  1. Did I read it correctly that you don't want Tbird to change when you enable Aero? There seems to be a few different add-ons for Tbird that have this or similar effect. Here is one I found: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/ignore-aero/ Here is the search terms I put into google: Mozilla thunderbird skin aero
  2. I would not see a thread titled "Windows 10 is god awful" as being constructive.
  3. It certain could... You'll have to wait and see.
  4. You need to know your router's internal IP address. This should be seen on the PC if you go to CMD and run ipconfig -all and it will be the default gateway address. I will use an example that it is 192.168.1.1. At a point where you cannot access the internet, you run this in the CMD: ping 192.168.1.1 Where, the IP address you ping is the IP shown as the Default Gateway. If you can ping this address, it means you have communication with your router. You can additionally try these ping commands: ping google.com ping 216.58.219.206
  5. I removed your link and your attachment. We have rules against that sort of advertisement.
  6. Is the router running DHCP or are you using static IP on your computer? When you lose connection to the router, can you still ping it?
  7. I was recently forced into installing Skype so that I could still use my Live account for IMs. I had been using Trillian previously (and still do for AOL) however MS has shut off all the external interfaces into the Live/MSN Messenger network, rending third party or legacy software versions useless for IM.
  8. On that note (the Pando scenario) ... you may be able to disable any sort of peer-to-peer sharing by using the Firewall and using an outbound UDP rule.
  9. Based on past experience, I'd consider having a removable battery to be essential. Androids seem to have a habit of eventually locking up and a battery reseat is the only way to recover. Also, I don't like devices where you can't replace the battery... Apple brings this up with the Ipod/phone products... where if the battery needs to be replaced you just have to buy a whole new phone instead.
  10. My go-to setting for Windows Updates is the "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" option. I haven't really used Windows 10 to any large extent, is that no longer an option?
  11. Welcome to the MSFN!
  12. Stefan I fixed your link... I think maybe your use of brackets in posting must have confused the forum software to not render that second link properly. Anyways, it is fine for others to have an opinion of something... I don't get all the hate... at least so far these newer versions of Windows can still be modified to fit your own desires.
  13. It is never a good idea to install driver updates from Windows Update.
  14. My main complaint about OneDrive now is that you can't just click a box and upload. For Windows 7 you need to have the program installed, which then designates a folder that synchs with the online storage. That's fine for if I am on that one computer, but then I can't use other computers to upload files to that.
  15. I would consider them partially the same, or fairly similar. An account is more than just what its name is. Personally, I handle workgroup sharing in one of two ways: 1. On the host, add the ComputerName\Account of the client to a User Group. That group then is what is assigned share permissions. Using a group allows you to add multiple remote accounts into it without having to revisit permissions per user. 2. On the host, create a local useraccount for a client to use to log into a share.
  16. That's exactly what happens if you update Windows 8 to 8.1 from the Store. It downloads the entire OS and then ports everything over. It is not a method I would prefer.
  17. I've seen this happening on Windows 7 systems recently. Some update is included that makes the Service Pack appear and the reason being is a pre-requisite is missing. I know what it is for Windows 7 because I have done the testing for it... It was a manual labor-type task.
  18. An experienced answer is... it depends on the company and how they are doing things. An outsider may view their practices as being incorrect. Another answer is that "your account" (if it is a domain or email account) is not really yours, it is owned by the company. If it were me, I would say that there is no reason to know a user's password. I feel that writing down passwords is fairly secure... maybe not so much on a sticky note.
  19. Your results show 10 but only showing 6. What happens if you click "See more results."
  20. Easy pass for me. Maybe when they hire someone to proofread their blurbs I might consider.
  21. The ideal situation would be to create an account in AD which only has the ability to join PCs to the domain. This account would not have access to network shares or any other sensitive admin functions. Then there would be no problem leaving a plain-text password in your XML. Otherwise, if you create your answer file with WSIM, and set the PlainText to be false, WSIM will hash the password when you save the .XML.
  22. Drivers are a simple approach. You find the Hardware ID for the device you want to install, then find which driver has that HwID in it. There are various ways to get the HwID, from installing another OS, booting a PE and running something like DevManView, or booting DOS and running PCISCAN.
  23. In MS world, Downgrade is a licensing term. Server and Desktop OS are on separate paths. I do not think you can do a repair install with an XP Pro disc on an existing installation of Server 2003. It might be possible to trick the installer, but that would be work for some testing system and NOT something you'd want to do on a production system.
  24. Windows XP is going the way of FrankenWindows, just like Win9x... where you have parts of other OSes mixed in.
  25. I have never heard of a problem with servers of different CPU manufacturers being in the same network.
