I'm in the midst of unattending my families new laptops that came with Home Premium. They both need updating. I have used my Ultimate xml as a base & it has worked well except for admin account status & firstlogon.cmd won't play? Is this typical of HP or is there something I may be missing?? Any pointers appreciated guys...
It's worth a try you could write to your Computer manufacturer & request a copy of Windows on dvd, some will come to the party. Especially if you mention you are very pleased with their product & will most likely purchase again in the near future.
I do agree something that was not overcome since Vistas inception I'm now to believe. Like McoreD I have used every combination available in the passes to get the Au to work. Always falls back to en-US.
Please be patient man sometimes these posts don't get attention for days..& we ain't all UA experts. The amount of variables in the wsim is endless & you can accomplish most you need to. Try going through the help files whilst verifying your xml in the wsim. Good luck with it.
I use most of those tweaks also & work UA no problem. Maybe instead installing through your seperate batch file "Run.cmd" maybe install it directly by the "FirstLogonCommands" eg: I just sfx my reg file to silently install & no problems.
Using Martin's guide with a Gold ed or sp1 makes no difference Vista still works unattended the same including installing your apps. Heck I'm using the same xml as did from Vistas existence. As far as Vista not being popular in unattended that's not true...anything you think of unattended can be done in Vista. You need to do more searching & much testing. All the best with it.
Totally agree with Kel above don't mess with other peoples suspect crap on the net. Search around here or driverpack.net for a great list of ready drivers suitable for Vista wim integration.
No problem man, were all looking for ways to simplify our Vista UA installs, you can slim down the SoftwareDistribution folder in your mounted wim to the necessary files only. All the best with it.
