  1. Confirmed! The latest version WinSCP 6.3.1 is no longer compatible with Windows XP. WinSCP 6.1.2 is indeed the last XP-compatible version. Thanks for the heads-up!

  2. I should advise against unnecessary manipulations with that 3TB Seagate DeathStar 2.0 @D.Draker already warned about. This could be fatal for that potentially weak HDD.

  5. I found 2 errors. 1- "Delete Annotation" isn't grayed out when there isn't any annotation, which means it's always shown as available, but clicking on it does nothing. 2- After creating an annotation, you can't close SumatraPDF unless you forcibly end the process with Windows Task Manager.

  8. @Ascii2 The title of this topic should be corrected. Especially, when we are talking about the quality of translations. I think you surely meant "Recommendation ...".

  9. BTW, those old programmes like Power Translator 11 Professional which I still have in my personal software archive came with an installation package size of more than 500 MB. I also don't know whether it is still running today after almost 13 years. Generally, I really don't like such bloated packages. I always use the DeepL online service.
    2 points
  10. Those tools are also available, but only from Windows 7 upwards, e.g. DeepL Desktop. Developing good translation tools doesn't seem to be as easy as you might think. Google Translator has been in development for many, many years, but the translations are often still poor in terms of grammar and content. In my opinion, DeepL does the best translations.

  11. Most those offline translator tools for Windows XP are much too old and/or have to be paid such as Power Translator 11 Professional or Just Translate 2016. The quality of their translations are not really comparable with the best of all such as DeepL. Therefore, I think you won't have much luck finding something really useful. Tools like QTranslate, for example, need an internet connection and even their quality is worse than DeepL which is unfortunately not available for Windows XP as an offline tool. Maybe, you can get LibreTranslate to work under Windows XP: https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate

  16. There aren't lots of options . And I'd suggest avoiding Linux at all costs . Like @Mr.Scienceman2000 wisely admitted , you'll just switch to another master and I agree . I'm also a gamer , but I try to stay with Vista . The experience is very good so far . Also , don't waste time on XP , there's nothing to gain for you there at all , should be obvious. Win 7 vs. Vista - Vista is the clear winner in speed and quality (sound , rendering and even HD playback). Now you wrote you have GTX970 , I can suggest some very good Vista drivers.

  19. Musicscope is a beautiful sound analyzer. See https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=106397#p106397. Notice that the 32bit java version there posted is functional in XP (at least for system use, I restrict java in browsers unless needed, and haven't needed it for a couple of decades or so).

  22. From experience, whenever someone posts "I am facing the same issue" it means that it is a different one, with a confidence level of 99.99%. This said, something completely different was reported to happen some 8-9 years ago to a poor chap. We have got by now the idea that that particular model of Seagate drive is prone to failure (particularly if run 24h/7 in a data center), but the one Dave-H has shows none of the signs of a failing drive, so, while it may fail tomorrow, it hasn't yet. jaclaz

  24. To clarify, . As noted by @genieautravailyou can find the latest available xp buils in https://github.com/artenax/tor/releases/tag/0.4.7.8, towards the end of the assets menu. If you need obfs4proxy "The last official working obfs4proxy.exe for XP was version 0.0.7 from Tor Browser 8.5.5. I built obfs4proxy.exe version 0.0.11 working on XP. But 0.0.11 doesn't work with the new tor.exe. However, it works with tor 0.4.3.6 and 0.4.4.6." I put https://github.com/artenax/tor/releases/download/0.4.7.8/obfs4proxy-0.0.11-x86-xp.exe and https://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/10.0.11/tor-win32-0.4.4.6.zip in the same folder, with the torrc file, and all seems to work well. Still not the latest tor, but functional.

  25. It does that even on the newest Chrome, version 122 at the moment. So, nothing to blame on the browser, but probably on the incorrect creation of the website. Logs in with code just fine on 360Chrome v13.5. Are you sure there's not some extension interfering with the login process? Check with a new profile to make sure! No, no, no apologies needed.

  29. I will re-read it, but you must understand that I also get things change, and some people (me for example) are just too busy to read through pages of threads. Sometimes we also just forget. So I don't feel bad about being "ignorant" about it. I've learned to ask as I please, and not feel badly about it. There's nothing wrong with re-visiting a question. It's not meant to inconvenience people in the least. That I promise. And I do thank you for the explanation.

  31. You confuse opinions with facts from developers. It's not up for arguments when the information comes from developers themselves. That person @Sampei.Nihira simply can't support grown up people discussions, he insulted me many times. I explained to he super politely. What exactly is not polite in this explanation? Now he's simply furious and revengeful. https://msfn.org/board/topic/186019-protecting-chromium-traffic-with-hybrid-kyber-kem/?do=findComment&comment=1260148

  32. I'm up for it with both hands! Finally, I'll downvote all of your erroneous, offensive posts, which are so many. I'll make sure to attach screenshots with proof, like I always do, all very honest, with articles, real expert analyses, all in a very polite form, all according to the forum rules. So yeah, I'd say - go for it! Just one example of proof. https://msfn.org/board/topic/185910-resuming-the-transition-to-manifest-v3/?do=findComment&comment=1255843 Just one example of how you tell people to "shut up". Will it get a downvote from me? You betcha. https://msfn.org/board/topic/186019-protecting-chromium-traffic-with-hybrid-kyber-kem/?do=findComment&comment=1260118

  33. Thanks for pointing to the last XP-compatible version 7.52.2806! Unfortunately, Windows XP support has been dropped in version 7.54.2808. Here is a quotation from its changelog on Softpedia:

  34. Restart & Purge - A custom button for restarting the browser and, if necessary, purging the startup cache, created by AstroSkipper As I have already reported in @roytam1's browser thread, I have been investigating the restart behaviour of New Moon 28 and Serpent 52 (and also Mypal 68, but this is off-topic here) for some time with a focus on the startup cache. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find much useful information or documentation on this topic on the internet. Even my request in @roytam1's browser thread also went unanswered (addendum: in the meanwhile, @VistaLover has replied here. Thanks again for that! ). It seems that detailed information or knowledge about the startup cache and how the browser restart affects this cache is practically non-existent. The startup cache seems to be a replacement for the former Fastload. It resides in the profile directory to store continuous chunks of data in it. In my New Moon 28 installation, without using the custom folder chrome for scripts and CSS stylesheets, only one file resides there with the name startupCache.4.little. As both, the folder and file name, contain the string startupcache, one can conclude that data is stored inside this file to accelerate the startup of the browser. Which data exactly I really don't know. I didn't find any meaningful documentation. I noticed that very often or in most cases the startup cache was cleared or reorganised automatically without any additional commands when restarting the browser. Sometimes, however, it remained unchanged after a restart. At least, I could find the code responsible for purging the startup cache. Anyway! One thing is clear. If the data in the startup cache is corrupted, then starting problems can occur which only can be solved by deleting its content. This can be done, for example, manually or by the commandline option -purgecaches. But there is no button or item to start this purge of the startup cache in a convenient way from within the UXP browsers. That's why I created a custom button for this purpose in JavaScript (rather a variant of JavaSript), the programming language used for creating new custom buttons by the extension Custom Buttons. I branded this custom button Restart & Purge. It performes a normal restart when left-clicked and additionally purges the startup cache when middle-clicked. After creation I have tested this custom button over a longer period of time, and it works for me as it should. Here is a small screenshot of my custom button Restart & Purge and its tooltip taken from New Moon 28: As the code of Restart & Purge has to be initialised, you won't find it in the tab "Code" but in the tab "Initialization code" of this custom button. Here is a screenshot of its code: The former download links unfortunately contained an XML backup file of the Restart & Purge custom button which either couldn't be installed without additional editing or some characters were not transferred correctly. The problem has to do with the conversion of custom buttons into XML format, where the tool I had used did not work correctly. This time I therefore provide a custom button link for direct install (when the extension Custom Buttons is already installed, of course ). Copy the quoted link below and open it in a new browser tab: I can't insert the code of the link in this post! The MSFN forum editor is totally broken and hasn't been working properly for months especially when it comes to inserting of links. This has already reported multiple times! Well done, who is responsible for it! Due to the shortcomings of the MSFN forum editor, I uploaded the custom button link of Restart & Purge as an HTML file. Here is the download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nrqim7ek9s6gp07/CB_button_Restart_%26_Purge.html/file Simply open this HTML file in a browser tab and click the embedded custom button link for Restart & Purge! For the installation of this button, the extension Custom Buttons is required which you can get from this post: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1226328 And since the legacy Custom Buttons extension runs in the UXP browsers, my custom button Restart & Purge can be used in New Moon 28, Serpent 52, Pale Moon and some other browsers. Greetings, AstroSkipper

  35. When I am later at my desktop computer, I will provide the version, which is stiil working, including suitable settings. @dmiranda At the moment, I have replaced the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37871-4.9.3 (i686), which comes with the installation package of SMPlayer 23.12.0, by the version MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37940-6.2.0 (i686), you see a bit more recent one. This version works great with relative seeking selected and precise unselected. Another version is MPlayer Redxii-SVN-r37802-4.9.3 (i686) which even works with absolute and/or precise seeking selected. Versions higher than 37802 do not work with absolute seeking. And I have unselected the options "Remember time position" with "Remember for streams". I should still mention that version 37940 is the last XP-compatible one. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  37. Generally, SMPlayer is working under Windows XP. But the provided MPlayer version which comes with the installation package does not work correctly when you fast-forward or rewind YouTube videos or jump to a specific point. You have to replace the MPlayer version and to adjust some settings to watch videos so that picture and sound are always synchronised. I have been using SMPlayer for some time but I tested this player only with YouTube streams. The good is the files youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp.exe inside the installation folder can be updated by the great releases from @nicolaasjan.

  41. And how do you know this ? Was there a statement from MSFN employees ? We have to assume the worse case scenario , until proven otherwise , agree ? "conspiracy theory" is a term invented by the FBI to mock people who tell the truth . I'm guessing in 2021 , when 99% of "conspiracy theories" became true you could just drop it , especially among us , privacy seekers , agree ? Chips under human's skin is no longer a "conspiracy theory" . Depopulation and all of the globalists' agendas are also no longer conspiracy theories. REDS taking over America , etc . MSFN with their keylogger are just innocent lambs ....

  42. 1 - Yesterday it was 452 , YES , 452 !!! Then he edited the post . Why ? Don't want to make any assumptions , but it looks like someone's just seeking for attention . But for quite some time MSFN logs our activity with a new keylogger (yes!) , so it's all in their logs forever. 2 - Doesn't mean they work on XP . For example, DOA 5 wants DX9.0C but still won't start on XP.
