Its not really about being "that bad" or something... The main reason is running Exchange ends up hammering your fixed-device storage (HDD) and network bandwidth (because of the optional graphical web access interface). Above that, its nature of being GUI managed makes it less suitable for remote management over a shell. And then of course, comes business realities. You wouldn't invest in Exchange unless you had a minimum number of users to service (the base minimum is like 25 users, and could go all the way up to many thousands of users). So you can easily imagine the load so many users put it through (email between themselves, mails sent out, received, etc.). Of course, if as an individual you "got hold" of it somewhere and just want to check out what its all about on your home network, it would be quite fast without needing to dedicate a server to it (and also do your normal work on the same machine!). Exchange is one of the easier mail servers to setup and maintain. Of course, here it is assumed that you are familiar with relevant concepts - a beginner might find it incredibly complex. What would one have to do to set up there own mail server for personal use, is something outside the scope of this topic (it can be easy, or you might run into several issues along the way). The best way is either read up about it (E-books!) or get an instructor/trainer to bring you up-to-speed with it. Though microsoft's products are notoriously easy to use, there DOES exist a difference between desktop and server products. As in, you can wander around the desktop environment and learn things. It doesn't work that way with servers, most of all if you need to experiment on production machines.

where's the post with treg snapshot app!?
prathapml replied to ceez's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
RegSnap is too bulky for nothing! Regshot is the preferred way. You were looking for the post with the download? click here -
Nois3, are you sure that is the question? I'm asking because while such a tweak does exist, its useless since the above files are compressed long before you could apply the regtweak. The folder is rendered compressible through some shell command that only windows knows (or maybe "fsutil"). Anyways, the reg tweak you want can be found in the registry tweaks topic (in "unattended windows" forum).

This topic will be merged with the thread linked above. brittosa, please do atleast read the STICKIES in a forum before creating a new thread.

I think i know the reason of those activation "done but not done" hangups - is it an original, unhacked, licensed disk is all I'm gonna say. Winlogon.exe problems? Again its cause makes itself obvious.... We all know what its modified for. Stay legit, and you'll see zero issues. And I shouldn't say this, but if a warez copy HAS to be used for some reason, ensuring that it was not a half-baked method used by the source, helps. You find too many kiddies who don't know what they are doing, but claim to have hacked XP - do not peruse their services, the above will result. Discussion of cracks/activation-workarounds is inappropriate, so keep within rules though. -
No "special" resources. Its just heavy, that's all. So if you were to have Exchange 2000 on a machine that was previously running fine with 256 MB of memory, you will find you need to double the memory to prevent it going down to its knees. Also, its common practice to not use a machine running Exchange server for anything else.

The PDF is coming soon. It can be download and read offline, or printed.

Open up the cabinet, and look in. There's a data cable coming from a header on your MoBo to the port. There _might_ also be another cable coming into it - and this one is the power cable.Anyways as said above, also try taking your devices to a friend's place, and if it doesn't work there either, its gone.

u can also add Setting.reg to the archive, winrar will automatically import the setting after first run. Oh, and how is that done?

Not even once in the last two-and-a-half years. And SP2 for windows XP did not cause ANY problem at all. Been on the beta testers, for a year and so was quite ready for it. Got it before it was released to public, and treated it as a TOTALLY new OS - so did not upgrade and instead did a full clean roll-out to all machines. All working fine and better than before. -
Well, you downloaded an upgraded .BIN from your MoBo maker's site to change the version of your BIOS (flash upgrading), right? The same site/page should have an older .BIN as well. Ensure its for your your MoBo model before applying that one. As far as I know, Asus and MSI will have BIOSes for every board they ever sold. And they keep giving monthly upgrades. They keep the v1.0 of the BIOS (which is what the product originally ships with) as well available in their download sections. So if yours is one of those manufacturers, its very easy. Other companies, I'm not sure of their policies. Hey drew is it possible that the power supply coming into (or going onwards out) the firewire is affected in some way? Could he just replace the molex (power) cables or something?

@jrf2027 sure, np. Here is a link to what you should want - Office 2k3 install for non-VLK. Hmm.... and how to edit MSI, I don't know to explain! Its just like using regedit (a bit _better_ one though ). You have tables with the specified property name and value beside it. You will instantly know how to do it. Oh, and there is no single editor for MSIs. A google search will throw up many of them. Download whichever seems easy to use for you. Hoping this helps.... Oh, and please post back on how it works out.

Amazing.... Search turned up so many results for ultraiso! Did you try searching before posting? This is what you need: uiso7_me.exe /VERYSILENT /SP-Note the capitalization of the switches - its required, otherwise it won't take effect.

Permanent autoarrange in Start Menu!
prathapml replied to PryGuy's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It could be simplified a bit (the last two steps become one, I mean). After this step, execute this command through cmdlines.txt or any batch-file that you run from it:REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce /V AutoOrder /D "autoorder.cmd" /f -
This has been on front page since: And windows XP is not the correct section to post news....

Have you tried re-packaging it using InstallRite?
-
Where I live, Maxtor gives the best value for money. (i.e., good performance at a decent price) But as said above, their failure rate seems quite high. But the saving grace is that any new hardware component will normally show any problems within the first week it is bought - after that (*touch wood*) it runs quite fine for many years.
-
What does that mean!As for your original question, you cannot shrink it because making the facility of making an Admin-Install Point is not available in it. You need to edit the MSI to remove the limitation, and then you can shrink it. Customizing it, is of course do-able no matter which edition you have. Just use your Office Resource Kit, that's all. And silently installing it is just a matter of using the MSI switches (/QB, /QN, etc.).
-
"Resources" financially speaking, and in terms of hardware as well. Yes, that indeed is the best on the windows platform.
-
Yes, and its easily done.Just find out what kind of requests it makes for the next disk - if its based on absence of file, then you can merge them all into one DVD with no problem. If its based on identifying CDs (on volume-name,etc.) then its difficult and you have to do what robchurch says. To test what kind of requests it makes, just copy contents of all disks to a single folder on your HDD. If some files refuse to copy, make an ISO image of the disk and then extract the files from it. So now that its all in one place, try installing it and running it - if it all works fine, just burn that folder as a DVD (with the folder being treated as root of the DVD). Do tell us how it goes!

I've always seen this kind of thing happen in the holidays (just when you have no school to worry about, and can give full attention to your computing). As for your present pc problem, have you tried downgrading your BIOS? I remember I flash upgraded once, and lost my firewire. Discovered later that it was a beta BIOS, so went back to the old one, and all was fine.

Sata Driver Necessary with XP=SP2?
prathapml replied to mr_tin's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Welcome mr_tin! As far as what I've seen, most SATA controllers work fine straightaway without needing any extra drivers. That's because they are compatible with Parallel ATA at the driver-level. You need specifically the SATA drivers to be installed only if its not already recognised properly. As for RAID, almost on every machine with a RAID controller, I've needed to install the RAID drivers - without that it just did not work. But you say you do not want RAID, so you don't need to install the drivers for that. So in conclusion, all seems fine with your install. What I'd recommend though, is to install your chipset's drivers. The SATA driver doesn't give any extra functionality, but the having the chipset drivers installed will improve the performance of your system. Yes, you can install your chipset drivers right no without needing a full XP install. Are you already having SP2 merged into your XP disk, or are you installing SP2 separately? If you have it merged into your disk, then that's good. Have fun!
