  5. Thanks for that info and much obliged in advance ; waiting hasn't hurt anyone, I guess ; thanks in advance to Roy , too, for when the backport gets merged "here"... OT1: Today's Bing Search homepage image was a dense set of buildings/flats, the info about it told it was a night view of Hong Kong: https://www.bing.com/th?id=OHR.WorldPopDay_ROW3908629060_1920x1080.jpg @roytam1, are you able to spot your own flat there ? OT2: @basilisk-dev : I honestly hope you're not located in those parts of The States afflicted by record high temperatures... If you are, I can surely empathise, since from July 12th a very intense and prolonged heatwave, originating from Northern Africa/The Sahara Desert, will find its way towards my area of the world... Anyone still thinking "Climate Change" is safely many years to come?

  6. First, as you'd expect, anything attempting to connect to a name on an interface that does not use FQDN is going to generate a DNS request. However, it seems that this Default-First-Site-Name is the default site name in AD which will show up in the ADDS snap-in. That name will also show up in DNS under _msdcs.domain\dc\_sites. I'm not sure that they are actually "crazy" that these requests are being made IMO. Perhaps the issue is specifically with LDAP. Presuming the server is not using LDAP for anything, maybe it is possible that the LDAP specific requests will cease to be made after disabling LDAP in the OS.

  10. I think the reason is this, most likely. Fact checked, as you like. ...Google Removed Most Twitter Links From Search Results... "Twitter Users Say Elon Musk's Limits Are Pushing Them..." "William LeGate, posted on July 4 and viewed 2.1 million times, read: "BREAKING: Google has removed the vast majority of Twitter links from their search results... Elon's decision to block the Google "bot" from crawling their site is reportedly to blame. 13. Yes, Windows 7 is very slow on boot/shut, we know. But overall, the PC feels faster (apart from the boot and shutdown) than with Win7?

  14. Tihiy I have a bug to report. In Directory Opus the latest preview build 3.6.8.4693 seems to cause the scrollbars to change when Dark Magic is enabled. This isn't an issue in stable 3.6.8. Dark Magic Disabled: Dark Magic Enabled: All scroll bars in Directory Opus change to look like this. This is only on the most recent pre-release build 3.6.8.4693 and not 3.6.8 stable. Thanks!!

  15. It is currently still trivial to revert the patch from (https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/f8db4b5e5d95) to the installer and then compile the installer using ./mach package from a Mozilla build environment (https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/setup/windows_build.html). I now have a working nightly installer again that works on Windows 7.

  23. Nevertheless, I reserve the right to decide whether or not to write an article about ZoneAlarm. At the moment, it is on my internal list of security programmes. Maybe, someone who is still using ZoneAlarm on Windows XP can post their experiences here. The more, the better! @Monroe Are you still using ZoneAlarm on Windows XP? AstroSkipper I forgot to mention that the last compatible version of ZoneAlarm for XP was the version 14.3.119.000. Here is a link where the EOL of ZA was announced: https://support.zonealarm.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001849832-Is-the-Windows-XP-operating-system-still-supported-by-ZoneAlarm-products- Cheers, AstroSkipper

  24. Yep! But there were definition update problems in the past. And the programme itself doesn't seem to be regularly updated anymore. The last ClamWin version 0.103.2.1 is from June 2021, unfortunately.

  25. Yep! Using the hosts file instead of a good firewall does not make any sense and is counterproductive.

  26. Right! I definitely can confirm that. Surfing the web with IE 6, malicious windows were popping up left and right. All became better when Firefox appeared and the first content blocker extensions. I started to use Firefox with extensions from the very first. And I also think that software got more resilient over the years in general. Yep! I think so, too. Although there are a lot of things I do manually, it does not make sense to re-invent the wheels.

  28. But then again, to me, VirtualBox is my biggest and most-used "security program". Run anything I want, without regard to crashes and holes, without regard to uninstall remnants left behind, without an internet connection to communicate anything whatsoever. Then delete the VM and revert to the base VM, clone it, and start all over again.

  31. Of course! And you see I did. Don't speak for others, speak for yourself! What others are interested in or not you can't really know. Such statements are speculative and meaningless. I did not overlook the different warnings at all. I already reported the warning from BSI months ago in the old antivirus thread. As I already wrote in my previous post, a more in-depth consideration at this point cannot be carried out due to our forum rules. Maybe, you overlooked it. AstroSkipper

  33. Hello @Cixert! I have been wondering for a long time that no one here mentions or recommends this program. So my compliments to you. I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware since 2007, starting with version 3. The last compatible version with Windows 98 and ME was 4.24.1004. Since 2011, I have been in possession of a lifetime licence and have been using it in the Professional Edition ever since. And you are absolutely right, SUPERAntiSpyware Professional has been XP-compatible for years and actually runs without problems. According to the fact that an automatic update from the version 10.0.1250 to 10.0.1252 isn't offered anymore in my system and according to their FAQ, SUPERAntiSpyware Professional doesn't seem to support Windows XP anymore. Therefore, SUPERAntiSpyware Professional X Edition 10.0.1250 seems to be the last XP/Vista-compatible version. That's probably why you observed an issue under the option System Tools. In the version 10.0.1250, there is no problem with this option. Here are two screenshots of SUPERAntiSpyware Professional X 10.0.1250 showing the main interface and the working option System Tools: However, the Free Edition and Technicians Edition are supposed to be still compatible with Windows XP and Vista. Anyway! SUPERAntiSpyware has been on my list for a long time. And an article about it will come soon. But again, thanks for your recommendation! Good job! Greetings, AstroSkipper

  34. Yep! A firewall for an old OS does not necessarily need updates or to be more recent. As long as it works, it is an option for users of Windows XP or Vista. That's why I listed PC Tools Firewall Plus here. And Privatefirewall is already on my internal list, too. However, thanks for mentioning it!

  36. That was probably me. Have a look here: All 360 Extreme Explorer editions have to be excluded in WiseVector StopX. But unfortunately, this program was abandoned. Anyway! Thanks so far! You are very helpful here.

  37. PC Tools Firewall Plus PC Tools Firewall Plus is a personal firewall for Windows that helps to protect computers against unauthorised access via the Internet or a network connection. By continuously monitoring all network applications, Firewall Plus prevents Trojans, backdoors, keyloggers and other malware from damaging a computer or stealing private information. PC Tools Firewall Plus is XP-compatible and free. Comprehensive protection against attacks and known abusive programs is enabled by default. Experienced users can additionally create their own advanced packet filtering rules (including IPv6 support) and customise the network security mechanisms to their specific needs. Features: Filtering of incoming and outgoing network connections; Using global rules for ports and protocols that are set separately for each network; Creating network access rules for programs that are already known; Creating rules for programs that have a valid digital signature; Control components and hidden processes and process memory; Setting limits on network activity for individual programs and processes, and for incoming and outgoing connections separately; Ability to visually alert you to a variety of events through pop-up windows; Ability to visually display network activity through an icon in the notification area; Availability of programme activity log; Possibility of displaying information about the network activity of each programme; Two modes of operation: basic and advanced; Possibility of hiding one's computer from intruders; Minimal use of network and system resources of the PC, so it is not an obstacle to playing games on the PC or watching streaming videos on the Internet. Homepage: https://web.archive.org/web/20111002054823/http://www.pctools.com/firewall/ Version number: 7.0.0.123 Date of release: 17.05.2011 System requirements: Windows 7 (32/64bit) Windows Vista (32/64bit) Windows XP (32bit) Release notes: Reviews: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/a-review-of-pc-tools-firewall-plus.180365/ https://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/107746/ Download link: https://web.archive.org/web/20110904214707/http://www.pctools.com/mirror/fwinstall.exe Screenshots: PC Tools Firewall Plus seems to be an interesting firewall. It is supposed to use less system resources and it is free of charge. After my research, I think PC Tools Firewall Plus is an option for Windows XP. Unfortunately, I personally never used it for a longer time, so there is nothing more I can say. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  38. In my Windows XP system, I changed a lot the last years but one thing will stay forever: Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP. I tried many different firewalls but this one is definitely unbeatable. I like to have full control about all network and internet connections in both directions, incoming and outgoing. Even in terms of the system core applications. All new applications the firwall is not aware of will be blocked by default (can also be set differently). Cheers, AstroSkipper

  39. If you read my article about Windows 10 Firewall Control XP carefully, you'll notice that I've already mentioned it. FYI, the main difference between free and paid version is all Windows system services and programs (System Core Applications) can be controlled only in the Plus (paid) version. All other programs and application services can be managed in the free version, of course. In my article, you will find a picture with a comparison of all editions under the section Features.

  40. Yes , because "??=" was first implemented in Chromium 85; 360EEv13.x are based on Ch86 and Kafan MiniBrowser on Ch87; but, I suppose, most members here already know this piece of info ; "we" are indeed lucky "we" still have the above forks in "our" arsenal , but, it's easy to realise, "our" luck under XP/Vista32 will run out when Google push out something working only on Chrome88+ ("we" already are hands-off from MV3 extensions ) ... Kind regards

  41. With all due respect, I see it a bit differently, and your statement (underlined by me) does not describe the situation correctly. There are two email clients that work with Windows XP and Vista and can handle app password or Oauth2. And MailNews in particular. For me, it's completely sufficient. Its Oauth2 protocol works great with Gmail. It should be mentioned that not everyone needs a Microsoft 365 account in pre-Win 7 systems. And its light web version Outlook.com works flawlessly in MailNews. And that means MailNews (and even DreamMail Pro) are more than acceptable in any case, especially for such old OSs like XP and Vista. Additional support of Microsoft 365 would be great, of course, even if I had nothing to gain from it. PS: Sorry for being off-topic here, but a reply to a comment can already cause something like this.

  42. Yes, in terms of site compatibility, 360Chrome 13/13.5 is still ahead at the moment. In Mypal 68, there are still many websites that do not work correctly. You are basically right about the content. But I have to mention that I am a big, die-hard fan of UXP browsers. I will use New Moon 28 and Serpent as my main browsers for as long as I can.

  43. I can only agree with that! Mypal 68 was and is an interesting project with great potential. I hope that my expectations will really be fulfilled.
