  1. Bravo! I still wonder why @winvispixp encountered trouble installing the previous version on a VM in 2021 (possibly related to extended kernel?). I trust you are able to get current definitions?

  2. Ultra Adware Killer Ultra Adware Killer is a simple but powerful adware remover for Windows by Carifred. It removes browser toolbars, add-ons, plugins, unwanted search providers, hijacked homepages, and potentially unwanted programs (PUP's). It also allows resetting Chrome and Firefox preferences optionally. Ultra Adware Killer 10.7.7.0 from 09.05.2023 is the last XP-compatible version. It is fully portable, so no installation is needed, and it's free of charge. Every time Ultra Adware Killer is started, it briefly checks for updates. Homepage: https://www.carifred.com/ultra_adware_killer/ Quotation from UAK's homepage: Version number: 10.7.7.0 Date of release: 09.05.2023 System requirements: Windows XP 32/64 bit Windows Vista 32/64 bit Windows 7 32/64 bit Windows 8 32/64 bit Windows 10 32/64 bit Windows 11 Review: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultra-adware-killer-remover-cleaner Download link: Ultra Adware Killer 10.7.7.0 Screenshots: I did a scan, and it worked as advertised. To do so, you only need to press the Start scan button, wait until the scan ends, and remove the items found. Typically, the whole operation takes only a few minutes. Additionally, a custom scan to check files or single folders can be performed at any time But you have to read carefully not to delete entries which are actually belonging to harmless programs. On the homepage https://www.carifred.com/ultra_adware_killer/, you will find much more detailed instructions, help and information about this program. I think it is an interesting alternative to for example the depreciated Malwarebytes AdwCleaner. Greetings, AstroSkipper

  6. In Firefox 113, any kind of fullscreen video is broken under Win7/8, see here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1832547 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1830721 Apparently this bug was known for 10 days in Nightly but went through for release, because they don't even test stuff under Win7 anymore, and the fix is only scheduled for May 23rd right now. Oh well, maybe this topic can save others the hassle.

  11. I just tried and it works - only if I use the extended list of my flags + the famous NO sanbox. But works very good, I mean, it starts faster than its counterparts. Other than that, I had no time to fully test. EDIT: But I'm sure it's good because it was made by win32 (c).

  17. Greetings. Thanks. Package "python3" is a python 3.4.3 with a bunch of patches (look at source package). http://cygwinxp.cathedral-networks.org/x86/release/python3/ At first look - strange problem in Makefile Lines in Makefile 028: VERSION= 3.4 043: LDVERSION= $(VERSION)$(ABIFLAGS) 196: LDLIBRARY= libpython$(LDVERSION).dll.a 199: DLLLIBRARY= libpython$(LDVERSION).dll But 655: $(DLLLIBRARY) libpython$(VERSION).dll.a: $(LIBRARY_OBJS) So it will build "libpython3.4.dll.a", but "libpython3.4m.dll" and search for linking with "libpython3.4m.dll.a" Please try to replace "$(VERSION)" with "$(LDVERSION)" in 655 string of Makefile or 641 of Makefile.pre.in PS. Sorry, i need some more time to understood Cygwin. UPD: 3.4-distutils-soname.patch:21 ! UPD2: With patches from 3.4.3 (last - python3-3.4.3-1.src.patch - must be applued with "-f") 3.4.10 compiles and works under Cygwin. Best regards.

  19. OT: I learnt British English. I am not really familiar with the nuances of American English. The problem with "you" is that it has different meanings. "You" can be meant as the 2. person singular or plural. Or it is equal to "one" to express uncertain persons. Therefore, I try to use it rarely or in situations where it is very clear. That's why I prefer very often the passive voice to avoid "you" although native speakers rather prefer the active voice. But, thanks for your clarification! Eloquentia conatum difficile est. End of OT.

  20. Here is the future of Chromium on Windows 7: https://github.com/win32ss/supermium I have been closely tracking the many changes made to Chromium since November 2022, made with the intent of dropping support for Windows 7 and 8.x. As of version 111, it became very difficult to keep the newest versions running on Vista with the extended kernel; shared memory allocation changes made it impossible to do so as subtle changes to the API (which were done in kernel mode) prevented stable operation of the browsers. So I decided to build my own Chromium. I discovered that a further change was made to the shared memory allocation which broke it even further; the successor to mojo, IPCZ, was forced on by default. It only works properly with Windows 8.1+'s shared memory API. I disabled IPCZ for pre-8.1 and this made the sandbox work again on Vista and 7. Perhaps I will see exactly why IPCZ is broken (from the Windows API level) and try to fix it for the next release. The only win32 API link I can find is CreateFileMappingW, which I need to test with an IPCZ-enabled build on both 8 and 8.1 to see what makes it fail.

  21. Panda Free Antivirus Panda Free Antivirus (recently also called Panda Dome) is a cloud-based antivirus application designed to protect the user without wasting resources. It is extremely light as all the work is done in the cloud. Panda Free Antivirus provides fast protection against the newest viruses thanks to its cloud-scanning from Panda servers. Even the most recent version of Panda Free Antivirus is still compatible with Windows XP (SP3 32 bit editions only). Features: Antivirus Protection - Real-time protection against all types of malware and spyware. Schedule periodic scans and/or scan your computer on demand. USB protection - Protect your PC by preventing the automatic execution of malware from USB drives. Scan all USB drives upon insertion. Panda rescue kit - Free PC recovery system. Run an advanced scan of your PC or create a rescue USB drive to boot and clean those infected computers that won’t even start. Multimedia/Game mode - This mode ensures you play or watch multimedia content without disturbance from your antivirus while remaining completely secure. Homepage: https://www.pandasecurity.com/en/homeusers/free-antivirus/ Version number: 22.02.01 Date of release: 27.12.2023 Previous versions: 22.00.01 released on 01.04.2023 22.01.01 released on 15.09.2023 22.02.00 released on 31.10.2023 System requirements: Compatible with: Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP (SP3 or higher, 32 bit only). Compatibility with Windows XP 64 bit: As already confirmed by @WSC4 and @UCyborg, Panda Free Antivirus is unfortunately not fully compatible with Windows XP 64 bit editions. The installer doesn't seem to detect the already existing .NET Framework 4 installation. A .NET Framework reinstallation via the installer also fails. If you still want to use Panda Free Antivirus under Windows XP 64 bit, you need to make some changes for the installer to work properly, which @UCyborg has found out and described here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1253877 Whether Panda Free Antivirus will run stably under Windows XP 64 bit is currently unclear and has to be confirmed yet. In any case, everything is without guarantee and at your own responsibility. Release notes: New cloud-based disinfection engine New behavioral analysis engine in the free edition Improved offline protection Process monitor allows seeing Internet connections on a per process basis Improved performance and 50% faster scans Compatibility with newer versions of Windows New interface Ability to manage different licenses Reviews: https://www.experte.com/antivirus/panda https://www.lifewire.com/panda-free-antivirus-review-1356582 Tests: https://www.av-comparatives.org/vendors/panda/ https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/manufacturer/panda-security/ Download links: Online installer: https://repository.pandasecurity.com/Panda/FREEAV/193309/PANDAFREEAV.exe Offline installer: http://acs.pandasoftware.com/Panda/FREEAV/193309/FREEAV.exe, credits to @AstroSkipper http://acs.pandasoftware.com/Panda/FREEAV/Promo_pd/FREEAV.exe, credits to @VistaLover Screenshot: Panda Free Antivirus is based on new cloud computing concept in which services are provided over Internet. This new antivirus scans files through Internet which makes it very light on system resources. It also doesn’t need regular updating of virus definitions as it automatically updates the virus definitions in the cloud (remote server) and scans files using those latest virus definitions. The user should have a good speed Internet connection to fully utilize this new cloud based antivirus otherwise it won’t work. No problem if the user is offline, it’ll still protect the system from virus attack as it stores the virus definitions in local cache as well. The system load of Panda Free Antivirus is very low (lower than it was for example with WiseVector StopX), and the detection rate is supposed to be very good according to my research. I used it for a while, and it is definitely an option for Windows XP. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  22. Have seen several buzz by here showing there 516.bmp transparent but they wouldn't share. Like they the only ones in the world has it. That sucks So I decided to just do it myself and have had it for 3 days but dsl went down. Mine turned out better than the others with minor thing like the corners with a little black, still way better This should work on Windows 8 but I haven't tested yet You will have to Mount boot.wim image 2 open Mountdir\sources\spwizimg.dll and replace the 516 and also the 517, 518 for the background. File is also found on my Win 7 SP1 at Mountdir\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-i..dia-branding-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_09a26c968a9af0e5\spwizimg.dll I use Restorator on 64 bit screenshot And the file. Its pink and I don't know why but works like above here 516.zip EDIT: ‎June ‎15, ‎2013 I fixed the black corners and this is new
