Extreme Explorer 360 Chromium 78-86 General Discussion

  • 1 month later...

Greetings to all MSFN members.

I have noticed that most MSFN members have great hardware at their disposal.
It would be interesting to see if it is possible in the browser to lighten the CPU work to the advantage of the GPU and thus improve the browsing experience.
First we need to verify if the hardware acceleration works:

chrome://gpu

If hardware acceleration works, whether it can be improved via 2 experimental flags (if any):

"GPU rasterization"

"Zero-copy rasterizer"

the difference with the 2 active flags is visible in the following images:

1.jpg

2.jpg

Some more info on your GPU from the GPU-Z software that follows in the footsteps of its more famous big brother, which I assume runs on Windows XP:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

You will forgive me as always if I can no longer verify this information directly, even at work we no longer have Windows XP available.

No such thing as working hardware acceleration in Chrome on XP that I've seen in real life.

Edit: someone got it working with old Chrome and WineD3D, but it seems to be hit or miss at best.

Thanks for the reply can you check the sequence below for me:

  • Right click on the desktop, then in the context menu, click on Properties
  • Click on the Settings tab, then click on Advanced.
  • Troubleshooting tab
  • Move the hardware acceleration slider to the third notch or higher.
  • OK - close

And check in Chrome as well?
TH.:hello:

P.S. Has anyone heard from Feodor2? :(

@Sampei.Nihira
I played with the slider in the past to see what it does, seems to disable certain operations related to screen rendering, not sure how if/it relates to Direct3D, would have to try again. I know D3D acceleration can be disabled separately via dxdiag (DirectX Diagnostic Tool).

The thing with Chrome is that it needs Direct3D9Ex APIs (Vista+) while XP only has regular Direct3D9.

First we need to verify if the hardware acceleration works:

I'm up to NINE computers and they are all i3 or older except for one i7.

Hardware acceleration does NOT work on any of them!  I have ZERO performance gain with hardware acceleration and TONS of graphics issues when I enable it.

9 times out of 10, if you have issues you are researching, the FIRST suggestion is ALWAYS to "disable hardware acceleration".

I personally would never suggest anybody to enable hardware acceleration - "mileage may vary".

"GPU rasterization"

"Zero-copy rasterizer"

Can't say I notice any difference during normal browsing.

Some writeup on texture uploads related to zero-copy rasterizer. Perhaps it's more relevant for Intel CPUs with onboard GPU. This might be another hint that it might be completely irrelevant on Windows.

Sessions copies disappear
I have Tab Session Manager installed in "360 Extreme Explorer" as an extension to recover tabs in case of system failure, although I often use the combination "control+shift+T" to restore tabs when they are closed randomly.
However, every few months when I get a blue screen or crash, "control+shift+T" stops working, so that's when I start working with Tab Session Manager. But when I open the extension there are no saved browsing sessions, they are all gone. This has always happened to me when I have the problem, so the extension does not work for me.
I would like to know how to recover these lost sessions, both the copies saved in Chrome folders and the copies saved by Tab Session Manager.
Do you know an extension to save tabs that does work?

From what I see that isn't the latest version of the browser.

Download the latest from here --> https://archive.org/details/360EE_Modified_Version

I think pressing the Escape key was the solution to that problem (only at the very first run of the browser).

Cheers.

Thanks now it works.

how do I put in widevine in to 360EE

It's not possible because XP version is off on Google server.
You can watch Netflix DRM on NewMoon with Silverlight
(Firefox 49-52 no longer works well on normal Netflix webpage)
(HBO does not work with Silverlight)

On menu Tools+Clear browsing data is the option  "Automatic clear the selected".

What does this option?

It said...

"To make the exit more efficient, clean the browser cache first. Click the button to clear"

That option sets 360Chrome to clear the selected items each and every time that you close 360Chrome.

The click the button dialog is because the very first time that a user sets this, they could have selected items in the GIGABYTE range, so the prompt is to clear that 'now' instead of waiting for the next closing of 360Chrome.
