NONE will work in Supermium. NONE will work in Thorium. NONE will work in Ungoogled Chromium. YOU MUST USE OFFICIAL CHROME OR OFFICIAL FIREFOX if you want Netflix to work with WINDOWS! There is no way around it because Netflix links a "browser" .sig file with your browser's Widevine .sig file. What you are trying to do is bybass the "browser" .sig file - this cannot be done in WINDOWS. It can, however, be done in LINUX. Only OFFICIAL CHROME and OFFICIAL FIREFOX have the MONEY to PAY for the .sig file! 360Chrome, Supermium, Thorium, and Ungoogled Chromium do not have the MONEY to PAY for the .sig file. 1
This means W7 minimum + Firefox ESR (up to march 2025). 1
DrWho3000 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 can the .sig files not be copied over from google to Thorium or is this not only tied to widevine/browser but also hardware controlled how do know which level off widevine you have L1 L2 L3

I think only the application can show this (if coded) Edit: https://oukitel.com/blogs/news/widevine-l1-support-what-is-it-how-to-check I haven't try, but there is google play store application to check it. An some releases ago, L1 wasn't available on Firefox based browsers, don't know for now. Edited October 21, 2024 by seven4ever

Did you actually want to write "many years" ? AFAICR, WidevineCDM never worked in any official release Firefox version that supported Windows XP; the module itself lacks patented decoders and on Firefox it relies on WMF's ones (Vista SP2+PlatformUpdateSupplement and higher); yes, it would work in Google Chrome 49 (which itself bundles patented decoders), but support for XP in the module itself was removed soon after the demise of Chrome 49 (both it and FxESR 52.9.0 had support for WV v1.4.8.903[signed 20160709]); current versions of WV (4.10.xxxx.0) require at minimum Cr69, but this number is probably of little practical significance now, as most DRM services (websites) are designed to work in quite recent Chrome versions... Some Reddit posts mention it should be available on (Chr)Edge (via PlayReady 3.0) on Win11, but I'm not even sure this is correct; basically, for L1 DRM on Windows [10?] 11 you need a compatible GPU/CPU with TEE (decryption chip) and the latest (Netflix) app from the Windows App Store... For reference (though from 2.5yrs ago) : read this ; as a rule of thumb, WV L1 is restricted to mobile devices (phones/tablets), STBs and Smart TVs... Edited November 11, 2024 by VistaLover 1
UCyborg Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 I cannot personally confirm this, but I've read on Reddit that PlayStation 3 still does Netflix in 2024.
Al mo Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 (edited) New user here, not a computer nerd but learning as I go. Still using Windows Vista 32bit and have downloaded & installed Supermium, unfortunately cannot see it in start up menu, any ideas? Also would Thorium be any better? Holding off Windows 10 for as long as possible as would have to get a new desktop as well. Any help appreciated 👍 Edited November 17, 2024 by Al mo
Dave-H Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Welcome to MSFN! Did you use the supplied installer for Supermium? That should certainly have generated the necessary shortcut to run it. I started with Supermium, but on XP x86 its RAM use was excessive, and tabs would sometimes crash as the memory was exhausted. Then I tried Thorium, and that seemed to be better with RAM. Unfortunately, Supermium then moved on, and Thorium didn't, which meant that I was missing things that I wanted on Thorium which were there on Supermium, so I went back to Supermium. The memory usage problem hasn't gone away, but I am living with it! It only affects memory hungry sites like Instagram and Facebook. 1
Al mo Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I used Softpedia which had some hangups then tried Major Geeks which worked. I can see Supermium in programme list and files but cannot get it onto startup list, it didn't create a shortcut either.
Dave-H Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Download the setup file (I assume you want 32 bit) from here - https://github.com/win32ss/supermium/releases/download/v126-r5/supermium_126_32_setup.exe That should set everything up properly, it did for me. The only thing you can't do on XP (and presumably Vista too) is use the built-in facility to make it the default browser. This is off-topic of course here in the Thorium thread BTW, if you need further help with setting up Supermium, please post in the Supermium thread. 1
UCyborg Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 (edited) Guess Alex has other priorities. His Thorium build for Win10+ is at 128, this caught my eye (source): Quote Limits of MV3 were removed. A MV3 extension like UBlock Origin Lite, if it were coded to take advantage of Thorium, now has limits on declarativeNetRequest that are similar to MV2. Thorium still intends to restore MV2 code when the time comes, but I thought this would be an interesting experiment. I might try to fork Ublock, so if you're interested in this, watch my GitHub account for a new repo. Edited November 17, 2024 by UCyborg 1
