POSReady 2009 updates ported to Windows XP SP3 ENU
Tripredacus replied to glnz's topic in Windows XP
I forgot to note this the other day. Embedded OS has a separate installer for .NET Framework (at least 2.0 I know for sure) much like IE. So if I were to need to update an XPe image with .NET Framework updates, I wouldn't go to Windows Update to do it. Those files come from the website that the Embedded OS is downloaded from. -
Well... that game was designed for DOS... doesn't it even work with DOSBox at full screen?

Some posts from this thread were moved to a new thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173780-windows-10-built-in-advertising-discussion/ Try to keep this thread about aeroglass on Windows 10. If you have other things related to Windows 10, it would be better put into the Windows 10 section.

It is becoming apparent that Windows 10 will/may include some built-in advertising space, similar to what has previously been seen with some Office 2013 and 365 installations. Advertising is something that many people do not care for or find intrusive. Some people fear that maybe these ads will be targetted like those run by Google or Facebook. In the Google example, search histories using Google, or activity on any of its sites (G+, Youtube) help to determine what advertisements you see. In some cases, you will get location based ads, such as ads from companies where you live. Facebook's ads are based on what content you create or appears in your profile. You can actually play with this by creating a post and then you will see Facebook load up related ads! In my opinion, if Microsoft were to implement advertisement, it would likely be in relation to its services. What you activity on MS websites were, what you searched for in Bing. I would find it unlikely that they would track your history from IE or what you were doing on other websites or in other browsers! However it is still a small concern (larger to others) who have noticed the trend of MS sneaking in updates disguised as performance or bug fixes, only to be found out that it may contain software to update your Windows to another version. People generally like to stay with what they are comfortable with and do not like the idea of a change being made without their consent or input. This thread is for discussion relating to Windows 10's advertising behaviour. The previous posts were split from another thread so to keep that one on topic. These posts have retained the differing opinions on this, but please make sure to keep the discussion civil!

This already is a problem for people who bought Windows 8 on an OEM computer. Even if they did get or make the recovery DVD... anyone that updated to Windows 8.1 would have to recover back to Windows 8. Then they'd have to fight with Windows Update and the Store to get back up to 8.1/Update 1, etc. To make matters worse, there was some sort of change in between the time Windows 8.1 came out and say... 6 months ago. The recovery becomes "broken" in a way that they can't run it properly. Originally, if you updated to 8.1, you could run recovery/Refresh from the hard disk and get Win 8 back on. Now if you try to do that, the recovery program will alert you that it can't find the recovery image, even if the partition with the WIM is still present. So then it will ask for you to insert the Windows DVD... BUT it won't accept a Windows 8 DVD, it only will take a Windows 8.1 DVD which the end-user wouldn't have. Fortunately, the 8.1 DVD it will take is not entirely picky. You don't need the OEM Recovery DVD, I've also been able to have it use one of the System Builder DVDs. It is possible other ones like Retail or VL would work as well, but the edition needs to be the same. You can't use a Core or Enterprise DVD to recover a Pro installation. Using a different DVD does not change how the OS is licensed (retail, oem, sbk, vl) if you do a refresh. It might if you did the full recovery but that takes a long time so I've never tested it.

You are never free from danger, but for years webmail was always more secure... for a few reasons... Most top flight webmails (gmail, yahoo, hotmail/outlook.com) are designed so that they block certain things. Images, scripts, etc. They also usually have antivirus built-in to scan attachments. They also are driven on user feedback as to what is and what isn't spam. Most will automatically filter into a junk folder where the restrictions on messages are even more severe. It will block everything except for text unless you say otherwise. Outlook (from Office) and Outlook Express had a bad reputation when it came to security FOR YEARS. Their default behaviour was to run anything in the email itself (javascript, active-x controls, etc) once it was opened for viewing. Its another reason why Thunderbird and other such email clients got so popular... they didn't do this. The individual clients had no user-contributed checklist to filter out bad messages, phishing, virus emails, all that stuff. Email certainly has been getting better over the years.

Questions about UHD monitor and related components
Tripredacus replied to grancharov's topic in Hardware Hangout
The native resolution for that display, per the link is 3840x2160. According to newegg (presuming it is the correct model) the max resolution is 2560 x 1600. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102940 I do not know whether or not you can get more resolution out of the video card by using different drivers. Looking at this example, there is a performance rating score for an HD 6770 running at 3840x2160, so I would presume it is possible... but maybe not the ideal solution. http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/?gid=1844&graphics=Radeon%20HD%206770%20Crossfire I also read in some spots, that maximum resolution may depend on which port is used to connect, like DisplayPort/HDMI/etc. -
In the future if you feel your question would have been better asked in another forum, please PM a moderator an ask that the topic be moved rather than creating a new topic.

Win7 router config page - no access
Tripredacus replied to Luxman's topic in Networks and the Internet
I have doubts that it is directly related to the OS. I wonder what web technologies the internal server is using.... CGI? Java? Maybe they use some hack that IE8 can use but newer (more updated) browsers do not? Many ways to approach it. You can look here (if it is the same model you have) ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/VSG1432-B101/support_note/VSG1432-B101_1.0.pdf On (PDF) page 12, it shows how you can use telnet to configure it. -
Windows 2012 R2 Standard Network Issue
Tripredacus replied to anura_cancerian's topic in Windows Server
Verify they are in the same IP scope and subnet. Can the servers get to anywhere through the network? -
Has anyone looked at the mini/memory dumps that Windows creates?
-
Noel, do you even participate in the CEIP? I personally uncheck that whenever I first see it. If that is the case, you would figure that Windows Update would not offer KB2976978 to any computer where it isn't enabled.

You already have a topic here about this: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/155700-editing-windows-7-setup-images-need-help/ However I can tell you that no one here will be helping you because of the possibility that you could be developing warez, as you do have a connection with such things. We can't help you with this problem.

Maybe irrelevant to MS or other companies, but we are seeing that there is an XP (and soon to be 7 I bet) community developing in the same vein as the 9x community. So all is not lost.

Seems to be a VIA or S3 chip: http://www.via-drivers.com/download-86C584-vgas3-driver-for-WindowsXP-32bit.html

Do not make the same post in multiple topics.

Do you want to use just the driver or the software? Are you using a RAID array?

[RESOLVED]Driver doesnt work (Intel IPML device)
Tripredacus replied to netbookdelgob's topic in Windows Vista
So when you are booted into the Vista OS, I: is your boot volume? Also... do you have an explicit need for this device to function properly? This is one of the things I leave flagged in my home PCs.
