Not always the case, to be honest. 2021 was, in fact, better than 2020.3 points

from here ----> https://www.xavier.edu/jesuitresource/online-resources/prayer-index/new-years-prayers New Year's Prayer As the dawn breaks on a new year, let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends. Let us release our grudges, our anger and our pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in the most loving ways, the God-conscious way. Let us serve all who are in need, regardless of race, color or creed. Let us keep God of our own understanding in our hearts and to chant God's name each day. Let us lead the world from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from wrong to right. Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none. May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God's blessings shower upon you and bestow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year. - Rev. Marcy Sheremetta2 points

there could also be lots of good things happening next year (it could happen) we should not be sad about the next year just because of what happened the year before we should enjoy what the new years brings and fix what went wrong the year before2 points

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/emotional-fitness/201912/ten-tips-the-new-year Ten Tips for the New Year! New Year’s resolutions really only work for gyms. They get lots of sign-ups, but more than half the people who make the costly commitment do not follow through. Personally, I like to be inspired, not directed, and forcing myself into a smelly gym is not my thing. Here are some other ideas about making changes that may work a little better for you, too, as you prepare for the New Year. Believe in fresh starts. Most people either have this attitude or would like to have it. Make it a reality for yourself by adopting a fresh-start mindset. Everything is new again, and you get a psychic do-over on January 1. See your resolutions as a growth process. Making a list of the changes you want to see in your life is a good way to start off the New Year, and knowing that you don’t have to do them all at once also helps. Let go of past resentments. I do this every year. For most of us, everyday living can sometimes trigger bad memories. And even if you’re in the habit of regularly letting go of negative emotions, an annual purge won’t hurt. Prepare for the year ahead. It may be a good time to do some financial planning, like creating a budget or getting your taxes going. Squaring away as much of your financial burden as you can at the start of the year will make the rest easier. Choose a healthy lifestyle. This isn’t a one-time thing but rather an ongoing choice and attitude toward life. Joining a gym won’t help you if you eat junk food. It’s all about balance and making decisions that you just know are good for you. Forgive yourself first. You may not see it, but you’ve probably been too hard on yourself this past year, and it would be a good to let yourself off the hook. None of us is perfect. We all make mistakes, and perhaps yours was not even that profound, so stop giving yourself grief. Let it go. Apologize if you need to. Is there anyone to whom you owe an apology? If so, why not get it over with and use the holiday spirit as a motivational tool? Admitting you were wrong can be hard, but living with the regret or guilt is harder. All it takes is a simple “I’m sorry.” Be better to yourself. Usually we make resolutions for other people, but it’s wise to make a promise to be better to yourself as well. This doesn’t mean to be indulgent but to be psychically kinder to yourself. Keep your cool. This is going to be a very interesting political year, and everyone is going to have an opinion. I strongly urge you to choose to participate but to also keep any toxicity away from your relationships. Keep your promises. A resolution is a promise you’ve made to yourself, and that’s a good thing. Keeping promises you’ve made to those who count on you is even better. We all slip up sometimes. When that happens, it’s important to remember that we’re only human and then have the courage to own up. This is a new year, with new joys and challenges. Be open to the good, don’t hold on to the bad, and try to be a little bit nicer than anyone else. That alone can make for a good year2 points

I see now, ignored (content) is not blocked (user) in my dictionary, thanks. I actually have (since years) a couple users' signatures ignored (only because they are confounding me). Didn't know I was "unblockable", it is years that I am not anymore a mod, maybe something remained sticky from back then, or maybe I am just senior enough. jaclaz2 points

Regarding the rebasing of the DLL files of the browsers I think I am going to share a script to rebase the files automatically rather than updating the browser files that are in the Internet Archive. I haven't got like very different results on rebasing the DLLs so I feel like this has to be a user choice. I am also holding in doing anything because that would mean updating a lot of files (my internet is relatively fast but it isn't cheap ). I will move Mini Browser and the older DC Browser into the Internet Archive as well and plan on doing launchers for Mini Browser and 360EE (I don't think MediaFire is good for long term downloads). Just to let you know! Cheers.2 points

I know it's Windows 8.1, but it looks like Visual Studio 2022 works on Windows 8.1 unofficially. Gives me a warning that the OS isn't officially supported, but works anyway ^o^ Now, I won't be forced to use that malware Windows 10 just to get school classes done.2 points

Hi all and merry X-mass, I got bored and with the help of @Dixel and some amount of inspiration I sometimes get from @win32, I butchered the latest Opera 96 (110) to make it run on our beloved Vista ! This chinese browser Opera is based on the newest Chrome 110, which is officially supported only on Win 10 +. Also, I forced it to use its native hardware Skia engine 110. (which is now blocked on win 7 by default). For those who still drive their Sd.Kfz.8, Opera 95 and Chrome 109 are the last for win 7, so as of now, win 7 and the extended kernel for Vista are not able to run the 110 Chrome version. Please don't ask me about running it on WIn 7, I don't know (or won't tell) anything. In theory, it's possible for win 7 to run it. But only if you edit the browser code. (which is forbidden). Only Vista related questions. Thanks. Opera EULA says we can't edit their code, so I shall share my hacks/findings with @win32 and maybe he will be able to implement this in his next kernel release, so all of you could run it without the editing hacks.1 point

This build is targeted to be more RAM-friendly than earlier builds. The chrome.dll file now has a default base address of 0x3e1c0000 and this seems to work well for both x86 XP and for x64 XP. Limited to no tests whatsoever were performed outside of XP. UPDATE! After a long hiatus due to severe real life issues, including COVID-19 and whatnot, I have finally managed to port the UOC Patch to Firefox Quantum! And so, I can officially introduce the first release of the QUOC Patch! The QUOC Patch (pronounced "Quawk") is a Quantum-exclusive port of the classic UOC Patch that we all know and love, except this one has been aimed to the hardware that can (or barely) run Firefox Quantum and derivatives, including the very latest version. I have tested the patch on a very low end laptop, a Packard Bell Easynote TE-69KB with an AMD E1-2500, 4GB of RAM and Windows 8.1, and it really does make a difference compared to stock settings. This special port of the patch has been based on the currently public N2M version, to provide the maximum stability. The QUOC Patch uses the 45 ESR version of the UOC Enforcer. As usual, please test it and let me know how it performs on your system. Thanks everyone for your patience and support!! EDIT: There are two keys in the QUOC Patch file that have been commented out. These are: privacy.firstparty.isolate and privacy.trackingprotection.enabled If you remove the // and the comments, enabling those keys, you will increase the privacy protection in your browser at the expense of some sites not working correctly or some others not displaying thumbnails, such as https://www.geo-ship.com . I have left them disabled in the patch, but you're free to tweak the file and enable them, if you wish. If you use Telegram Web with the QUOC Patch and you experience videos and GIFs not loading, simply set this key dom.caches.enabled to True.1 point

Since 0x3e1c0000 seems to work for everything I've thrown at it (one x86 XP laptop, one x86 XP desktop, one x64 XP desktop, two Win10 x64 laptops), I'm getting ready to repackage everything, upload, and start a new thread dedicated to 13.5 build 1030. There still could be a "better" base address, not really sure. I literally just tacked via trial-and-error until I hit one that worked.1 point

I was originally aiming for "contiguous". ie, force a "defragged" RAM. Looks like this is not really the best approach. Looks like what is working better (and more universal) is to base to an address BELOW all of the SysWOW64 and WinSxS stuff. But to keep it ABOVE a mouse-gesture app I run on all of my machines (ironically, this mouse-gesture app resides at 0x10000000 - ie, the original default for chrome.dll). Admittedly, it's all been trial-and-error and just keep trying new base addresses. 0x3e1c0000 seems to be working out just great. For x86 and for x64.1 point

But I wasn't quoting DD this time (I blocked him for real this time), I only replied to jaclaz saying that I don't think legacyfan would block him, especially when he's a very wise member with a lot of helpful sources of information. You're not wrong about this, though. Have my upvote.1 point

@AstroSkipper - I think you kind of missed one of @UCyborg's main points. There is literally nothing to gain in this community by jumping through your normal hoops to always prove yourself correct and everybody else incorrect. We can all be "equals" even if we all have very different IQ's. Masters learn from their students. Here is my suggestion. Can we post this "issue" on a WiseVector StopX forum and gain some insights from its own user-base? Even without ASLR, a computer can run twenty different programs that all "default" to the same exact base address and all twenty of those programs will run without any BSOD's despite NONE OF THEM being able to land on their "default" base address. There is something else amiss with your computer if you are getting BSOD's. Posting on a WiseVector StopX forum should in the very least IMPROVE the product for future versions.1 point

@UCyborg! I removed all exclusions made for 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 in WiseVector StopX. Running again this browser with the rebased chrome.dll does not cause a BSOD anymore. Therefore, my assumption that rebasing chrome.dll might avoid such conflicts is presumably correct. q.e.d.1 point

That Dr. Who character is the best portrayal of "vanity of vanities". Her name is Lady Cassandra. She claims to be the last "pure" human. But she's had so many surgeries performed over the years that she is nothing but the skin of a face stretched in a frame. The world revolves around Cassandra. Every other human still in existence is at her becking call to spritz her with a spray bottle of water so that she doesn't dry out. She reminds me of people on this forum. We are all just here minding our own business and yet some here are so into themselves that any and every move any of us makes is somehow turned and twisted into revolving around their own little universe. I'd say it's fun to watch. But it isn't. Dr. Who, on the other hand, that is fun to watch!1 point

@NotHereToPlayGames @Humming Owl I just remembered I forgot to report a yet another stray Chinese UI string I saw a while back. It shows up when downloading from a "dangerous" site; IIRC there was a certificate problem with a not at all suspicious podcast host when I saw it. I'm too lazy to look for a suitably problematic site right now, but you can simulate it if you search for 85 E4 00 00 00 8D 86 F8 02 in chrome.dll (2022) and temporarily replace that 85 there at the beginning with 84. Then when you hover over the d/l button, all downloads should be red and have that message attached (if the filename is too long, you can see it in the tooltip). The string is "(来自危险网址)": EF BC 88 E6 9D A5 E8 87 AA E5 8D B1 E9 99 A9 E7 BD 91 E5 9D 80 EF BC 89 A fairly literal translation would be " (from unsafe URL) ". In any case, it's UTF-8, and should be padded with spaces to full length of 24. I also recommend starting with a space before the paren, because Chinese parentheses are double-width and have the space "built in".1 point

Since I still use 1030, I actually used it to develop this patch before applying it to 2022. So, for 1030: Drop Share URL QR Code from Chrome mode page context menu: 89 F9 68 6D 1A 00 00 68 4F 81 00 00 EB 0F 68 6D 1A 00 00 68 4F 81 00 00 Drop Share URL QR Code from Chrome mode link context menu: 89 F1 68 6D 1A 00 00 68 50 81 00 00 EB 0F 68 6D 1A 00 00 68 50 81 00 00 Drop Share URL QR Code from IE mode page context menu: 6A 00 68 D5 08 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 EB 5E 68 D5 08 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 68 E4 25 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 68 D5 08 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 68 E4 25 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 64 B2 EA 16 68 D5 08 00 00 FF 75 08 FF 15 64 B2 EA 16 Drop Share URL QR Code from IE mode link context menu: 8D 7D E8 68 6D 1A 00 00 57 E8 41 58 17 FB EB 3A 90 68 6D 1A 00 00 57 E8 41 58 17 FB Drop Share URL QR Code from IE mode image link context menu: 8D 45 D8 68 6D 1A 00 00 EB 43 90 68 6D 1A 00 00 Drop Share image location from Chrome mode image context menu: 89 F9 68 6E 1A 00 00 68 51 81 00 00 EB 0F 68 6E 1A 00 00 68 51 81 00 00 Drop Share image location from IE mode image context menu: 6A 00 6A 0F 53 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 83 F8 FF 74 3C EB 4A 6A 0F 53 FF 15 E4 B1 EA 16 83 F8 FF 74 3C Drop Translate to English from Chrome mode page context menu: 8D 86 F0 02 00 00 50 E8 2F 9E 72 FE E9 E6 00 00 00 90 50 E8 2F 9E 72 FE As for your questions, I used the obvious suspect for such things. But its free version or Ghidra or OllyDbg should work just as well. Finding the locations isn't too hard with the source code for Chromium available, don't really need to decompile or use the debugger. It takes quite some time to disassemble/analyze a huge DLL like this one, though.1 point

Haha, I got tricked... I had this doctorwho.tv forbidden in uBlock, so why I didn't see anything posted by ArcticFoxie, so I thought I'd make a little joke of not posting anything like him, with this wink.... now this doctorwho is allowed here, so I can see his post!1 point

This is what the HAARP PULSE actually looked like... And more amazing icy phenomena... Your daily dose of natural disasters and amazing phenomena for December 28, 2022... Strange Sounds 12 hr ago "Ping" Wait 2 seconds. "Ping" Wait 2 seconds "Ping". That's what most ham radio operators heard yesterday when they received HAARP's radar transmission to asteroid 2010 XC15. Scott Tilley of Roberts Creek, British Columbia, took a closer look..... Everyone who picked up the pulse did so because Earth's ionosphere reflected some of HAARP's radio energy back to Earth. Only a fraction escaped into space and reached the asteroid. Tilley's high-time-resolution recording of the pulse shows that multiple reflections (probably with a dash of ducting and refraction) were involved. The complexity of the ionosphere, and how it modifies shortwave signals, is a key challenge for researchers who will be processing radar returns from asteroid 2010 XC15. Good luck! This appeared in the sky of the Lofoten Islands, Norway at around the same time… WOW! By Lukas Moesch… HERE: https://strangesounds.substack.com/p/this-is-what-the-haarp-pulse-actually1 point

That's the direction I am leaning also. One version that should work well for x86 users and for x64 users. I'm pretty sure that ASLR overrides anyway for Vista+.1 point

My Windows XP system runs like a charm without any errors. We have an interesting range of working browsers which are constantly being further developed, and a lot can be done on such a system. Windows XP is a perfect Windows OS for old, underperforming computers. I hope this OS will live forever.1 point

For starters, Softpedia isn't the official vendor of 360 products, the Chinese firm Qihoo is... The browser linked in that SP page is, in fact, 360 Secure Browser/Explorer (a "relative" of the more widely familiar here 360 Extreme Explorer), which is mainly targeting mainland China and is bundled with Qihoo's "Security" products... Official download page: https://browser.360.cn/se/ Support forum (in Chinese): https://bbs.360.cn/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=141 https://bbs.360.cn/thread-15948589-1-1.html Newly released version 13.1.6066.0 is based on Chromium 86 core: i.e. the exact same core 360EEv13/13.5 are built on... Unless Qihoo have backported security fixes for publicly released CVEs from Google, I see no real merit on choosing this over the "sanitised" 360EEv13.x versions offered here in MSFN... For those of you feeling more adventurous, "Russian-Board" Forum thread for 360SE: http://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=2&topic=5854&start=0 "X-Portable" Russified+"cleaned-up" packages are linked there-in (but for older version 13.1.1774.0) ... As cautioned by Dave, NEVER run Chinese installers directly (extract the minimum set of required browser engine files and launch via portable launcher...) !1 point

I think it's unlikely. My understanding was that versions after 13.x would not be XP compatible, and in fact would be 64 bit only. Be very careful if you do run that installer and it works, I tried one installer (13.6 I think) and it installed a lot of unwanted crap on my machine!1 point

What have we done for years and years? Tweaked the OS to our liking disabling modifying to make it work the way we want. Just a new challenge to me. I laid low for quite awhile with release of Windows 8 cause I just wasn't going to go there. Didn't like it making my Doze into a phone because I don't use Windows that way. 10 gives us the ability to disable that mess if you want and change a lot of things. It's faster cause they removed the eye candy of rounded corners and such but oh well. If you are a gamer then you will want this with the changes to DirectX. Least for me it has improved things significantly with a Clean Install not dragging over bad reg entries and such. Anyone will see an improvement if they Clean Install. I am bewildered at the 35 ping from the 75 I was getting before and still can't understand that with same 10mb DSL as before. Dxdiag is showing 11.2 because I don't have a DirectX12 vid card. How is this improving things I don't know. Windows 7 came out with well over 133 + services in the background with a lot phoning home. I didn't see an uproar back then about this, nope I really didn't. Windows 10 according to BV "Showing 1 to 223 of 223 entries" Blackviper is still around providing us with Black Viper's Windows 10 Service Configurations advice How To Geek is still there with his Windows 10 advice AskVG is still there with his Windows 10 advice Clean Install is the key. Don't drag the corrupt stuff over to your new OS. Save the programs you want and their serial numbers and such to a usb stick or something to install later. When installing don't select EXPRESS settings. Select the other and disable like 99% to 100% of them things they ask. MSFN is a premiere site when it comes to Windows and have been quite awhile. Act that way and install and help us out with positive stuff1 point
