  1. (Edit: Please refer to the next post. I was too quickly on the keyboard here... sorry!) Hm... a new millenium bug hystery? I just tested this on my old XP machine (Pentium 3 with XP SP2), switching the date in my computers BIOS to 13th of May 2021 to see if it "expires"... no, it didn't. All drivers were still in place and did their job. Networking worked fine. I recall some troubles, if the BIOS battery on old computers is dead, then it sets the date back to 1980, and then plenty of HTTPS certificates were broken. Maybe you've noticed some files on your hard drive have the edit date 01.01.1980, which were probably created on a computer with a broken BIOS battery. But nothing of that happend in this case.

  2. Only official Mozilla applications are entitled/authorised to use the Mozilla (Firefox) Sync infrastructure (and are thus allowed to carry the Mozilla-specific "authentication key" that enables connections with MozSync servers) ... In its initial life, Basilisk 52/UXP by MCP did have that auth-key, so its users could (ab)use Mozilla Sync servers (and sync between mobile Fx, too); but at a later point, Moonchild decided to "right the wrong" (basically, to keep Mozilla out of his back yard ) and newer Bk52 builds lost the ability to connect to MozSync... In any way, as Bk52 progressed further away from FxESR 52.9 (while Fx itself was moving quickly into its "Quantum" days), what could be synced safely between the two applications (via MozSync) was reduced to bookmarks, browsing history, browsing session, perhaps passwords; full profile sync (e.g. include installed extensions) was not possible, what was indeed probable was profile corruption if a user did not pay attention... As Basilisk 52 was eventually transformed into a "clone" (minus a few bits) of Pale Moon (but with the Australis interface), the two MCP apps now use Pale Moon Sync (MCP-maintained/owned) and can sync data between them; since mobile versions of the two do not exist, that leaves out syncing between a mobile device... UXP-based @roytam1's browsers, like NM28/Serpent52, also use the Pale Moon Sync infra (I suspect MCP aren't that enthused), but there exist at least two other "roytam1's browsers" that, AFAICT, are able to use Mozilla Sync: His Firefox 45esr fork, aimed at old hardware (CPU without SSE2) users, and his Serpent 55 fork ! Serpent 55 was initially based on MCP's Basilisk 55/Moebius project, later abandoned in favour of Basilisk52/UXP; despite the "55", it was forked off a Mozilla Firefox 53.0a1 code snapshot... St55 currently is a "test" application, code from UXP and a few other projects is being applied to it; is updated by Roy at least once every month... It currently has better features compared to Fx 52esr, especially in the TLS/HTTPS section (has support for final TLS v1.3), has more Web Extension APIs compared to Serpent 52, but doesn't carry many of the recent WebAPIs St52 does; e.g. , https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/src/adblock.html doesn't work in St55 (because of missing AbortAPI) ... And since Bk55 was "touched" () by MCP, St55 has been "optimised" to work as single-process application (I say this in case you are running FxESR 52 under XP with the "e10s hack"...). So, you can at least "trial" Serpent 55 on your XP partition without (hopefully) losing your Mozilla Sync "workflow" . In the longer run, you should definitely consider migrating to Serpent 52, sooner rather than later... A member in the official PM forums has recently posted that Basilisk 52 supports the third-party Sync solution called "EverSync", and the same stands true for St52: https://www.everhelper.me/synchronizer.php https://www.everhelper.me/everhelperplans.php https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fvd-synchronizer/ Their "For Firefox" extension is compatible with St52, you have to register an account with them (but the same is true for MozSync); they advertise that you can sync data between "any computer and any browser"; the same, supposedly, is true for mobile devices, once you install there their Android app - their free plan looks promising... BTW: I have no affiliation with them in the slightest, nor do I use any of their offerings (); just pointing out that Sync "solutions" do exist outside of MozSync... My best regards

  4. All versions of Cinebench R10, R11, R15, R20. R15 seems to support 64bit only. So R11 is last version.

  6. Yes, Dave, I was expecting a page to come up with all the updates available as it used to be in IE (I realized this morning I have activeX disabled anyway lol). I'm able to search and download updates with no issues. However, as I share your instinct(s) - I'll leave well enough alone so long as this old Ford Pinto starts up and still shifts into "drive". That being said.. I bookmarked the "Portable Update" tool in case the need be to give life support to this beast Cheers EDIT: Ok I found it - sorry for my ignorance I downloaded the tool and enabled the services (I thought) were/are required and the log is as shows after running it 5 times. 30/04/2021 11:51:29 AM 1272 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:51:38 AM 532 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:51:49 AM 380 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:52:17 AM 1620 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp 30/04/2021 11:53:17 AM 912 Main error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable - PortUp Below was from the first link on that page on our forum. I'll have to put on my 'thinking cap' for this one I seems. I found a good deal online for a 'thinking cap' as I have a coupon somewhere in my dresser drawer still ... hopefully anyway FINAL EDIT: (I promise - I guess I'm not as dumb as I look) Turns out: I had to (also) enable (as I usually have it disabled) DCOM Server Process Launcher - and boomshakalaa - 6 updates available.

  7. Yes I could, but I'm not sure which one I would try! My instinct is to just let well alone!

  9. Just for interest, I thought I would try out the "Portable Update" tool referenced in this post. It does seem to work fine still, and downloaded a new wsusscn2.cab file, containing updates from this month. The tool lists all my installed updates, and says I don't need any, which is almost certainly correct, but surely if it did decide I needed any, it wouldn't work anyway as that cab isn't SHA-1 signed? I would be interested to see what it would do if I tried to use it!

  10. Server 2003 and Windows XP X64 shared updates, so you need to install the KB3072630 update, the CRYPT32.DLL file version will be 5.131.3790.5668. Windows XP has a KB2868626 update with the version of the Crypt32.dll file 5.131.2600.6459. This is another normal update, not PosReady.

  11. you need a hex editor to remove the win7 requirement and need the cfg file to prevent it from updating.

  12. In my experience, ReadyBoost is great for a day or two, but it always has destroyed the cache media. If you aren't actually going to use it to run cache media, then it should be disabled.

  13. Update: The www.update.microsoft.com site has now been resigned with a SHA384 certificate signed on April 27. Microsoft has now also deployed HSTS on the site. The site supports TLS 1.2 and higher, with the weakest cipher being TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.update.microsoft.com

  15. Whichever builds aren't from 2015-2017. Windows 10 literally broke almost a dozen times for me on the PC it was included on. When I used it on my Thinkpad R60 at one point, it broke one day with no way to repair itself. Didn't make a difference installing on a Dell Latitude e4310 compared to Windows 7, except java crashed for no reason using Windows 10. The later versions are far more stable (just like Windows Vista).

  16. any LTSB/LTSC version for me since most of my old PCs were not tested for Win10 compatibility but are able to run any of the LTSB/C releases without problems plus LTSB 2015/2016 & LTSC 2019 get up to ten years of support

  17. i really like server 2008 because its based on vista and vista is the best version of windows as long as your computer can handle running it mine cant even run server 2008 but that could also be that my computer is a laptop and not a server

  18. If I may play devil's advocate for a moment: out of fairness to Windows 10, it has gotten a bit better than the RTM release. And I'd also like to point out that XP wasn't always the "gleaming pinnacle of perfection" that many see it as nowadays; In fact, back in 2003-2004, I recall it was actively despised, and often criticized as being slower than the versions it replaced, namely 2000 and 98 SE (which was still pretty much 100% usable back then). It did improve with time, however, and once SP2 came out and multi core PCs became more commonplace, XP matured quite nicely. It would be nice if 10 would follow the same progression and actually become a mature, decent product, but so far, it hasn't.... Be that as it may, even after almost six years, I still don't like 10, and I won't use it (I actually did try for awhile, but it broke on me, and rather than going through the effort to reinstall, I decided to wipe it and install Linux in its place). Fortunately, because my primary is Mac OS, I don't really have a need for everything to work 100% on any older Windows, thus having the luxury to tinker with and hack up any Windows of my choosing ad infinitum . c

  19. Interesting question..... I really can't decide on a version because I genuinely think Windows 10 as being the biggest load of crap that we have had to put up with.... XP and Windows 7 were the closest that Microsoft have got to being good....but we all have different opinions on that and I respect all opinions.... Sorry, could not bring myself to picking a version.... bookie32

  20. Highly dependent on hardware compatibility. For example my Lenovo Y50-70 is not 100% compatible with Lastest Version of Win10 (bugs with audio control, reorder desktop icons, etc.). Win10 1607 (Aniversary) yes is compatible and I do not have those problems I prefer Win8.0 but now I am testing Win10 LTSB 2016 (I managed to install the modern calculator XD). Soon I will test the Win10 LTSB 2015 ... --- Reorder desktop icons bug with Win10 versions greater than 1607:

  21. I've never found any reason not to use the latest released version. I do worry that one day I will not be allowed to update any further as my old hardware is deemed to be incompatible, but it's not happened yet!
