No, I suppose bartPE can run on a win2kPro OS. But if you were trying to make a winPE using a win2k CD - that is not possible. What I said was, you can only use a XP SP1 (or non-SP/RTM) or Windows Server 2003 CD to make a winPE - but it should be able to *RUN* on a win2k machine.

If you give more details on what exactly you're trying to do, someone might be able to help. BTW, did you even try to search the forums for your question? Here's a link (below) to a thread which might answer your question. The procedure described in that article is pretty much the same for your version of windows/nero. using nero to make bootable windows CD

Is your txtsetup.sif and setupldr.bin unmodified from the original? Also, bartPE maker is not able to make a winPE from XP SP2 install sources. You'll have to use XP SP1 or Windows Server 2003.

Thanx for those tips. Can I use INSTALLDIR="%systemdrive%\DIR\WINAMP_DIR"I ask this because I haven't yet seen any MSI that supports system variables like my example above. I hope this one does........

Is it possible to run .vbs scripts from cmdlines?
prathapml replied to egil's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Not when you are paranoid about security! For example, I run this command: assoc .vbs=txtfileSo the VBscripts are not self-running anymore after that! In that case, run it this way: cscript //B "%your_path%\your_file.vbs" //NoLogo //T:600 -
This is what I've got to say to Alanoll: I hadn't used your MSI until now. But the above screen-shots literally psyched me, and I'm hooked. I suppose I'll use your MSI if it turns out to be smaller than the original installer - still downloading, let me see. EDIT: 4.5 MB? Maybe it could touch down to ~3MB before it would interest me. BTW, the component selection screen could do with a scroller (OfficeXP doesn't scroll the entire window, it only scrolls the "Components" box). I suppose listing the component names is what prevents you from doing that, but I figure it won't be long before your boredom gets the better of you Also, congratulations on such a well-done package.

If I specify an INI to be used, does the setup become automated by implication (or does it only take its values from the INI for a manual setup, like office does from an MST) ? Or do neither of the above happen when you specify an INI? Does it become silenced *ONLY* when I use the /QB switch?

@Phyridean- thanx for that idea, I'll try that now. And if that too doesn't work, I'll try retaining the "Incomplete" folder (in ShareAza) alone, and re-install windows and get back on what happened. @MCT- All the 500+ sources (639 now ) are fluctuating between the status "Active" and "Pending", and I have enough bandwidth - so I don't think they are refusing to upload to me because I'm too slow! ShareAza repeatedly starts enumerating the sources and then stops before it can go ahead to the next stage (downloading from those which are not too busy to upload) - which is different behaviour than it would normally. The sources couldn't all be busy at the same time, could they? And even if they were, I should have started to get a trickle of download after waiting in queue for a whole night! In the ShareAza forums, they say that the Gnutella2 network is normally very fast to start giving a download - but if my sources are from eDonkey2000 peers, I can do nothing but suffer a slow download. (slow would be OK) But here I am with *NO* download. @all Please keep your suggestions coming. I haven't yet been able to solve this **** problem.

Same way as doing CD bootable disc for automated install.

Here's my registry chunk for what you do, and I apply it through cmdlines (not GUIrunonce, as I suggested above): ; Set "Location" to India [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\Geo] "Nation"="113" ; India-specific Regional settings [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International] "iCountry"="1" "iCurrency"="0" "iDate"="1" "iLZero"="1" "iMeasure"="0" "iNegCurr"="0" "iTime"="0" "iTLZero"="0" "Locale"="00000409" "s1159"="AM" "s2359"="PM" "sCountry"="United States" "sCurrency"="Rs." "sDate"="-" "sLanguage"="ENU" "sShortDate"="dd-MMM-yyyy" "sTimeFormat"="h:mm:ss tt" It works for me. Just apply in the same way as you previously did.

What interest is there in Unattended Windows 9X?
prathapml replied to expert01's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Tried your MSBATCH.INF with my product key and it still displays the User Info, EULA, and Product Key pages. I'm thinking there's something else going on here... It will work fine with a retail edition - maybe you have an OEM version (compaq/dell) of it - if so, it won't work without interruptions. -
Try applying the same from GUIrunonce.

500 and more sources, but still..........

Pick up your original server2003 (or even an XP disc will do) CD, and look for the "bootfix.bin" file in I386 folder. Copy over that file to the I386 of your new CD (re-make your ISO with this file, maybe).

I know that with all the experts we have here, many of you people would have seen this problem, so you'd know what to do. Help needed as urgently as possible. Thanking you all in advance for reading this and for your suggestions.

Q: ShareAza has downloaded an important file I need to the extent of 90%, and then stopped! Do you people experience this too? If so, how can I solve this situation? Details: Well, I started download of 3 big files on ShareAza yesterday. Two of them landed on my HD safely. But the 3rd one is protesting. This file which I'm downloading is 675 MB in size, and 610 MB is through - just about 60 MB left. I was previously getting the file merrily at 11 KBps. There are more than 500 sources (according to it), and not one seems to be giving me the download continuation - despite me being connected to 6 hubs (G2,G1,ed2k). All of these sources are on eDonkey (don't know how, since there were some G2 sources also previously, but not now). It is stuck at this position since 5 hours - status is "Active/pending", speed is "0 b/s". Occasionally, it gets off the couch and starts enumerating the sources (saying "12 of 531" sources active, "47 of 531", etc.) - but to no avail, as there's no activity after that. I experienced this before too, but those were 2 or 3 MB downloads, so I could start over - but not this one This is not a pirated software download, so don't let your imagination run wild!

Why not start experimenting by using the info from this wonderful guide, and if that is too difficult for you, using XPCREATE? You can't forever be asking theoretical questions you know! Start doing what you want, and you'll get it right. If you rename your "unattend.txt" to "winnt.sif" and put it in the I386 folder, you can have a fully automated setup, right from the point of booting.
-
My preference is to use the original installer with /s switch, and pskill winamp.exe So, neither will I ever use the MSI, nor am I going to use that scripted method.
-
Exactly! If you have the bootfix.bin file in I386, when booting from that CD setup will ask you to "Press Any Key to boot from CD" - and if you don't press any key for those 3 seconds, your OS on the HDD will boot-up. If you delete that file, setup will directly load without waiting for you to press any key.

All the info you need is right there! http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/office2003_advanced.htm

@Dustinwmew: A suggestion to reduce the install size of your setup, and quicken the installing. Using the below method, the switches you need to use is simplified as well - I saw that you have these apps in your list - J2RE, AdobeReader6, PartitionMagic. All these use "/s /v/qn" switch and can be simplified to use "/QN" (along with any extra properties like REBOOT=suppress, if needed). Here's what you need to do: 1. If the setup executable is a single file, extract it using winrar. 2. Locate the main installer (setup.exe, or ----.msi) and run it with /A switch 3. This will create an Administrative Install Point where you want to, which can be compressed to become smaller than the original setup - use winrar's SFX modules to start install from within the compressed installer. 4. Now, install the apps with just a /QB or /QN switch. To know how to merge the DisKeeper update into the main installer, and also reduce size of the installer, see here.

WinXP setup.exe
prathapml replied to dazkrlauwste's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
No, its not at all possible. That autorun screenshot from a multi-boot DVD that you posted above may look like a modified version of the original XP setup.exe - but it is not, the author has taken a lot of pain to make the customized autorun look as if it was modified from the original autorun. -
I'm not aware of anyway to make only that specific option passive (greyed-out). But you can enable the option you want and then entirely disable the "Options" box for WMP - since, as an Admin you can go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer] in the registry if you want to configure any settings manually. To disable usage of "options" in WMP, run "gpedit.msc" (after logging-in as the user whose settings you want to modify) and browse to: [user Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Windows Media Player >> User Interface]
