@Dixel I think you are confusing matters: 1) how to batch rename files 2) how to open a command prompt when in an explorer window in the shown directory/folder To batch rename files (#1 in the above list) there are of course working command lines and/or you can write a dedicated batch, BUT there are a number of dedicated third party tools with more (or easier, or enhanced) features. My remark and suggestions were ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY about how to open a command prompt in an explore window (#2 in the above list). For that (open a command prompt in an explorer window, #2 in the above list) there is NO available function in Windows XP, there is something similar (and I later posted a link to an article on petri.com about how to use the existing feature) that however opens a command prompt in a selected directory, NOT in the currently displayed one. To do the latter (open a command prompt in an explorer windows in the currently displayed directory) there is the need for a third party tool, and I posted a link to two of them, one tested and used successfully by me for over 10 years, and another one, not tested by me, but said to be working just fine, more suitable to later versions of windows. jaclaz

FYI, Ultra Adware Killer has been updated to the version 10.7.9.0 on 20.07.2023. I tested this version under Windows XP. Unfortunately, the versions 10.7.8.0 and 10.7.9.0 are no longer compatible with Windows XP although some websites, as for example Softpedia, still list the most recent version 10.7.9.0 falsely as compatible. Therefore, the last XP-compatible version seems to be 10.7.7.0. Right! This function does not exist in Windows XP SP3 natively but in Total Commander. You can easily open a CMD window in whatever folder you want by clicking onto the entry Open command prompt window. It is located under the menu bar item Commands.

I reviewed the entire thread without noticing any mention of antivirus software. A separate thread might be warranted whenever Microsoft stops providing definitions for Security Essentials. (I presume that many are still using MSE.) Meanwhile: Avira officially ended support for Windows 7 and 8.1 on December 31, 2021, yet still has a Windows 7 download page that would presumably give you a legacy version. Bitdefender says they will continue support until January 14, 2024. Emsisoft no longer supports new installations on Windows 7 or 8.1. ESET ended support for Windows 7 and 8.1 after Version 16.0 (a little surprising since ESET supported Vista longer than most non-Chinese AV vendors). McAfee ended support for Windows 7 and 8.0 May 4, 2021, but still supports 8.1 AFAIK. Sophos sells Extended Support licenses for Windows 7 and 2008 R2.

Yes, but none of them work. The installer for both versions upon opening, give "The procedure entry point K32QueryWorkingSetEx could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll." error. Portable versions for both versions give the same error upon opening. Dependency Walker shows this:

MiniBrowser from this topic is based on Chromium 87.0.4280.66 and consumes only about 100mb of RAM, despite being newer than 360. Also, it has only three instances running at the same time, compared to the four of the 360 13th version ! The screengrab is from the same "Emma" PC with 8GB od RAM.

Huge RAM use by 360Chrome 13.5 here too of course. No surprise to me, but fortunately it's still pretty fast on my system and doesn't seem to cause problems with anything else. With very few exceptions, websites work with it, which is the important thing!

This screenshot I took on my "Emma", the torture PC, I mean the PC for tortures, testings, etc. Emma (2008) has only 8GB of RAM and an ancient GTX 780 Ti with only 3GB of VRAM (a fossil from 2013). And it consumes 560MB with only one empty page and no extensions ! Not to mention I switched off much bloat via flags. I don't have the v. 13.5 installed on my main 32GB PC anymore, but it had even higher RAM consumtion on it. EDIT: Emma name was given to honour mr. Bean and his girlfriend.

Don't use Firefox, sorry, don't know. But I even used 360 Explorer for banking and still alive, that being said, I never keep huge amounts of money on the card, only 1000 - 1100 Euro max. And the card is a debit one, can't go beyond the current amount. And this is only if I need to order something from Holland or Germany, because we actually don't need cards at all, everything is available for cash and plenty of stores.
