... And he's actually right; the last standalone file "VC_redist.x86.exe" provided by MS that will install out-of-the-box on Vista SP2 32-bit is of version 14.31.30919.0:

https://download.visualstudio.microsoft.com/download/pr/8c1c2dbb-0856-4dc3-b863-b16c637bc245/E55681B9E07A58F7143E5AB5941F45DE0B485E0C9933B0CB6B702D3921F48527/VC_redist.x86.exe

Subsequent versions 14.31.31005.0, 14.31.31103.0, 14.32.31302.0, 14.32.31326.0 and 14.32.31332.0 had their installers blocked from launching under Vista SP2, but their "payload"/content (various DLLs) continued to remain Vista-compatible ; next version 14.34.31823.3 had several of its DLLs contain Win7+ function calls  :( ...

So, the last of abbodi1406's vcredist AIO custom pack with full/proper Vista SP2 support is v0.6.1 (2022-06-21):

https://github.com/abbodi1406/vcredist/releases/download/v0.61.0/VisualCppRedist_AIO_x86_x64_61.zip

What point would there be in doing so :o? Its VS2022 DLLs are incompatible with Vista and, if force-installed, would fully break all apps requiring the VS2015-2022 runtime :( ...

so vcruntime wont work at all on vista anymore? if not are there any good alternatives to this?

BTW does that also apply to Vista with Extended Kernel?

Is that an error? Missing APIs?

No, it still installs and works normally.

And surprisingly, it also still installs and works on XP, even if XP isn't mentioned.

You could install it on XP? Here, installer spammed access violation errors and couldn't get to the installing part, got stuck at the page selecting type of installation (who knows, missing updates or something borked), but ZIP version indeed launched and could play a FLAC file and adding a podcast accessible via plain HTTP works. HTTPS could be problematic.

Removed ONG status from AIMP; added AIMP 5.00.2344 as last version for Windows Vista.

The download page still says Windows Vista - Windows 11 for current version 5.11.2427. Is that an error? Missing APIs?

If you navigate to AIMP's Old versions page for Windows, you'll hopefully see that Vista SP2 support was withdrawn, starting with v5.01.2358 (Release date: 28.12.2021), so @WinClient5270 was right to pick out v5.00.2344 (Release date: 09.11.2021) as the Vista EoS one ;) ; however, in a move quite rare these days, Vista SP2 support was re-instated, starting with v5.10.2418 (Release date: 21.12.2022) :thumbup ...

Looks like XP and Vista were mentioned in the changelog for 5.10.2408 Beta 2.

I see, didn't check before.

You might want to read this thread on AIMP Forum.

... Thanks, I can't read Russian ;) , so I used:

https://www-aimp-ru.translate.goog/forum/index.php?topic=69488&_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=el&_x_tr_pto=wapp

Having read the translation, I did not find answers as to why Vista SP2 support has been reinstated (but I'm not complaining, obviously ;) ); the thread basically talks about AIMP-v5.x's inability to integrate with the OS under WinXP (i.e., establish 1) media file associations and 2) access to Windows Explorer's Context Menu ); and I was also reminded of XP's excellent file association editor, one thing I strongly lamented :( when I moved to Vista (on Vista+, it's quite a PITA to remove/delete already established file associations; I had to resort to a third party app  ...).

It was done for compatibility with Linux, well, technically, WINE on Linux, pre-Windows 7 compatibility was not the goal, just the side effect. One post in the linked thread from my previous post was quoted here.

I know not everyone understands Russian, I just posted the link to the source material, people may use whatever they want to translate.

... Oh that :P ... I did pass by this post in the thread you linked originally, but must have not put 1+1 together :blushing: at the time:

Is it possible, but is it necessary? WinXP is dead. It even does not normally pull dual-core processors.
I did compatibility with old Windows only because of Linux.

In any case, I lost interest in whatever additional Artem had to say in that post, once the dreaded "WinXP is dead" was brought up  ; which might be a true thing according to Microsoft, but, at the same time, gives out a lot about the app author's intentions towards EoS'ed WinOSes :realmad: ... At the end of the day, hooray for WINE (on Linux) :cheerleader:!

Of course, and no need to get defensive (if you did) ;) ; I just pointed out that "I" can't read Russian and also included the "whatever" I used to translate it... All's fine :)!

Best wishes.
