@GeneralMandible Happy to hear that. @SiMoNsAyS I'd rather not repeat myself with the content that's on the official home-page of the Ximian project. I'm always ready to share info which is not available elsewhere.

Office 2k/XP/2k3 shrinker That utility isn't beta/testing anymore (as the title seems to suggest). I'd recommend have a good read of the entire thread before asking further questions about the Office shrinker. BTW, let me tell you that my install source of word+excel 2003 (with SP1 slip-streamed) is just 110 MB. So, it is very good for the purpose you describe.

Well, as far as I am concerned, just the fact that I need to wait another 24 hours for the US English version of SP2 is hard to digest! 24 HOURS !!!! Come on, that's a VERY LONG TIME.

Ctrl+Alt+Del is so deeply embedded into the psyche of windows, that it is not possible to disable it, or change its functionality. WAIT !!!!! (forget my comment above) try running "gpedit.msc" from <Start >> Run>, and see if there is any function to disable the (above) magic key-combination. Then, you could create a hidden shortcut to TaskManager in the QuickLaunch, and give it a shortcut key of <Ctrl+Alt+any_alpha_numeric_key>.

Just use the winamp JS as a starting point, and customize it for your app; mazin has a very good tutorial in that same winamp thread. Now, that is something to consider! I would say try any other possible method first, and if all else fails, the JS is always there for you. Use your's itself, LOL (haven't seen any other as well-explained as yours).

That is a frightening thought indeed, if you were investing in buying/selling diamonds. Also, the facts posted by Tokugawapants above are interesting, I should say!

How do you change user's local time?
prathapml replied to Tokugawapants's topic in Site & Forum Issues
Fee fi fo fum, now is like a good time to hum. Your (land of the rising sun) timezone's 3-and-a-half hours ahead of mine. -
Ah yes. #remembrance strikes# Welcome to MSFN, and continue having a good time on the forums. BTW, in a year or two, "speciality=longhorn" would be an extremely attractive skill to have; and those of us who don't already have that skill will need to learn.

Well, this post is more of a FYI: Everest home edition is nothing but the resulting product of a take-over by Lavalys Consulting Group of the makers of the old (and popular) "AIDA-32" diagnostic utility suite. This has been posted, so that you don't wonder what happened to AIDA, and why there's no new release of it since a long time - because "Everest" is *THE* new version of AIDA itself. But the sad thing in the above seems to be that Everest isn't available as a 16-bit version app (for DOS), unlike how AIDA-16 used to be developed.

It is not necessarily spyware which is slowing your login process (I suppose that is what you are talking about). If it is the login process which is slow, prune your "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName" folder. That is: 1. Put all the files on your desktop into your "My Documents". 2. Change your wallpaper to a lower-res one, or set it to "None". 3. Empty the "Recent" documents folder. 4. Delete the icon-cache in "C:\Documents and Settings\_UserName_\Local Settings\Application Data" to let windows re-build only the needed icons into memory. If it is really the startup process which is slow, try running "msconfig" (from "Start >> Run" ) and remove unnecessary programs from "Startup", then disable unnecessary Services from auto-starting. Then, try clearing out the "C:\Windows\System32\Prefetch\" folder. Then try running regclean (a tool from MS to clean out unnecessary bloat from your registry). The above steps should reduce your startup time to be not more than 30 seconds. Hoping this helps.

Yes, check if that is the case - and whether your default login is to the domain (instead of local machine). If so, only users for whom accounts exist on the DC (domain controller) can login to any machine which is part of that Domain.

It looks like you've solved your question, but still, this answer is there for those with similar queries: Most of the newer games want a directX 8 (or higher) compatible sound-card, and almost all sound-chipsets released after 2002 support it.

OK, there's 2 things to consider here: 1. Windows Movie Maker 2 is only installable on WinXP. 2. WinXP's SP2 is coming out today or tomorrow, and contains the WMM2. So, abandon trying to do anything with the WMM2 stand-alone installer, and slip-stream SP2 into your Windows XP install source. Go here for the "how to slip-stream" guide.

How Longhorn could help end users and businesses
prathapml replied to nighthawk's topic in Windows Vista
end-users and businesses are going to run average Spec'ed machines. MS would do well to remember that and offer the option to run longhorn with low 3D effects. If that realization doesn't happen, longhorn will end up being an OS that few people use, despite being good for them. -
Loghorn Build 4074 installed in Virtual PC 2004?
prathapml replied to fzr400guy's topic in Windows Vista
Yup! VPC2k4 plays fine with longhorn - bcos it emulates very old hardware (for which LH has drivers). Takes around 2.5 hours to install. Enjoy! But it will be just about a week or so before vmware brings out a new driver-set (or new release) to support longhorn in a VM. -
i hope install sp2 until christmas time The good news actually is that those 25 languages will wait! We can get the english, german, japanese editions far earlier (maybe today?). But I feel sad for non-English countries.

Its such a pity that not all the poll options were around since the beginning. I believe there's a fair chance that many of the votes for "single" would have migrated to "Involved" and it would have emerged the largest group.
-
If you are starting winnt.exe from DOS, or starting setup from within windows, it won't work (it will be "ignored"). It will be used only when you boot from the CD.
-
I do suppose this one's gonna be a land-slide poll, and we probably all know in favour of which option as well!

disable CEIP in Office 2003
prathapml replied to prathapml's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
That is true, but I'd like it to happen automatically. -
Win XP Pro crashes 1 second into booting.
prathapml replied to MarkJohnson's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It is limited to 4096 characters.Good to see that your other problems were solved. For your office 2003 question, read the MSFN official guide carefully. To be more specific, read this: http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/office2003_advanced.htm -
Summary- I don't wish to participate in Customer Experience Improvement Program - which registry value controls this? Details- Whenever you start any application which is part of the Office System 2003 suite, the irritating feedback manager can be seen in the system tray. Now, while opening its preferences and disabling it is possible (by hand), how can the same be done in the course of an unattended install?

OEM folder Not copying to Hard Drive
prathapml replied to Rambeaux's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Could you attach your winnt.sif (with the key blanked out)? Most likely, you have missed out the following setting: [Unattended] OemPreinstall=YesThat is the value which governs whether files in $OEM$ get copied to HDD. If you have set it properly, then check if the directory structure is proper. See if your $OEM$ folder is directly in your CD-root (i.e., it should be parallel, not beneath the I386 folder). Also, see if you have a $1 folder within $OEM$ - the $1 folder should have all the files as you want it on your C: drive. Check whether your CD-writing application has changed all the "$" characters into "_" (i.e., under-score) characters. EDIT : gotta be faster. In the few minutes that was taken by me to respond, there were already 2 replies, which said what I was going to! -
LOL, yeah, but I was just drawing attention to the fact that the linked site was not active.
