WinClient5270 Posted April 14, 2019 Author Posted April 14, 2019 Thanks @Vistapocalypse (and others) for contributing to and keeping this topic alive while I've been away! Finally got around to updating it, so I reckon it's about time I post one of these (albeit, short): SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO THE LIST FOR APRIL 13, 2019: Updated status of Skype v7.36.x: this version no longer works on XP/Vista as of April 2019, meaning that XP/Vista users effectively can no longer use Skype (desktop). Added MediaPortal to "DVR/PVR software" section. 2

Thank god that the latest version of ts still runs on vista. Didn't see your post until just now, but Telegram Desktop also still works with Windows XP and Vista, I use it myself and it works fine: https://desktop.telegram.org/ However, it doesn't support group voice calling or video chat yet, but you can at least call people on it like you could with Skype, and of course you can IM/Group IM with it. Vistapocalypse Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 It looks like ZoneAlarm has officially ended support. There is a notice for Windows XP but not Vista. Norton Security users running Windows Vista recently received Norton Security 22.15.2.22 update for Windows XP/Vista. 1

It’s possible that this restricting functionality doesn’t work outside of China. Yes, it is a Chinese product. To use it or not is a personal matter. For me, this is a great program, bringing a modern engine to Vista :) 2

And for this you need motivation. The code for supporting old OS was removed from Chromium, and the new one was written without such support. In theory, everything is possible. In practice, we have what we have.

The fact Maxthon 5 and 360 browser appears to use Chromium 69 makes me wonder if there's an open-source version available on the internet in Chinese...I don't know enough Mandarin to properly search

Therefore, a compatible Chinese version of Chromium may not exist. I am glad to know that Maxthon still supports XP and Vista. By and large - it’s quite realistic to find out the addresses that the browser is accessing and block them in the system. You can update the browser manually, when neccesary. In the meantime, it has not been updated - new tracking points will not appear. Personally, I don’t care about tracking. I do not think that the Chinese are going to harm someone through the Internet. But I am worried about unauthorized network activity - the use of computer resources without my knowledge, which is really characteristic of unwanted software. But with this you can cope, if desired. The support of these browsers for old systems is due to practical necessity - in China, the largest number of computers with XP, more than anywhere else in the world, and they need a modern browser, it turned out to be easier to maintain compatibility than to change hardware to a new one. Vistapocalypse Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Does anyone know if Avast Free v.18.8 (the last version for Windows Vista) is still usable after installing last month's Windows 6.0.6003 updates?
