I constantly use 7/vista in classic theme + 16 bit color. It still brings performance advantages in cheap GPUs and laptop integrated GPUs from ultra-thin machines and i've even benchmarked it/tested real life usage in both.2 points

I can see Windows 7 lasting well beyond 2030 quite well. It's been almost 10 years since Windows XP was dropped and it's still-well supported by third parties. A lot of people don't have the luxury to buy a new PC. Often, they are in a developing country and new hardware is very expensive, a lot of old hardware and software won't work properly on Windows 8.1+ (one notable example being DRM disabling Hardware Acceleration on Adobe applications using BeTwin). In all honesty, is buying newer hardware besides for work purposes and video games even worth it? Why should I fork over 500+ USD for an overpriced new PC that literally holds the same amount of ram and hard drive space that a computer over 10 years old holds? I could buy a cheap used PC that can still run Windows 7 on ebay. Sure, the newer PCs "faster," but the bloat and high requirements for Windows 10 and 11 just kills the purpose of even purchasing such a machine. Top that off with the number of bugs 10 and 11 hold. I can't even run an i7 with 8gb of ram properly on Windows 10. It's beyond dumb. I'd rather just stay with my "legacy" Windows versions and be able to get my activities done. Digital art, file storage, family photos, and media files shouldn't require 16gb of ram and an intel i9 just to work properly. I can literally do the same tasks on my Pentium M with Windows XP at a faster speed. If security is a concern, just dual-boot with a lightweight Linux for web browsing and email. Long live Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1!2 points

Yeah, I know, rounded corners of windows like in macOS, start menu similar to ChromeOS's, as well as the centered taskbar buttons. Let me remind you that Classic Shell is no longer in active development as of December 2017. Open Shell is the reborn of the good old Classic Shell, and is actively developed. Yeah, me too. That's what I like too, although I mainly prefer traditional Windows XP/7 start menu. And also the classical Windows 95 start menu!2 points

Dear Gawd, why do we have so many accusers here !? First, it's *at least* not polite to accuse a respected member such as @AstroSkipper, not to mention him being Frisian ! Second - It's not "fake news", I encountered exactly the same behaviour with this browser and provided screenshots in the now locked topic. Don't forget another new member confirming this. Third - AstroSkipper is very kind and always polite, like most of the Germanic people. I love the the way how he compiles sentences and I would love him to be my English teacher ! Hi Personally I have no problem with 360chrome V13.5.2022. I use a PC that is 18 years old, with Windows XP2 x86 with a pentium 4 at 3Ghz and 2GB of memory and an AGP Ati Radeon 4650 graphics card, and it works properly without ever bsod problem with the use of Chrome V13.5.2022. Unlike Newmoon and serpent ,chrome13.5.2022 does not use hardware acceleration for videos,.but I fixed the problem with the add-on "youtube redux" and "Viewtube" which runs Vlc in integration in youtube. a big thank you for their provision of XP browser allowing us to use our old machines. NotHereToPlayGames and Humming Owl: personally you have all my gratitude. for example, try to make the content of this "whatever.social" Newmoon or serpent ...good luck1 point

Hello @NotHereToPlayGames! First of all, I would like to express my sincere respect for all the efforts, work and time you have invested and continue to invest in your projects. And now, in media res! You said: I still use Windows XP as my main operating system. It runs on a very old computer that no longer supports more modern operating systems. So I am a real Windows XP user on a period correct hardware which this OS was developed for. These old computers have low system resources and are naturally very underperforming compared with current hardware. Unfortunately, your version 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 does not run properly on such systems. And that is just the problem. Only there is it really needed! On computers which can't run more recent OSs and can't be upgraded in terms of their hardware. Therefore, I personally decided to use UXP browsers and Mypal 68 (in single-process mode) only, which can reasonably handle the hardware resources offered and work well in general. All websites which don't work anymore on my old system are called up in a modern browser on my tablet or notebook. Unfortunately, 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 is basically a rather badly ported version like all the other 360Chrome versions. But probably, these browsers can't be ported any better either, which should also be mentioned here. Anyway! 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 performs background accesses which are totally strange and unnecessary. The RAM consumption is beyond good and evil. Old processors groan under the load generated by this browser. Furthermore, all 360Chrome browsers are causing BSODs on my system. All other browsers or programs work fine and without any serious problems. In any case, no chance for me to use 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 for bearable surfing. The unauthorised sending of data is not a problem for me. This can be controlled by the router or firewall settings or tools like Proximotron. All members here who use this browser on Windows XP with multi-core processors and a lot of memory, possibly in a VM, are not true Windows XP users. It's not their main OS. They can always call up much more up-to-date browsers on their computer if certain web pages no longer work properly in the browsers on the Windows XP system by using their host system or one of their multi-boot systems. In general, I personally would never install Windows XP on a modern computer with powerful, much more recent hardware because it wouldn't make any sense, due to many reasons. Anyway! Nearly all of these 360Chrome editions as v12, v13 and v13.5 are simply unusuable on real Windows XP systems with a period correct hardware. So as far as I am concerned and presumably others similarly affected, it actually does not make sense to invest so much time in modifying the code of 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 if the real Windows XP users with a period correct hardware can't use it and participate from it. Unless you do it mainly for yourself! For whatever reason! I say this because you recently mentioned that you had abandoned Windows XP and upgraded all your computers to Windows 10, as far as I remember correctly, at least. And one thing is clear. The browser 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 is also long outdated. More and more websites will no longer work properly day by day, as can already be observed in some cases now. We know about our friend Google. Update, update, update ... In the end, your project will not reach the real Windows XP users who are desperately looking for a modern browser on their old, weak systems, because the actual browser code is not modified here. At the moment, you mainly reach users with hardware where other more modern operation systems can be installed additionally without any problems. And we know in these OSs much more recent browsers are able to do their work. Of course, you can also support only those users who are not really dependent on Windows XP or who use it just for fun. In any case, you should ask yourself whether the effort is really worth it then. Ultimately, it's simply your sole decision! Kindest regards, AstroSkipper PS: With "period correct hardware" I mean such hardware which existed or was sold when Windows XP was released, and logically not years after.1 point

I find security issues well overblown. People really believe their home machines are as much of a solid target for malware if they barely keep them turned on in a year as much as a company would and rarely expose themselves besides by their ports and IP itself. I sincerely doubt antiviruses are necessary at all aside from a classic 90s-like malware scan ran weekly if you are simply keeping a routine of using and turning your computer at suspend or shutdown time randomly across the day.1 point

Otus bikegila. Credit: Martim Melo Highly Threatened New Species of Owl Discovered in the Rainforests of Príncipe Island, Central Africa By PENSOFT PUBLISHERS NOVEMBER 5, 2022 A new species of owl has just been described from Príncipe Island, an island lying off the west coast of Central Africa that is part of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe. Scientists were first able to confirm its presence in 2016. However, suspicions of its occurrence gained traction back in 1998, and testimonies from local people suggest that its existence could be traced back as far as 1928. The new owl species was described in a paper published on October 30 in the open-access journal ZooKeys based on multiple lines of evidence such as morphology, plumage color and pattern, vocalizations, and genetics. Data was gathered and processed by an international team led by Martim Melo (CIBIO and Natural History and Science Museum of the University of Porto), Bárbara Freitas (CIBIO and the Spanish National Museum of Natural Sciences), and Angelica Crottini (CIBIO). The bird is now officially known as the Principe Scops-Owl, or Otus bikegila. ... The scientists behind the discovery further explain that the species epithet “bikegila” was chosen in homage to Ceciliano do Bom Jesus, nicknamed Bikegila — a former parrot harvester from Príncipe Island and now a ranger of its natural park. “The discovery of the Principe Scops-Owl was only possible thanks to the local knowledge shared by Bikegila and by his unflinching efforts to solve this long-time mystery,” the researchers say. “As such, the name is also meant as an acknowledgment to all locally-based field assistants who are crucial in advancing the knowledge on the biodiversity of the world.” In the wild, the easiest way to recognize one would be its unique call — in fact, it was one of the main clues leading to its discovery. “Otus bikegila‘s unique call is a short “tuu” note repeated at a fast rate of about one note per second, reminiscent of insect calls. It is often emitted in duets, almost as soon as the night has fallen,” Martim Melo explains. An aerial photo of south Principe. Air pollution is a cause of heart mortality. Household air pollution is mainly due to the use of dirty solid fuels indoors (e.g. wood, coal...). Fine particles have a median diameter of <2.5 µm (a human hair is 70 µm).1 point

Sure you can. There are people, who still use Windows XP and Vista. First, I want to clarify that people come here, in order to help reviving these older operating systems. It‘s in no ones interest to treat them like „abandoned ware“ here. There are masterminds like @win32, who put so much effort into developing Kernels for older systems, so that we can run our favorite OS, no matter how old it is, nowadays. In my opinion, people who do nothing but repeat what the richy rich companies like M$ or Google say and oppositely try to make everyone not use those OS, have nothing to do here. No logic input, only helpless statements. If we wanted to hear „give up, move to Windows 10 everyone“, we wouldn‘t come here! There are tough times waiting for us now. As far as I know, Chrome 109 is really the last one for Windows 7 and no methods exist to run newer ones. I am not using Windows 7, but 8.1, which can indeed run Chrome 110. It took @win32 also a lot of effort to develop an Extended Kernel for Windows Vista, which made us run newer Chrome versions on it. You have to wait for an extended Kernel for Windows 7 as well and until then, I would simply use Firefox (or Chrome till February 2023). As far as Security Updates, you already mentioned PosReady 71 point

To answer this, yes. Just like XP and Vista (and 2000 I guess), 7 will still be usable and will continue to go strong (well I hope). And ESU support for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 ends on October 14, 2024. So idk if those updates will install on 7.1 point

I think this mess started with Windows 8, then got worse (not the start menu, glad they fixed it) on Windows 10 (you know, the designs and UWP and win32 apps...). Now with Windows 11, they're kinda fixing it but it's still eh (personally I don't mind the taskbar buttons and start menu being in the middle, I think it gives Windows a fresh new look after using Windows 10 for all these years, but I think they're trying to be like ChromeOS or kinda like macOS, just look around in Windows 11 and you'll see what I'm talking about ). Unpopular opinion btw: I don't mind the full screen start menu on Windows 8(.1), but I still prefer the conservative start menu1 point

i really don't understand why is everyone so obsessed with these "security updates" ? i use 7 sp1 with patches untill 2015, later when they started integrating telemetry i didn't install a single update and my OS runs perfect ... why all the paranoia ?1 point

For the record, simply deleting or editing the labels for these doesn't seem to work, you just get blank menu items that still have the functionality. (I'm not sure that was the gist of what he was hinting at last night; if there was something else, hopefully he can elaborate.) Ah, OK, glad that's settled. The way you brought it up earlier seemed to suggest my paks were suspicious in some way, that's why I grumpily reacted with that line about hacking.1 point

Hello @Cixert! Glad it was really you! In the folder c:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data\Mypal68\, there are two relevant files, profiles.ini and installs.ini. Your profiles.ini file is totally messed up, unfortunately. It has to be cleaned and modified to get rid of your problems. Here is the code of these two files taken from my Windows XP installation: Content of profiles.ini: [Profile2] Name=Default IsRelative=0 Path=D:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Default [Profile1] Name=Test IsRelative=0 Path=D:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Test [Profile0] Name=Mypal68 IsRelative=0 Path=d:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Mypal68.12.2 Default=1 [General] StartWithLastProfile=0 Version=2 [InstallE2373D2F645B4BBF] Default=d:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Mypal68.12.2 Locked=1 Content of installs.ini: [E2373D2F645B4BBF] Default=d:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Mypal68.12.2 Locked=1 As you can see, I have three different profiles located in the partition D:. My main profile is Mypal68.12.2. I do not install profiles in my system partition C: due to many well-known reasons. With these two files, I have no problems anymore while updating Mypal 68. But first, some short clarifications: IsRelative=1 means relative paths, relative to the Profiles folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data\Mypal68\Profiles as, for example, your newest profile jvsrhsc8.default-default-3 has the relative path Profiles/jvsrhsc8.default-default-3. IsRelative=0 means using absolute paths as, for example, D:\Eigene Dateien\Mypal\Mypal68\Profiles\Mypal68.12.2 in my case. Locked=1 means that the respective profile is locked to the Firefox installation path referenced by a hash. In your case, the hash 77095BA9BFBDBF19 belongs to your newest profile jvsrhsc8.default-default-3. I recommend to delete all unused, unimportant profiles physically on your hard disk and all references in these two files above. Use absolute paths only which means IsRelative=0 and replace the relative paths by the absolute ones! Simply put, edit both files as it was done in my files! My main profile is Mypal68.12.2. Replace it in your files by your main profile name! In the profiles.ini file, you have several items [Installxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx], but you should have only one, in your case [Install77095BA9BFBDBF19] for your newest profile jvsrhsc8.default-default-3 and only the respective item [77095BA9BFBDBF19] in the installs.ini file. BTW, all problems referring to these two files have already been discussed by me here: In any case, it should work for you, too. But if you have problems or questions, do not hesitate to post it here! I'll help you if possible. Kind regards, AstroSkipper1 point
