Managing search engines in Mypal 68 Mypal 68 comes with a few search engines pre-installed by @feodor2. In his latest release 68.13.4b, the search engine Qwant is set as default. Other available search engines are Brave, Mojeek and Startpage. Many, however, will not like this. I personally don't like Qwant and miss my favourite search engines. There is now an extra thread in Mypal 68's issues in which the current situation of the provided search engines is controversially discussed. Have a look here: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/295 To be honest, I think such a discussion is completely superfluous and does not lead anywhere. Why? It is quite simple. Everyone has their own preferences or needs and can easily determine for themselves which search engines should or should not be available. The first measure is to remove all those that are not desired. Next, one can embed new search engines in Mypal 68 in different ways. This can be done, for example, by visiting providers who make a search engine available via OpenSearch on their website which can be installed by the user with a simple click in the search bar. Or, one visits the website Mycroft Project which is a collection of over 27 thousand OpenSearch & Sherlock Search Engine Plugins, especially for Firefox-based browsers. It is a perfect service to add search engines to supported browsers in a very simple way. The Mycroft Project provides many search engine plugins created by Mycroft itself and additionally such plugins which were contributed and provided there by users. I did the same and created my own, custom search engine plugins for MSFN long time ago which I have recently corrected due to problems in converting spaces in the search string and therefore updated. More about that, you will find here: These search engine plugins work without any problems in Mypal 68. Furthermore, custom search engines can be modified or created and added by extensions which I will present in my next posts. Cheers, AstroSkipper3 points

@VistaLover I have linked your post about Add to Search Bar https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1254575 to my second post Alphabetical list of all posted extensions. I think that such an extension should get its due attention and not be lost. Best regards, AstroSkipper3 points

A smart decision, better be safe than sorry! Thanks for informing the community of MSFN!3 points

Somehow I doubt it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for even giving me a small glimpse of hope for no longer posting in such a valuable thread. Are you serious? This is you who have and had been politically motivated poster at his best there and polluted the hell out of the thread with your pseudo (geo)political statements. Exactly like you're polluting an derailng this topic now! Everyone noticed - while you were absent for a month or so, it was peaceful and quiet at MSFN, then you got back and started to insult members and their valuable work immediately!3 points

Yours doesn't look like Supermium, the UI is different, and the real Supermium says "Supermium", not "Chromium" or "Chrome".3 points

The browser on this photo is NOT the one which is discussed here. Which browser is that? Standard Chrome?3 points

You can find an offline html TOTP Token Generator here. Download the zip, extract and click on 'index.html' in the folder 'public'. Paste in your secret key obtained from GitHub and voila. 🙂2 points

Exactly, how a country with their "government’s anti-American foreign policy agenda", which has zero American or British population, how that country can produce espionage-free software for the Western market? It's a rhetorical question. I don't know why you see me as your foe, why you never cease to insult me, you just agreed to the facts yourself. As for the second part - with your usual, rather ridiculous assumptions-accusations-insults, no I don't, but you have the right to report (if you didn't already), let them do the checks. In my country we've never ever heard of this dangerous Russian software "Kaspersky", I read about it only here, from you! What we think in Europe? Well, we don't have 1.6 million of Russians in my city, so we at least don't have to worry, when their populace reaches the X amount and they casually declare the city Russian, we'd be forced to use Kaspersky.2 points
-
I didn't feel a "compulsion", I spent several seconds. Apparently, it's more than enough since you have nothing to contradict to the stated facts.2 points
-
I still have an article where the investigators confirmed Kaspersky is in close relations with FSB, it needs translation, and I have to look for it, so might take some time. Thank you for a very funny joke !!!!!!2 points

What is it? OldNewExplorer is the Windows 10 (and Windows 8.1, and 8) shell extension / tweaker which can undo "improvements" to file browsing made in newer Windows version. Everything is optional for your liking. - Restore devices / drives grouping Everything is 'Devices and drives'. That's stupid! O-N-E can restore grouping which made sense in Win7/8. - Restore libraries / remove folders Remove all those folders which were unoptionally added into Windows 8.1 This PC folder and put the libraries back to their place, without registry hacking / breaking apps. - Restore command bar / remove Ribbon Because some people consider it an abomination. - Restore details pane at bottom Same reason; reclaim useful horizontal space. - Improve styling Get rid of some Win7 stuff here and there; improve styling with some built-in visual styles. For themers / skinners, O-N-E can help to override a lot of hardcoded styling in Windows 8, maybe even Start screen! Download https://tihiy.net/files/OldNewExplorer.rar TEST VERSION READ BELOW 100% FREE Stupid FAQ - This is a TEST version, no installer. Potentially dangerous too! - This is for Windows 8.1. Also should work for Windows 8 as well, though 8.1 options do not apply there; - No changes are enabled by default. If something does not apply, try logging off / restarting explorer.exe; - Install is for all users, settings are per-user. For long thoughful posts use email.1 point

I see, thanks for the information. In my case, Serpent 52 didn't lock up after I logged in to Facebook. However, it did get slowed down (no wonder since Facebook is a very heavy platform as you said), but it never locked up, nor it closed itself. This website requires WebGL, and ever after enabling WebGL in Serpent 52, I still can't access the website.1 point

No, I mean the file content.dtd which is located in the omni.ja file in your current programme folder of New Moon 28. However, not the omni.ja in the main folder but the one in the subfolder browser. You only have to extract it then. The omni.ja is an archive file which can be extracted by 7-Zip, for example. After extracting, you will find the file content.dtd in the subfolder /chrome/en-US/locale/browser/preferences. Hope I could help you.1 point
-
Under browser\chrome\de\locale\browser\preferences\, for example, new entities were added to the file content.dtd starting from line 33 jsOptions.label, jsOptionsWasm.label, jsOptionsWasm.accesskey. The best is to compare this file with the original English one, and you will see all the entities to be added, removed or changed.1 point

My German language pack for New Moon 28 - Fixed - Part 2 In the German language pack from the quoted post above, I found another issue under Einstellungen -> Inhalt -> Farben months ago. Here is a screenshot to demonstrate this issue: I had already fixed this problem at that time and the language pack got the version number 28.10.0rc3. This fixed version wasn't offered by me, though. Here is a screenshot of the fixed version: Yesterday, @roytam1 reported a new problem in the preference menu under Einstellungen -> Datenschutz due to changes of some entities. Here is a screenshot of this new issue: Today, I have fixed this issue in version 28.10.0rc3 and have assigned the number 28.10.0rc4 to the new, corrected version. Here is a screenshot of the fixed version: And here is the download link of the updated, German language package in version 28.10.0rc4 for New Moon 28 from 2023-10-19 and up: https://www.mediafire.com/file/6f7jyk6fldmzihh/de-28.10.0_RC4.xpi/file Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper1 point

No, on the contrary, the US government’s agenda looks very much pro-Russian, otherwise it wouldn't be 1.6 million Russians in New York alone. I'm scared to even imagine their amount in other US places, like Florida. I wonder how many of them use Kaspersky? Now tell me, how many Americans live in Moscow or Russia? Let me help you - none, Zero, zip, ziltch, nada! That's really anti-American.1 point

MergeIDE tweak can be useful, if you capture a fully installed Windows and apply it on different hardware. With older OS you could often get a 0x7B BSOD caused by different SATA drivers. I don't know if it makes much sense with Win8 and later.1 point

Mount the VHD and than create backups like you do on every other normal disk system. Either a disk imaging software like Acronis TI, Macrium Reflect or a file backing image like a WIM backup.1 point

Update notification! GetEmAll! has been updated and is now in the version 1.2.4 available. I mention it because the automatic update function in New Moon 28 won't offer it. For this browser, the extension has to be downloaded manually, and its compatibility has to be adjusted in the file install.rdf manually, too, such as shown here: Original: </Description> </em:localized> <em:targetApplication name="Pale Moon"> <Description em:id="{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}" em:minVersion="29.0" em:maxVersion="32.*"/> </em:targetApplication> Modified: </Description> </em:localized> <em:targetApplication name="Pale Moon"> <Description em:id="{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}" em:minVersion="28.0" em:maxVersion="32.*"/> </em:targetApplication> Here is the link: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/getemall/ Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point

You're welcome! I thought you perhaps wanted to see a correctly sized "Hellenic" flag. You see, I can always learn something new. This thread here is the absolutely correct place for such discussions. That was actually the reason I created this thread. And I think you already know this, I love extensions.1 point

The reason I wrote this post is very simple. Cloning or imaging a hard disk which has errors will usually fail due to read errors. Good copy programmes report these unreadable or unsuccessfully copied files and skip them. In such a case, much better. Generally, I use special backup programmes to make complete images of only working, error-free system partitions. I never clone a drive completely. Other files outside of my system partitions will be backuped or synchronized by different tools depending on how I want to handle them.1 point
-
@Monroe! Cloning or imaging a hard disk is the best method to get a backup including the file system structure if the drive is error-free. But if your hard disk has already errors, it will be better to copy all files using a copy programme such as TeraCopy (or similars) which reports all unsuccessfully copied files and skips them. You can set TeraCopy to check the hash of each copied file. It will backup all files that are readable, and you'll definitely know which files are problematic and to be restored.1 point

What I always do is to monitor the S.M.A.R.T. values. You can do that with tools like Hard Disk Sentinel or CrystalDiskInfo. I have a license for Hard Disk Sentinel. Therefore, it is always running in the background to notify me if the S.M.A.R.T. values have changed.1 point

Getting some more time to take a breathe is always a good thing. TBH, I have actually always thought that there is no digital barrier in terms of computers and internet that cannot be overcome, by whatever means. As a European and German, I naturally have no idea what such a barrier really looks like, how it is technically realised and what the consequences of discovering a circumvention might be at your location. Your life and well-being come first in any case, of course. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper PS: You are undoubtedly the one who made it possible for me to extend the life of my Windows XP computer by years. I will always be grateful to you for that. And I hope it will never end! I am definitely a Windows XP die-hard fan as you surely know.1 point

Finally, the right usage for quotes, keep learning, you're on the right path. Were you able to make a custom media for the system ? Mine has a function to create a custom bootable DVD with the OEM system that was preinstalled.1 point
-
Nah, it's just improper usage. Also, we don't speak "mid-Western" English. And you yourself always love to point out to the subject of MSFN being an international forum. No one's arguing, but some may definitely need a translator from your (without quotes) English.1 point
-
I agree with you, I'm not a fan either ! I have a DVD (read above). But ! By placing the quotes, you (intentionally or not) distorted the meaning , the technical aspect. Once again, it's a real partition ! I have it too on my Siemens PC.1 point
-
Weird... I know it may have changed now, but with Vista, I don't enter any serials at all. I have a DVD that came with my Siemens PC (it has a sticker on it). So when I need to install a fresh system, I just remove all partitions, including the restore partition, reformat the HDD and install from the DVD, it doesn't ask me to enter anything ...1 point
