Another thing - as experiment I enabled the memory.free_dirty_pages . Would this be like the memory_saver option in Supermium/Chrome?

No  :

PS: I realise people on old/weak H/W (like myself :P), in an attempt to squeeze more out of the browser, often turn to "about:config" for custom modifications of one or more "advanced" prefs (in the expectation they can potentially make their "old" box behave like a "recent" one ) ; besides the fact these "about:config" prefs are primarily directed at devs (and should not be tinkered by plain users), they are often poorly documented now (because MDN  have a nasty habit of removing old documentation), so one can't be 100% sure what the actual/future ramifications of such a change will be; often times, it's just a placebo effect, at best ("I" manually modified the default value, so it "must" have improved performance); in the past, I used to do that myself a lot, but over the years I ended up with the conviction that leaving prefs at their default settings (configured by Mozilla devs) is probably the best policy ;) ; but this is just me...

AGREED !!!

I would add that OFTEN TIMES, those placebo-effect changes also make the browser LESS compatible than it already was.

ie, we know that SOME TIMES the reason a captcha can't be passed is BECAUSE OF these types of placebo-effect changes.

I know I should LINK to one of those discussions where one of these had to be REVERTED in order to pass a captcha, I just don't have the energy to hunt one down at the moment.

It went fast here (~7.0MB/s).

You guys must have *VERY* slow internet connections!  The download is *SO FAST* here that it is *done downloading* in a split second, I delete the download to try to catch it again, and I simply cannot catch the speed, the download is *done* before I can even move my eyes to the display of download speed.

Not to brag, lol, and this is the SLOWEST plan that my fiber optic ISP provides, and it is CHEAPER than the cable plan I used to be on.

Fiber optic is less than a year old in my town, cable company was a MONOPOLY that I'm glad to no longer be a customer of.

500 Mbps and that's with my standard four video streams playing in the background.
