  1. A friend of mine was going to get the tube in Catania, Giuffrida Station, Italy, and he sent me this picture: and we're both pretty sure that it's Windows XP or one of its derivatives

  3. Due to the doubts and the incipient erroneous articles published on the Internet saying that Windows XP does not have updated browsers, I open this post indicating the complete information on all the companies or software programmers that make versions of browsers compatible with Windows XP. But first it is necessary to clarify some fundamental concepts. The first is that today there are only 2 Internet browser projects for Windows. The Chromium project and the Mozilla foundation. No, the basic existing browsers are not Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Opera abandoned its own "Presto" browser engine in 2012, Microsoft stopped developing its own browser known as Internet Explorer in 2015 & and later stopped developing its own motor in Edge in 2019. Now both the Opera browser and Microsoft's browser are based on the Chromium project. An open source database for developing a web browser, maintained by various companies that later use the source code to create their own version of the browser with additional features. Google develops Chrome and Microsoft develops Edge, same as multiple companies using the same codebase as above, for example Opera. None of these companies develops versions compatible with Windows XP but many others do, for many they are unknown companies but in China they generally work with Windows XP due to the delicacy of the manufacturing processes and the independent control provided by this operating system. By not needing direct connections with Microsoft and therefore with the US Government. There are many Chinese browsers based on both Chromium and Mozilla, the Chromium versions come with telemetry for the Chinese Government to know which websites you visit (Google also does it for the USA and stronger) but there are modified versions that have this capacity removed . There are also browsers from other places but they are less developed such as Otter Browser or RetroZilla. Based on Mozilla we can also find updated browsers even for Windows 2000, although for this system they have not passed the beta phase as forks of K-Meleon and PaleMoon developed by Roytam1. Sin embargo for Windows XP you can find several browsers modified to work on this operating system, whose versions are continuously updated. These come in English and many can be patched in another language. For Windows XP I recommend using the English Chromium-based versions, especially 360 Extreme Explorer modified version without telemetry, due to their speed compared to Mozilla-based browsers. User interface can be found in English and in Chinese. Multilanguage only come with Kafan MiniBrowser (except installer), Maxthon and UC Browser. If we want to view the web pages in other specific languages, we must also modify the language in which we want to view them by default. To work with Chromium it is essential that we understand the Windows certificate system, since the https web pages display depends on our Windows certificates being up to date. While for Mozilla-based browsers it is not necessary, since they are integrated into the browser itself and it is not necessary to update them independently. To update the Windows XP certificates, download a package updated by the Japanese @blackwingcat on its Windows Legacy Update website: http://win2k.org/wlu/wluen.htm We go to the manual update section and look for certificates. Unzip the file with 7-Zip or WinRar and then install it. Note: The files on this website come in a format that I have not been able to use in Spanish XP, even discussing it with the author. They may work in other languages but if not don't worry, unzip with 7-zip and install. Below I indicate which are the best developments for Windows XP and its base code version in April 2022. 6. I managed to integrate it. It's dirty way, but it seems good. It will be part of my offline Vista / Server 2008 Update Pack. At the end you get SysPreped ISO with all updates, PowerShell versions, .NETs and working Windows Update to receive Office updates or Drivers. This Update Pack tool should be relased in moth (hopefully)

  8. I'm probably not able to offer substantial help on this problem, being on Vista SP2 32-bit myself, but: IE9 has no issues here loading instantly the plain HTTP version of the logo: IE9 (with WS2008 fixes to enable it with TLS v1.2 support) has no issues instantly loading the secure (HTTPS) version of the logo: In the attachment I have also included the Certification Path; IE9, just like IE8/WinXP, uses the OS certstore: top is the Root CA [Sectigo (AAA)], then two intermediate certs, last is the server (helpforum.sky.com) cert; none of these four certs has been recently changed (updated/expired) ; below is server cert in question: What would be more relevant with your case is my attempt to load the "secure" logo in IE9 via ProxHTTPSProxyMII; as with previous tests, it has no issue whatsoever instantly loading that logo: But while standalone IE uses the OS certstore, when connecting through ProxHTTPSProxyMII it doesn't; it just trusts as Root CA the (manually imported) proxy's cert: How long ago was the last time you manually generated a fresh ProxHTTPSProxy CA? https://curl.se/docs/caextract.html says the most recent cacert.pem file was generated on May 25th 2021 04:12 BST; download file "cacert-2021-05-25.pem", rename it to cacert.pem and place it inside ProxHTTPSProxyMII's root directory (overwriting, if necessary); empty fully the Certs folder of its content; delete file CA.crt; launch once ProxHTTPSProxyMII: Close ProxHTTPSProxyMII and manually import the freshly generated CA.crt file into IE8; relaunch ProxHTTPSProxyMII and try anew... I have no clue why your copy of IE8 isn't able to load http://helpforum.sky.com/html/assets/sky-community-v6.png Have you changed recently any of your DNS settings? Perhaps your Anti-Malware solution is interfering? Grasping at straws on this... As for loading the secure version of the logo in IE8 without ProxHTTPSProxyMII, https://helpforum.sky.com/html/assets/sky-community-v6.png this isn't possible under XP, because SNI support is required (Vista+) ...

  10. Yes, see this January 25 post, but only the x86 WMP is affected. (I wonder if any third-party media software is also affected.) But if you want to watch videos using a Firefox version that requires Windows 7, then the Media Foundation files are necessary.

  11. May I ask which version exactly that is? CAA provides up to v0.3.8-Release (Jetpack SDK): caa:addon/canvasblocker/versions whereas AMO currently lists versions up to v1.5 (WE, requires patching manifest.json to install in latest St52): https://addons.mozilla.org/el/firefox/addon/canvasblocker/versions/ (v1.5 presumed to be the very same one referenced above by @Dr. Drill ), with v0.5.5 included ; according to AMO listing, v0.5.9 should be the last to natively support Fx52 ... Thanks for this ; also for the tip on the "ViewImageInfo" pref ; sadly, site admins are becoming very cunning in protecting their images nowadays, they use scripts to remove image-related context menu entries, hide them behind iframes, obfuscate direct URIs to images, even change file extensions... It is cases like these that View Page Info -> Media/View Page Source/Web Developer -> Web Console -> Net etc. become indispensable towards saving photos to disk... But this is (still) OT, so ending it here...

  12. Thank you @Dr. Drill. I will try it thorughly. My first try (I go for the tightest thing, always :P) has not been successful. For example, being tight I cannot login to to MSFN. @Sampei.Nihira, what say you, fratelo? Well, what is not China related, anyway?. The problem is never China (or Russia, or -do I dare to say, would they "legally" torture me for wondering so?- the USA). The issue at hand is: is it FOSS? Is it transparent? Can I check what you do? I look forward to see what your efforts on behalf of this small community will bring to a better future, @roytam1. Seriously.

  18. From what I've seen regarding next release is just GUI and Store changes. No "real" changes under the hood, just the way it "looks" and the Store (which I axe anyway).

  19. I'm skeptical on the whole thing like I was with Windows 10. I've been using Windows 10 as a daily driver for a year now and even though I'm not fond of it, it drives a lot of the programs I've been running. So while it's not bad, it's not awesome and I've had more problems with it than my beloved Windows 2000. But of course as we've seen time and time again from Microsoft, there are usually a lot of bugs and stability issues with vanilla releases of Windows and don't really improve until the service packs start rolling out. It would be nice to see actual service packs again rather than these continuous rolling updates. Windows 10 never felt finished because of this update method. A small thing I miss is the ability to really tweak the user interface and use real themes. I don't care for the flatness of Windows 10 and prefer above anything, the Windows Classic theme which was completely removed. Even Aero had a bit more character than the Windows 10 theme. So I don't really expect that to change judging from the screenshots I've seen so far. But of course the big thing will be functionality and we'll have to see what the system requirements are to run the OS but I'm assuming they won't be too different from Windows 10. Probably anything that can run Vista smoothly will most likely be able to run Windows 11. For anyone that wants a little more information: https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/3/22466394/microsoft-windows-11-launch-teaser-rumors I would have to agree that launching a whole new Windows would be a smart move, considering that like the article says, new versions of Windows spark more PC sales and considering the whole Covid mess over the past year and a half and many US citizens receiving stimulus checks from the government, it could potentially nudge people who saved some of that money to buy a new computer. That's just my thought though.

  23. With all due respect, probably because the older software still performs perfectly and is licensed for life, while an upgrade would require a new and expensive license just for show purposes, since it adds nothing really needed. Do you think people are made of money?
