the loading of web pages and therefore the browser start, too. It's not a new one, though. One doesn't have to reinvent the wheel, either. But first, this method must still be thoroughly tested.1 point

Nothing to do with the browser I think, the site is simply not coded to update the title on quick navigation between thread pages.1 point

I was going to suggest that one also but it's not in v114 and I cannot access Thorium or Supermium at work. Yep! This one did the trick. No more entries in my firewall log. I just found this by accident, and its description made me prick up my ears:1 point

No. It is indeed Thorium trying to connect to this address. To be more precise it is the process thorium.exe. Disabling the flag #media-route-dial-provider seems to be the solution I found by checking all available Thorium flags.1 point

I told you many times about 1030 being superior. What can I say, we all learn something, I guess, I spent several years before I found the right driver for me, But hey, no one stops you from those topics getting deleted.1 point

I use 13.5.1030, and the fonts look very good, maybe 13.5.2044 isn't for your system after all. The fonts look like here. The settings I use is in the image I already sent (here). Sorry, can't send BMP - the limit is up.1 point

Every video driver renders fonts differently. I'd start with searching the right one for you. It's a long path of trial and error.1 point

So I replaced the card and it's all the same. I think ( a hunch ) the cheaper (lower numbered) ones aren't as good as the top of the line . Binning process ? Anyways, it works, the only problem is the awful colour representation, @win32, I don't have any driver conflicts , like you discribed earlier, what driver would you suggest me to mod ? Thanks.1 point

Well , thanks, I'm gonna replace it then, after the weekend is over.1 point

@win32, hi, so I bought that pile of garbage we were discussing a while back, I mean G1030, it was on pre New Year sale. So now I can test Pascal drivers, would you be interested to join ? I'll not be mad if not, 'cause I bought it only out of boredom, just for fun. I chose the fastest SC version with GDDR5. If one could call that thing "fastest". xD I mean compared to the usual GT1030 with GDDR4 memory.1 point

The list of supported devices is in the topic. EDIT: But you may try , of course.1 point
