  1. Dobby, I will bless you (or kiss you if you want ) if you can find some tweak to cascade MyComputer.Been trying to do it since ages.... Until then, you can use my alternative - 1. Right-click taskbar >> Add Toolbar >> New Toolbar >> (select) MyComputer 2. Now unlock the taskbar 3. Drag out the newly created toolbar to desktop. 4. Within that toolbar (which is now seen on desktop) right-click in empty space and (View >> Large icons). 5. Now take your cursor to bottom-right of this toolbar, and resize it (horizontally AND vertically) to make it as small as possible. 6. So now you can see a drop-down menu which you can click your way through. 7. Don't forget to navigate cursor back to taskbar and lock it. That's all. There's your cascaded MyComputer. You can do this for any folder/virtualFolder. What it does is to force it to display all contents since its not viewable otherwise. This just hapopens to give us the desired effect, so we're happy. Post back on this please.
  2. Okay, I give up. I won't wait for anyone else to send in contributions. And this time the compilation gets credited to me. Check back in a few hours. EDIT: This one's gonna take some time....
  3. Having used an IPB forum first, it was quite surprising to see that phpBB did not have a way to print the topic (to save it all at once). Then found this place had the mod to enable that - print-topic mod. The story carried on, with a "mod this" and "mod that" for such basic features which I'd grown used to. So it just started to feel pretty inadequate. The average load it put on the server gave an excuse to move out.... In a corporate environment, the cost of buying the forum software you use does not matter quite as much as having needed features easily accessible, low downtime and fast official support (to the extent of getting fixes custom-made for you). Unlike official support sites, user-supported forums tend to snap at you if you request a quality fix quickly (understandable, since they are doing it on a casual basis). Oh well, to quickly put together a small forum that exists for a non-essential purpose, phpBB still fits fine. Very few open-source options are available in the forum area and this one is the best of the lot. As far as v3 of it goes, checking out area51 is not very encouraging.... it hardly looks like competition to the big ones. I hope it will improve to the point where it can be on par with the best - at that point, I'd be ready to make a contribution to the project as well. At its current pace, its going to play catch up for years yet.
  4. the OEMswitch must have got set to yes. Set it back to no, or remove that value from your winnt.sif to fix this.
  5. If you aren't going to re-install after an nLiting of your XP disk, then just remove windows messenger from Control Panel >> Add/Remove Components.
  6. But well, a commercial site has far more resources at its command and can recover quicker. Also, being that the only motivation to improve the product is peer-recognition, and reputation, the development pace can go at turbo speed with wonderful capabilities being provided, but presently that's not happening. Invision has 5x more features and is good in the intangibles part as well (server load, general appearance, the modding community, and so on...). Having said that, I accept that a single incident can't be isolated and pointed out, but it just happened to have happened at the same time this was being discussed, lol. No offense to anyone, of course. Its only an objective discussion, individuals need not feel bad.
  7. May I ask what's the difference between this one and gape's ? If there is a difference, then how does one stack up to the other?
  8. @ All: enjoy the beauty of phpBB: www.phpbb.com Creating Communities Last updated: 8th February 2005, 02:08 GMT At present www.phpbb.com is offline due to a group of politically motivated hackers wishing to ..... .....we don't own a server cluster, just a server..... psoTFX - phpBB GroupThey couldn't protect themselves, and no redundancy has even been thought of by them. There's this boy who while walking bashes himself straight into trees on the road. You'd give the keys to your car..... GREAT!!!!!! Also, one more factor to consider is that while using a free board is easily done by anybody, purchasing the software your board uses goes a long way in re-assuring your members that you are for real (i.e., you won't suddenly fold up one day). It confirms the trust your members place in you, that you are concerned about protecting the time you took to make your posts.
  9. amp_man, Let's again go over what you basically want... You have a few OEM cds of windows XP, which you want to install on OEM pcs (with customizations probably). Now as far as oembios.bin goes, you need to think of it only when you have OEM discs that enable you to not activate at all! (in these cases, the activation is associated to the system bios) If you do have such discs for each PC, then just make a common unattending procedure, and make a multi-boot CD/DVD (so that each individual install option contains a different oembios and each will get activate properly). If you don't have such a thing (i.e., you find that you still need to enter your key and activate) then don't even worry about the oembios.bin method - since it does not make any difference to you no matter which oembios you use. umm..... re-reading the above, I don't seem to have made it clear to understand... Now does the above explain it properly? Any questions?
  10. No way. Last I heard, he wanted a heaven of a home. (not a hell of it with fixing his PC )BTW, if any of you has read "The Road Ahead" by Bill, you'd have already read a lot about his home.
  11. *shudders in fright* --shaking head sadly--
  12. You just PRINT your document/file from any program, that's all. And choose your printer to be PDFcreator (it comes in the list of installed printers). Then it will ask you where to save the PDF file or you can give it a pre-set folder to save all PDFs with incrementing numbers. Quite nice and simple - and only 8 MB install, unbeatable for size saving on a uA disc.
  13. What are you saying? You mean "the (British) Queen's English, for the most part". Come to India, and you'll see english being used in the most wholesome way possible. There is a joke round here, that the Englishmen came and brought their language here, and left it behind! (referring to how even people in english-speaking countries don't speak the language correctly and add lot of modifications and slang, while we kept the language in its original form and enhanced it to make it suitable for all purposes) For confirmation, just see how many Indian words keep entering the dictionary every year, lol.
  14. Point taken... Was only waiting so long to allow the poster a chance to edit it himself. But that hasn't happened - so had to do it myself.
  15. bmn, .MIDI files might be what you are looking for then. http://www.mididb.com/ Also, I found this program on sourceforge to be very good for this purpose - coolplayer.sourceforge.net It is only 1 EXE, so perfectly suited for uA installs. coolplayer %systemdrive%\install\temp\mysong.mp3
  16. bmn, its made to be lighter than firefox. And after that it depends on your usage patterns, about whether its better or not. It is based on mozilla code anyway - so just give it a try. Thanks for the heads-up mraeryceos.
  17. haha, yeah! That's an interesting thought I did not get.
  18. Yes! The key here is to see that there is no alternative left for it. That is, if it finds that your WINNTBBU.DLL is a modified file, but WINNTBBU.DL_ (or probably even WINNTBBA.DLL) exists in their original state, it will use one of the original files. And well, you always knew this - if you edit a file with name abc, edit *ALL* files named abc so that its all on an equal footing (same as what happens with the bootlogo in I386 and in SP2.cab being different). Hey, I see you have edited your previous posts in this topic!
  19. Hey Aero Ximian, The winrar SFX is not a bad idea in itself, but you probably know of its short-coming. During a uA install from batch-files, you will find that rarSFX'es with embedded setup switches mess up the install. It will extract the SFX, then start the setup in a new process - so this way the "start /wait" is satisfied and it proceeds to next line, whereas the setup is not yet completed.
  20. Astalavista, shell32.dll is not in mars.... atleast not just yet. And if you are placing the modified file on the CD, there's no need to disable WFP here. That's because WFP can only replace your "bad" file with the one on the CD - now since your CD itself is the one with the "bad" modified file, it will work fine without disabling protection. Mis-information is not correct.
  21. Even in the best of times, its a bad idea to boot into windows mode and partition the disk. Always do it in DOS mode or with boot disks of the partition tools. If its just creating partitions in allocated space that you want, then disk management (part of windows itself) should suffice. For more complex operations (short of resizing), the diskpart tool is usable from command-line.
  22. use whatever! Just move out of IE, and no more of those things You could try Mozilla, could try Opera, could try lynx....
  23. Tried it just now. Its wonderful! I think this is all most people would ever require.
  24. Oh, but that's winrar. And this is 7zip. And yes, its interesting for a lot of people, so you can't say that its old news for them. Anyways, it would be nice to know a few more tips that you know. Considering you knew this one since a lot of time.
  25. where's the link? Also, good that you revealed your AV. Now there's gotta be SOME way to find out which are the viruses that slipped through NOD32, so that I can send them to you in a malicious package. j/k
