  1. I recently got the latest version of Python 3.6, Python 3.6.15 working on Windows XP SP3. Since Python 3.4 is the latest official version for XP, this allows the use of many more Python programs like YouTube-DLP. You can get WinXP_Python-3.6.15 on my website.

  2. @Dave-H Do you happen to use a proxy for HTTPS? If so, add its certificate to your new browsers. Or change the browser proxy setting to "no proxy" instead of auto/system proxy.

  3. Yeah, the problem is you did not change the system mount point, it's still points to the old drive. WinNTSetup always set HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices, \DosDevices\C: to avoid this trouble. You could load offline registry and set this value with the binary data from your current system. Or just use WinNTSetup without selecting a installation source.

  4. I’ve decided to create this thread, since the amount of half working programs have became kinda crazy. Handbrake - 1.3 is the latest officially supported version. At this time the newest version work just fine, but it is no longer supported. Beamng.Drive and Rocket League - Both give "App stopped working" When you properly exit them. They function just fine, but this weird message comes up every time. Geforce experience - While you can install and open the newest 1.24 geforce experience, it no longer screen captures and many other functions stops working. 1.23 is the latest one that still work normally. VMware workstation Pro - The newest 16.2.1 version of this still functions on 8.1, but 3D acceleration has been turned off for some reason. 16.1.2 is the latest one that still functions as intended. Logitech GHUB - The latest version works if you update it through vista compatibility setting. For some users a warning saying that the driver is not digitally signed pops up, but everything still works. iTunes - See my topic on this. Onedrive - Microsoft claims that it will stop working on 1st of january 2022 Office 2019 - Somewhere on msfn I’ve seen people claiming that it can be installed. I use office 365 and it still updates to their newest version just fine. Ryzen CPUs - They work just fine. Don’t forget to manually install missing pci drivers from amd folder and usb 3.1 root hub. Use AMD’s windows 10 driver version 2.17.25.506 RTX 3000 - Unfortunately no known workaround has been found RX 6000 by amd - They seem to work. Sometimes you get weird colors on unity games. Please contribute to this list. Cheers

  5. CONTEXT is difficult to convey. Especially in written form on an international forum. I do not recommend using the word "dude" as a "greeting". ie, as the first word in a sentence "directed at" whomever you are speaking to. You most certainly do not approach a law enforcement officer, a college professor, a priest or rabbi, a politician, a ruler of a country, basically any position of respect and authority, and start your sentence off with "dude". Like I say, CONTEXT is difficult to convey. But "dude" as a "greeting" and then followed by "did you even read" does have certain "undertones" that I would suggest most of us do not do when speaking to our own parents in honor and respect. So yeah, the word "dude" can be derogatory in nature, but it can also be an informal greeting to a friend within our peer group. But if I ever meet a foreign dictator, prince, princess, king, queen, president, vice president, et cetera, you can rest assured that the first word I utter will not be "dude".

  7. Thanks. I have actually become accustomed to using my iPhone for virtually everything now - in fact I don’t think I have posted here using any other method since early 2020. But I do love history, and Vista is definitely history.

  8. @Vistapocalypse I would kindly advice that you to make sure that this decision is not dictated by the behavior of a single "dude", who is (intentionally or not) kicking you from the MSFN community. I'm sure 99% people here appreciate your dedication to the topic and you helped many of them. If there are more important reasons, it's ok, I (and probably everyone here) will respect your decision. Good luck with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, Linux (just not Windows 10 or 11). Happy New Year!

  10. To msfntor Two years ago I had the same eye problems (only on one eye) and I went to an eye doctor (a very good doctor, also cheap, now retired! - unfortunately where I live there are many expensive and not very good eye doctors). My problems were: - Bright flashes. The bright flashes (bright semiarchs) were caused by a vitreous humor that pulled the retina when the eye moved (mechanical forces exerted by the vitreous humor on the retina which begins to no longer adhere), these flashes were visible even with closed eyes and also in the dark. The eye doctor explained to me that they were caused by the vitreous humor drying out (shrinked humor volume). - Dark spots. I also observed some dark spots that move when I was moving my eyes, floaters ('miodesopsie' in italian - protein fibers that have broken). The eye doctor explained to me that they were caused by vitreous humor aging. The retina was fine fortunately! The problem solution was: drink water often in order to hydrate the vitreous humor and take an eye supplement (based on Potassium, Magnesium, C and E Vitamin, Amino acids and Red Vine extract (antioxidant)) in order to re-integrate the vitreous humor protein matrix. I have been taking the eye supplement for many months and I slowly solved my eye problems (in Italy I purchased a product called 'Vitreolisina Idro' that the doctor suggested I should take). Stays well and Happy New Year to everyone! I41Mar

  15. Sometimes I kinda have to wonder what some of you folks do in your spare time. Killing operating system .dll's and calling it "privacy" or "security" - trying to hide from the law? JUST JOKING. But maybe, just maybe, my browsing habits are more innocent than some of us that lay asleep at night wondering what operating system .dll's are "doing". But like I say, JUST JOKING... Mostly...

  16. ESENT has been around since Windows 2000 through Windows 11. Maybe this will help explain ESENT, and convince you that it is both not "junk" and also useful. From https://www.minitool.com/news/esent.html: What Is ESENT? --------------- What is ESENT? ESENT is an embeddable transactional database engine. It was first provided with Microsoft Windows 2000 and has been available to developers since then. You can use ESENT for applications that require reliable, high-performance, and low-overhead structured or semi-structured data storage. The ESENT engine can meet a variety of data requirements, from simple data like hash tables to data that cannot be stored in memory to more complex data (such as applications with tables, columns, and indexes). Now, many teams at Microsoft currently rely on ESENT for data storage, such as Active Directory, Windows Desktop Search, Windows Mail, Live Mesh, and Windows Update. Besides, Microsoft Exchange uses a slightly modified version of the ESENT code to store all its mailbox data.

  17. I think a better question would be "what is the most powerful completely vista supported laptop?" Some discussions a few months ago lead me to believe the m6700 from dell would be one of the best choices but I didn't understand whether the gpu (gtx 980m or quadro m5000m (the original one can be changed with one of these and obv now I'm talking about these ones)) can be made to work or not with vista since on the official nvidia website the last mobile gpu that has vista drivers is the gtx 680m There was mentioned a hp model but I didn't do a proper research about it since it only has 1 fan and I think it would struggle to keep the gpu and the cpu cool at the same time (the cpu and gpu in this one can also be changed just like in the m6700)

  18. ... This isn't actually true , and it has been covered already in the Vista subforums (but am now lazy to track down that post...) . Unlike WinXP SP3 x86, for which the last supported .NET FW version is 4.0.3, Vista SP2 x86 can natively (though unofficially...) support up to .NET FW 4.6.1 (official support stops at v4.6.0) ; below is a screengrab from my Vista SP2 32-bit laptop, running happily ShareX 12.4.1 portable: The trick is to modify L4 of the ShareX.exe.config file so as to read: <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.6.1" /> (.NET FW 4.6.1 has to be installed, of course... ) ; and if you are to use ShareX functions requiring FFmpeg, then you have to swap the provided ffmpeg.exe binary (requires Win7+) with a Vista-compatible one ; FWIW, as can be seen, Update Check works as expected ! BTW, I haven't tested any of the ShareX v13 series yet...
