  1. Are you using XP Home in vmware? If so, that is the problem. Windows XP Home Edition does not have the drivers for the SCSI of vmware. So create a new VM now, and choose IDE interface (for HDD).
  2. No, its not possible. A switch is nothing but a branching of the code execution. You need the source code and re-compile it. Or else, if you did try to fiddle with the binaries and managed to add a new function, the resulting EXE won't execute due to being corrupted.
  3. @AfterDawn arrr.... Keep in mind that a huge linux supporter is here! (hint: me) And its not bad at all - nor is Microsoft. And its a mis-conception that linux lacks games - any number of perfectly good 3D games exist. And yes, they are as big/good as those for win32 platform. I've been on linux personally and commercially since years, and its been a great decision from any angle. And I don't hate MS, you know that as well, from my presence at msfn. Point is, linux is very good and so is windows. Anyone that hates the other, or forces you to convert to use the other, needs a re-look at his own strategy. Introducing you to use something new is fine, forcing you to NOT use what you are comfortable with, is not. And this sort of approach where crowds of anti-Microsoft people jump on you and force you to move simply because they hate MS, it absolutely is not right. That bothersome phenomenon (of attacking you), is called militant open source evangelism (of which that forum is an example). I'll let this quote say it best: Now who wants to post the above in microsuck? If you're looking to get back at them, you have a cool way already (the above quote). lolI must admit this post is sensible: WARNING: If you're not 18, don't read the above chunks of quotes. It was posted purely for informative purposes, and is not meant to offend anyone. Please do not close this topic, for its getting perfectly sane posts and is not out of control.
  4. well, price not a concern. You can do it yourself. The solution has been posted above. Just search around this forum here, and a bit of googling, and before 10 hours have passed, you'll have it done. Its easy - and if you think your skill-level is not up to this task, you'll be surprised to discover that you under-estimated yourself.
  5. Awwww...... *stomps around in rage* Can't the release cycle at least be once a month! I've hardly finished downloading and integrating into my uA, when the next version peeps out.
  6. Exactly. I agree. And they seem to, as well - since most of those posting in that thread are saying basically the same as what you said (that they will not join here just to troll around and expound their philosophy). But still, I'll be left wondering which of the new members who join after today and rant, are going to be from Microsuck. Funny thing is........ I found them for us, and they found us at approximately the same time. Also, hate is a great leveller. Take a look at their home page. Designed just like Microsoft's. And these are the ones hating them?
  7. All the switches you want to use (such as /chained, /qb, etc.) and all the MSI properties you want to use (such as TRANSFORMS=filename.MST, PRODKEY=XXXXXX, etc.) are normally specified on the command-line. I recommend using the setup.ini for the purpose. Go into: OfficeInstaller\FILES\SETUP\setup.ini And customize it according to the commented documentation there. You will see more info in setup.htm about available switches. The advantage of customizing setup.ini, is that it becomes taken as your default install settings. So that the next time you run setup.exe, you need no switches at all! It will become silent by default.
  8. wpa.bak is of no purpose. One more thing you might like to consider, is getting THEIR oembios.bin (from I386). Because if it indeed is an OEM edition as you thought, then there's a chance of it having system-locked activation (which relies on bios). Using their oemebios.bin would allow them to install and activate as easily as the original OEM disk.
  9. Please use no inappropriate words while posting. Anyone posting is only trying to help, and as such is not doing so to benefit themselves - its concern for others. If its your right to get immediate answers, paid helpdesks might be better.... Stay within boundaries please.
  10. You have done a lot of evil deeds in your previous incarnation. Karma j/k
  11. OH..... MY.... GOD!!!!11 7zip SFX ? No Cancel button ? heck, no extraction dialog box even ? A hearty pat on the back for you Spartacus! This is great news. Combined with its compression ratio, this works wonders for uA!
  12. Yzöwl, the key won't be accepted. What kind of CD it behaves as (OEM/Retail/VLK), and what key it accepts, is dictated by the setupp.ini in I386. Ask them to just send that file alone - your CD will effectively become theirs after that. Of course, this does not touch activation - if they were needing activation, they still will need it even now. But if their OEM has customized the activation to enable it to check the BIOS and get automatically activated, then you will miss those customizations, if so you should get their original CD itself.
  13. The solution is you are missing the CD ident files - look here. That is all it is.... the order of install, has no relevance to this error. Is it fine now?
  14. It uses IEXPRESS probably. Try running the iexpress command at a CMD prompt.
  15. * topic moved
  16. robert_neville, what you want to do, is to remove the excess entries, but still keep it for later use if you need it, right? I'd say first backup the relevant registry key/value from a batch-file. Example: reg export HKCR\.mp3 %systemdrive%\backups\filename.regTake a look at the details of the command by running this at a command-prompt: reg export /? Once its backed up, you can easily delete it. Look into this topic for more info on unattended deletion of reg keys/values - link.
  17. Does microsoft suck for you? You hate them no end? take a look - Microsuck Found this place to be incredibly interesting and fun. Simply because of all their assumptions built on the base that microsoft simply HAS to be evil no matter what they do. This place will make you see darkness in day light! Post your comments
  18. More RAM? Well, thing to remember is Server OSes necessarily will take more time to boot that desktops, because that's how they are made - to load lot of things at startup, and require reboot only once in a month or more. If you do want to stick to it, then disable as many services as possible.
  19. You can do this even without WPI, use the "$OEM$\$Progs\" folder tree. Whatever is in $Progs will get copied to the Program Files folder automatically.
  20. Well, there's many different angles to it. So you'd have to decide if you want to know about it from the point of view of being a newbie user, or a power user, or a multimedia-centric user, as an office employee, as a programmer, as a gamer, as an administrator, as a network-manager, as a hacker, as a cracker, as a teacher, as a web-centric person, UserInterface designer, etc. To get a start, you could get the books by MS Press: Windows XP Bible Windows XP Inside-Out Another very good book: Windows XP for Dummies Then you have the Help system within Windows XP. Then of course, your everyday usage comes.... you just happen to simply absorb all that experience - there's no way it could be learnt/taught (if at all it was TAUGHT, it would be an exercise in academic futility). And a large part of the learning process happens if you have experience with products prior to the current one - so in discovering the differences you learn more. After all this to build your base, for more advanced knowledge, you have MSFN.org And of course the certification programmes at the higher end..... Only thing I don't understand is, why would you specifically want to know about XP, when its pretty much outdated (as far as cutting-edge goes) having been around since 4 years! The new biggie on the horizon is Longhorn. (codename of the release)
  21. HAHA! okay okay.... Now its understood Was originally scratching my head to understand it, simply because not all Michael's have Jackson as their last name!
  22. shush you ! Now he's going to say Michael is the nephew of someone.... Did you HAVE to ask that? j/k On a more serious note, yes I was thinking that too! Who's Michael, and why does he have our dear GM here so crazy about him....
  23. ahemm.... There was *NO* poll before! Only now its been added. Anyways, everybody just vote in the poll please. The purpose is to see if there is anybody at all in msfn who DOESN'T have a Gmail account! (i.e., to see how many votes are accumulated for "no")
  24. Right. Also, I guess directX wouldn't even need need to be mentioned unless it was for the fact that this guide is not for XP alone. The guide has been made for all versions!
  25. You can apply VBS thru command-line (batch files). cscript //B //NoLogo %systemdrive%\Install\folder\filename.vbs
