Updated build 2206 rebuild has been uploaded. Did not do any changes with Chinese Avatar (I don't use the Avatar but I'll visit that at some point). No resources changed as of yet, the discussed resource changes also exist in "vanilla" Chromium so I'm unsure as of yet on their removal. 360Loader.ini has been reverted to default format as far as cache and cookie management - but the settings to keep cache and cookies between sessions will require the end-user to visit the pertinent settings. https://www.dropbox.com/s/e2pwk0551kbe4b8/360ChromePortable%20%20--%20%20Build%202206%20-%20MSFN%20rebuild%20v2.zip?dl=01 point

not "on some cards", but in vdhcp.vxd - too long timeout.1 point

Perhaps you need to create a new topic and call it smth like "Un-chinified/Un-russified 360 with basic privacy settings and XP skin". Thus avoiding your posts getting lost in this general discussion .1 point

I do have it set up by default to delete cookies and cache after every session. Users that prefer to save cookies and cache will have to change a setting or two. I'll probably create a thread specific to Build 2206 once I complete this weekend's modifications and upload again.1 point

Hi @ArcticFoxie I am currently trying build 2206. Works great except youtube. For some reason, cookies are deleted after each session. I had to change that from the settings. It probably is better to be the default. I think you should create another thread so people can find easily your modified versions. Here it is not easy to find them.1 point

but not possible, since newer NSS uses features and new code syntax that old compiler can't support.1 point

I don't change it either. I use the portable and configure the .ini to delete the cache on exit, coupled with the Settings - Advanced -> Clear browsing data settings1 point

I do not know either but if you look into bootlog.txt after a logged start then after IO it usually loads drivers for the disk so I would make sure all of your hard-drive is in good shape. Make sure you back up everything before you do a defrag because if the disk bias recording level requirement (is my closest analogy like magnetic tapes) is not uniform throughout the media then there can be a read-write error and the file that happens to be unlucky and reside on the read-write error spot it will have to be deleted. It is important to set the recycle bin off for this as it will not be able to delete it otherwise. Best not to defrag first and check the drive with scan disk thorough and check all surface check. Perhaps your swap file is huge. It is the registry loading that takes the time so do a scanregw as well to make sure the registry is OK and I would run a RAM checking utility to check RAM is good too.1 point

I've had a desktop a long time ago that had similar quirks. There'd be a bit of Windows splash screen, a bit of BIOS left over screen with added Windows' messages about setting code page and at some point it would just sit there for several seconds with no disk activity. Granted, it wasn't that long (cca. 10s) and TBH, I don't recall anymore if there was just one waiting period or even two. That PC had 233 MHz Pentium, 128 MB of RAM, some variant of ATI Mach and 2x 2 GB disks communicating via SCSI interface. It was used to run quirky (regarding compatibility with newer OS) accounting software. Eventually realized there wasn't much point in running it on that slow and noisy turtle since a better option was available, so I decomissioned it and migrated the software to the much more capable machine. The software was put inside a Windows 2000 virtual machine. I never knew whether the waiting part was just the way it was or something could be done about it.1 point

I’m sure it works fine with YouTube’s Polymer v1, but if you changed your user agent in order to be served Polymer v2, I believe it would be most unsatisfactory. As I stated above, “Whenever Google deprecates Polymer v1” (which they obviously haven’t done yet), Chromium 49-based and Firefox 52-based browsers (including UXP browsers) will not be able to display YouTube’s homepage. I first learned about this in VistaLover’s February 26, 2020 post (near the bottom of it) and subsequent discussion in that now-dormant thread. I was sufficiently concerned that I actually tried Yandex 17.4.1 on Vista (reluctantly, since it is Russian), and confirmed that this Chromium 57 backport is served Polymer v2 by default. I assume that the same is true for 360 and other Chinese backports (except “Advanced Chrome,” which is known to not work so well with YouTube).1 point

You can see servers in Tools > Web Developer > Network. In Opera there was a Dragonfly component with similar functionality. To avoid connecting to localhost where there might be a webserver running, I use an address from future use range 240.0.0.0/4 which is set to 'Prohibit' in my router. Presumably, the styles of a forum can be adjusted to anything. These particular sites prefer retro and colorful look because of the subjects they discuss.1 point

It's an issue that has been brought up in other forums like mozillazine, but I'm not sure if a bug has ever been filed. I was just trying to let Mr.Scienceman2000 know that's in an old problem and that he probably doesn't need to delete the entire profile, might try the ImapMail folder first.1 point

Internet downfall started with HTML5 and forcing too much of javascript and dropping many good standards. Standards started changing all the time by google resulting browsers not to work properly on sites. RSS is dead and you need use newspaper bloated webpage that needs 5 domains worth of javascript allowed to view news unless disable css that makes it look horrible. Back in old days RSS (real simple syndication) was everywhere. It is feed that had articles from site. Every news site and other had it. Even blogs did. I liked since was able load it to laptop or pda with rss viewer and read day news even when was away from internet connection. Also was able easily multiple news feeds and blogs and delete what ever articles liked (promotional or old articles. It was like social media news feed but single user, user was on full control, not controlled by single company, worked offline. Nowadays every possible Nowadays RSS feeds got only headlines when cannot read artcile with reader or feed wont exist at all. One local newspaper killed RSS feed and tells download their mobile app (basically website wrapped to electron) to read news now. Everyone uses social media now and smartphone. When I said one I got no whatsapp and should call me or text or email it to me, that person started asking why not and how much I need use them. People feels sometimes be unable be without their social media and phones even for minute. When I was young I had nokia brick that could run snake and had even built in video and audio player (whopping 128mb mmc card to files ). Thanks to price of cellular data it kept me away from it and spent actual time with friends which feels hard now. Was thinking making phone park to my house so peoples would not look their phone every third second since it beeps when visiting me since it is very annyoing. Also I miss p2p based instant messaging. Best you can do to find new simple sites is use Wiby search engine (I am not affiliated with it just found it) that only indexes simple and mostly personal sites. I found lot of sites I did not knew existed trough it. Also not to use Chromium based browsers since they are mostly made by google. I am using mypal trough all my Windows systems (since palemoon dropped classic addon support and main developer is anti XP) Yeah MSFN is pretty much best out there that is still left. I like board way of doing it, no need own name or profile picture plus can have signatures which is nice to have. Can talk with peoples all around the globe without needing have all personal data on profile. Just like in old days1 point

So after all, you do doubt my word for it , of course you are perfectly free to go along this line of behaviour, which - JFYI - I find both offending and uncalled for/confrontational, besides the unneeded use of capital letters to shout at me. And of course I don't have to demonstrate anything. You might want to refresh the reading of board Rules/Guidelines, with particular attention to #7.b and 11 https://msfn.org/board/guidelines/ jaclaz1 point

I imagine it's because of how about:config's naming scheme is set up - General Settings > User Agents > Overrides > [insert site here] Do be aware some sites may try to block you purely for the Windows NT 5.1/2/6.0 portion of the user agent string, this is usually due to ancient scraper bots using old 2008-era browser agents.1 point
