  1. Thanks, but you probably misunderstood the question, I'll rephrase. I don't have any third party codecs installed for H265, Vista doesn't have its own H265, yet the standalone (portable) MPC HC decodes H265 with hardware decoding, why and how? The only explanation it's self sufficient enough, and doesn't depend on other resources, but you wrote otherwise.

  4. While I have no troubles helping a non-English member, it's still advisable you finally switch to another software for the forum translations from English into your native dialect. It's just easier, rather than asking every time you don't understand. self-sufficient /sĕlf″sə-fĭsh′ənt/ adjective Able to provide for oneself without the help of others; independent. Having undue confidence; smug. Sufficient for one's self without external aid or coöperation. https://www.wordnik.com/words/self-sufficient MPC HC is self-sufficient. It's capable of effecting all its own ends without the aid of others (in this case - third party codecs).

  5. Thanks very much for the explanation, didn't know that. That's really a pity, though, but I am not surprised, consider that it's, as you described, Microsoft.

  6. Answered here. https://msfn.org/board/topic/181911-read-gpt-hard-disk-on-windows-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1258067 Additionally, I had an HDD that ran with a bad SATA cable for years, it was slower, I hadn't noticed apparent errors at first, I wasn't particularly observant because the PC simply ran a surveillance camera setup, one day the HDD simply stuck at 100% load, but as soon as I replaced the cable, all got back to normal, even the disk speed increased (pointing out to the initially poor sata cable quality), and yes, when I looked at SMART, it had CRC errors shown, but corrected.

  9. BTW, Youtube Downloader HD 3.7 is still working under Windows XP 32-bit (tested yesterday). Thus, it will certainly work under Windows 7 32-bit, too.

  10. Yes! It is the laptop of my lady but I have to administrate it. I really don't know why. I decided to install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and not 32-bit at that time. We all know Windows 7 is a more recent OS than Windows XP (which is still my favourite). When Windows 7 was released, a 64-bit CPU was already the standard. Therefore, no need to install Windows 7 32-bit on such hardware unless the CPU is really a 32-bit only model, which was no longer the standard at that time, though. BTW, did you try a bit older versions? For example, Youtube Downloader HD 4.2.1?

  12. Someone gave me a present (old 2013 stock, but totally new sealed in box) Zotac GTX780ti. But display colour quality has decreased when I switched to it. I tried a lot of all the latest Vista drivers from all over the web, but no luck, the colour quality went down a lot, is there any way I can improve the colours again? It looks like it went from 8 to just 6bit colours. The card performs very good, much better than the old Maxwell generation I had before.

  15. WinNTSetup - a simple but powerful universal Windows Installer Features: Install (unattend) Windows 2k/XP/20??/Vista/7/8.x/10/11 x86/x64/arm64 Practically runs even on the most minimalistic WinPE selectable drive letter for the new Windows installation Fully automated with save/load setting in ini file and various command line options Install Windows also if nlite/vlite has remove winnt32.exe/setup.exe Integrate Drivers: normal PNP and Textmode Drivers Patch uxtheme to allow unsigned Themes Some common registry tweaks and *.reg file import DISM APPX removal, feature enable/disable Simple VHD creation and Installation Support "Windows to Go" for Windows 7 and later installs Supports WimBoot and CompactOS option for Windows 7 and later Supports all current WIM files: WIM/SWM/ESD and ISO files WinCapture - capture a Windows installation to WIM or ESD file MinWin - simple trimming WIM in memory before apply WinCopy - copy an existing Windows installation to another partition Offline Hotfix uninstall Offline password reset Not Supported: - No Windows embedded version (this includes WinFLP) - No upgrades of existing installations About driver installation: Every driver added in NT6.x windows will be added to the driver store. So it's not recommended to add countless driver, but rather more really required ones. NT5.x massstorage driver integration is possible thanks to Mr dUSHA powerful MSSTMake.exe tool To the Unattend option: It's possible to use an unattend.xml to run the Setup unattended. But as the actual WinPE Setup Phase isn't effective in that way of install, all Winpe related settings inside the unattend.xml won't be applied. Ini config file It's possible to save all GUI-settings to a ini file: push Ctrl + S to save all settings to an ini. push Ctrl + L to load all settings from an ini. A WinNTSetup.ini file in the same dir as the app itself will be loaded automatically at startup. It also can be selected via command line: WinNTSetup.exe /cfg:"C:\mysettings.ini" If you want to modify ini settings yourself, click-click has made a nice PDF for it. For advanced users there are also hidden settings described in the included WinNTSetup.ini.txt Command line: - Press F1 to get list of all options To install Windows in a VHD file: - requires Windows 7 as OS and Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise or Server 2008 R2 as Source - create a partitioned VHD and assign a drive letter (push Ctrl + Shift + V to use build in diskpart wrapper for this) - select the VHD drive as installation drive (make sure you boot drive ist a active primary partition on a physical disk) If you get an Antivirus warning from your AV software, please report it to them as a false positive and let them check it. 23. What are you so angry about? They are right. Win32 chose to place his browser and all of the developments there, on github, now his content is protected against reposting, stealing, etc. Someone needs to learn how to respect someone else's choice. 24. Japanese version would be the only straightforward way. I'm not sure if there's any way to get US Win95 to display foreign characters. I didn't figure a way to teach it to display our čšž in programs. It doesn't do Unicode, straight Win9x programs use ANSI versions of API functions that take string parameters, the code page in the background ensures string is handled properly. These old Windows versions don't have translations in separate resource files, strings are in executable binaries, you even need updates that match the language if you want to update the OS properly without turning parts of it into other language. This article also suggests the only way to run Japanese programs is to have a separate Japanese installation one way or another. There's some limited official support for USB in a form of a supplement package for newer OSR versions and an unofficial compilation of related updates here. How will it play with Japanese version, though...

  25. If an HDD runs fine when connected directly, it's 100% something's acting up on the route. First, cables, second - PSU, third - the chip, but also poorly soldered connectors. I use these, not ideal, but quite fine, I don't trust the supplied storage that comes with the disk. They are made from aluminium, painted black, super speed, it's what I use. Supplied with a 2A PSU and a good eSATA cable and one USB 3.2 cable (very thick, good quality). https://www.fantec.de/produkte/speicherprodukte/ssd-festplattengehaeuse/35-zoll-festplattengehaeuse/produkt/details/artikel/1479_fantec_db_alu3e/ Edit: Sorry, non English link, but I guess everyone's already familiar with German.

  26. OK, thanks, I edited the post and put the link to the comment instead of the comment's image link. This is the first time I hear about links expiring from GitHub's private-user-images subdomain, though.
    1 point
  27. I verified how long links from this "private-user-images" GitHub subdomain stays active (for absolutely no reason other than curiosity), and I found that a link lasts only 5 minutes before it expires... So, put links to images by this method is kinda pointless, it's better to directly put the link of the comment or the issue the image is in, or upload it elsewhere then post it here.

  28. I have an answer for this, too, starting with Vista - Windows has a much better error handling overall, computers working with faulty RAM sticks isn't that uncommon, not to mention cables. But if your Ultra ATA CRC Error Count climbs up, you need to replace the cable ASAP, don't copy the files with that cable.
    1 point
  29. Yes, like I wrote, those cables/connections are just bad, they don't make good cables anymore. I had a case (which is very common now), the cables were made from aluminium with only a bit of copper coating! Such cables degrade very fast.

  34. Thank you! The colours look like they simply don't have enough shades, whereas my old cars has rich colours, for example: blue is a simple plain blue. I'd make a screenshot, but all those screen capturing programmes won't show much difference. I'm fond of cosmetics and it's very important for me to see the lipstick shades. I put the old card back, all is fine again. No gradients at all, with the both cards.

  39. AVG Antivirus Free 18 is a cheap imitation of avast! Free Antivirus 2018. As I have reported several times, I had various problems with avast! But AVG takes the cake. With AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0, I had only problems and even crashes on my computer (real Windows XP). That's why I provided the download link to AVG Clear 18.8.4084.0 that you quoted, to get rid of this version completely. The choice between AVG 18 and avast! 2018 is like between plague and cholera , but I would always choose avast!. You can already see how "good" AVG is from your posted links. They removed all original links to the version 18.8.4084.0 of AVG Antivirus Free and offer a previous version. Maybe, because the version 18.8.4084.0 or its installer is crappy indeed? Anyway! If you really want to install AVG Antivirus Free 18, then I have this link for you: Download of the online installer for AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0: http://web.archive.org/web/20181227134304if_/https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x/avg_antivirus_free_setup.exe This installer is language-neutral, but I'm definitely not going to try it, not to mention the fact that I hate online installers anyway. And the most recent, official online installer is supposed to recognise the operating system automatically and install the correct version. Here is the download page: https://www.avg.com/en-us/windows-xp-antivirus#pc All at your own risk! I already warned you. The offline installer of AVG Internet Security 18.8.4084.0 should work, too. Maybe, there is an option to install the free version instead of the trial when starting its setup, or after the trial period ended, it should revert back to the free version as usual. BTW, I know Avast bought AVG some times ago. I think they want people to use their own, original products, and that is one more reason to remove such AVG installers. Doing so they have less rival products. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  40. A few additional remarks about Total Commander I totally forgot to mention in my quoted post. I find it simply incredible that the current version 10.52 of Total Commander is still compatible with Windows 95 and higher. Apart from that, there are a few things to note that make this file manager unique: comparing files and folders, creating and verifying checksums, establishing data connections via FTP, LAN and WLAN, integrating external programs in the form of functional buttons (for example TeraCopy), filing important program links (shortcuts), bookmarks for important folders, installing specific plugins to access external file systems like Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, exFAT etc. apart from FAT32 and NTFS, and the possibility of activating further functions by modifying the two settings files wincmd.ini and wcx_ftp.ini to meet the individual needs of the user even more. wincmd.ini is the main configuration file, and wcx_ftp.ini contains everything related to FTP connections. And all that I have listed here is just a drop in the ocean. You won't really be able to list all the functions of Total Commander. Even after 28 years, I regularly discover new functions. And I particularly often use the copy and move function for files and folders with integrated checksums' verification, which can be modified in the settings file wincmd.ini so that both the current date and the creation date of files are not changed. Here is a description of the settings for Total Commander's main configuration file wincmd.ini: https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Wincmd.ini And here is a screenshot of my TC's main window including some markers and the mentioned settings files, which can be edited at any time: Cheers, AstroSkipper
